Good review my friend. Your enthusiasm for automotive art and performance is very noticeable. You avoided all of the cliches and fake negatives some reviewers of this car feel compelled to clutter their reviews with. Well done.
18:31 I was in the driver seat with you and you got to the freeway much faster than you expected. Seems like there was alot left in the engine for that on ramp. Your “Good Freakin’ God” reaction was priceless.
Tremendous review. Love this car. Are they still as loud as the first gen model as I love the V8 so much. I have a Range Rover SVR with the same engine.
You cannot fold the spoiler down in the US versions. That's only for the European models. All you can do is pop it up and put it down for the cleaning while the car isn't moving, otherwise it is only deployable based on your speed.
I think the cats eye new front end is perfect. From the side the entire vehicle looks lower and sleeker. it is amazing how many people out there cling to the past and criticize improvements on this car. If you have one, hold on to it. I just picked up a 2022 British racing green F Type R convertible with 4100 miles on it for $71000. They are going to go up in value.
Good review! I got a low-mile '16 R (awd) a few months ago. The Meridian sound system is kind of underwhelming tbh. There's not much room for a big sub so bass will likely never really thump, but even the mids and highs are meh compared to other stock systems in newer high-end vehicles. Maybe I got a lemon in that dept -- I don't know. The ride can be quite jarring on bumpy roads, but like you said, it's more about the outlandish performance w/ this vehicle than luxury and comfort, and that's the truth. As you accurately point you, you've got next-to-no room to store anything in your sitting area (this is my first two seater, and it's _very_ limiting on many fronts, esp. if you have any kids). I've got the old infotainment system which is definitely dated and slow to respond in the older models. Not much can describe going WOT in dynamic mode. The AWD keeps it firmly planted to the ground making what should be a sketchy experience feel completely safe and in control. The base-level brakes will get hot and squishy under continued aggressive accel. & braking; the rotors probably should have been slotted and drilled for the base R model, but oh well. If you've got the money go brand new, but if you're on a budget you can find something a few years older w/ low miles (~20k) for about half the price w/ roughly the same performance and features. They're rare in the U.S. and quite the sleeper to the untrained eye and those who have never encountered one.
There is a large subwoofer speaker behind each seat. Modern sport cars typically have larger rims with a smaller wheel height. The F-type R comes with 20" factory wheel rims. The lower priced models come standard with 19" that is less jarring. Miss the days of the 15" wheels with 6" tread height! Much more comfy.
Doubt you got a lemon in regards to the radio. I’ve read that the base system in earlier cars is super underwhelming like you are suggesting, and the upgraded Meridian surround option on those earlier cars was not much better. From what I’ve read, however, there have been improvements by Jaguar to the base Meridian sound system in the new generation car…and possibly the surround version as well…That is what jag forums are saying…
@@dlj1285 That sounds reasonable and is likely the case. I'm still deciding whether to keep it. Since that comment I made, we had an unexpected addition to our family; he'll be 3 months old in a few days. Now we have two children, and a two-seater vehicle is even tougher to justify. Just finding time to drive it before the battery goes dead is problematic. If I do somehow find the time and the will to keep it, I'll definitely invest in some aftermarket speakers, maybe a stealth box for a little more thump. Nothing crazy. Thanks for the feedback!

@@dlj1285 Good points. Our first kid is nine. We thought we were done having kids (I'm 45), otherwise I never would have pulled the trigger on the R. We inherited a bit of money after my mother-in-law passed after a horrific 4 month downward medical spiral that traumatized our family. We were still going to have a significant money buffer after the purchase (outright, since it was used and out of warranty), so I bought something naughty and totally self-indulgent. Further complicating things, I have a '00 WS6 M6 already occupying our 3rd garage bay, my baby from my early twenties, so I'm kind of hoarding the garage with daddy's toys. They're both collectibles in their own rights. The F-body ended in 2002, Pontiac ended in 2009 or so. It's low miles for how old it is (85k), I could sell it for close to what I paid for it in 2001. I have many many years and miles of history and memories with the WS6. If we had a bigger garage, I could maybe justify keeping both. The R is superior in every way (just ran 12.1 @ 118mph at the track, bone stock). I know they're also the end of an era. I have a tough choice to make. When that decision is made my poor truck can finally reclaim its position in our garage after spending over a year outside in the elements. I work from home so I struggle to drive all of the vehicles enough just to keep the battery charged. I suppose not having the opportunity to drive them is an argument against keeping them as well. It really kind of is "hoarding" at this point, or is that nature of car collecting?
Get the previous model R with the 550hp (2014 to 2017, not 2018 and 2019) with full torque at 2000rpm instead of 3500rpm (new model). Also, the new f-type R (and the previous 2018-2019 models) are exhaust-pop-nerfed by Jag to avoid replacing the 2 catalytic banks and the oxygen sensors (eventually damaged by the pops). I have both catalytic banks replaced already. Just make sure you won't let Jaguar service install the last updates (if they even ask you. Those updates exhaust nerf the previous F-types, like they did with the new model, its a big story, just trust me). They nerfed my 2016 without asking me and we ended up in court because they didn't want to reset the software updates back to previous state (loud pops, the reason I bought it). PST me if anyone needs more info on the software update version to avoid for 2014-2017 models...
In some forums, F Type owners point out which fuse to remove to restore the 2021 and later F Type exhaust note to the earlier levels. I haven't tried that .
@@williamfraser5593 If I remember correctly its the #19 for 2018+. Works in my 2023 model. This will keep the exhaust open even below 3500rpm and will improve the overall exhaust sound. But the pops and crackles are gone regardless, in newer models, software-wise. In older models, like my previous 2016, they're doing it by installing software updates without asking the owners and then refuse to revert it, like I explained above. The way it works: Pops and crackles will eventually destroy both your catalytic converters and your oxygen sensors. Jaguar doesn't want to keep paying for those under warrantee. They will follow their 'repair' guide by installing a software update first. This is when they do the exhaust nerf, by adjusting the gas flow and the oxygen sensors bit by bit until the engine light won't appear (this is off the record info by a nice Jaguar mechanic) so the crackles will stop and won't destroy the new installed convertors and ox.sensors.

@@WTFCRLT1 Thank you! I am having trouble deciding on the exterior and interior color combinations. I really like British Racing Green with Black/Tan interior but I also like Eiger Gray exterior with the exact same interior as in your video. Can I get your opinion on what would look better? BRG would look really good but there is stigma associated with green color in cars being unlucky (I drive a BRG car now and I can attest to that lol). Another option that I am considering is Silicon Silver with Black/Tan interior. It is so hard to chose on a car that is so perfect in every way.
I don’t blame you haha that Eiger Gray was beautiful plus a good tune for the P450 will have it keeping up with an R for over $20k less! The tune might effect the warranty tho so if that’s the route you plan on taking, the R might make more sense since it gets a very solid warranty plus I believe 4 or 5 years of complimentary maintenance which I wouldn’t personally wanna mess around with since both cars are still very pricey.
Right, for $1200 including an easy 2 hr DIY crank pulley change (6 bolts very accessible on wheel ramps) you can conservatively dyno 100 more hp. For $250 more you can add VAPs new diamond textured smaller SC pulley to add another 30 hp. That’s real HP, through more torque starting at 1 RPM, not a useless redline increase.
