I've never been a fan of "revised" texts as it takes away from the signifance of the times the story was made in. Its a complete revision of not only a popular literary work but history itself

Absolutely true which is why these are a fascinating and completely unique case to study. Since the syndicate behind the books decided to do this for every book in their main continuing series it basically remolded the original texts into new forms and no one had any clue unless they had read the originals.

Apparently this is the only cover of the classic Hardy Boys books not done by Rudy Nappi. I always forget that since John Leone does a good job of capturing his style.

      What about Floor? And Short-Wave?

Nice! Glad you gave a bit of a personal viewpoint of the book near the end. Was hoping to see more of that in these videos.
Looking forward to Secret Warning as it apparently features The Sleuth a bunch. Don't know why I didn't get the RT as a youth since I love that boat and it's right on the cover lol.

@@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader So I take it when you do your top 10 HB books vid none of his will appear? 😁
Hey at least a few of his revised texts get really good ratings on goodreads (Twisted Claw & Disappearing Floor for example)

@@JCH2768 ha ha you don’t say?
I doubt if any of the Button books are on any fans top list.
I’ve been trying to figure out how to do a favorites or ranking video for fun after I finish all 58.

@@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader Maybe two lists? An OT list after #38 and a RT list after #58.
Admittedly I'd love to see a countdown from 58th to 1st lol. A near impossible task I'm sure.

YJK Audiobooks is putting all the Hardy Boys books out on RUclips. I listened to a couple of their Indiana Jones audiobooks and they were good. I thought about listening to them, but my youngest son is turning twelve, so maybe I'll start buying them for us to read.

Hello! I'm a big fan of your channel and these original vs. revised text comparison videos. Inspired by your videos, I'm trying to read the original and revised texts of the earlier books. What would he recommend me to read first - the original text of a particular book first followed by its revised text, or the revised text first followed by its original text? I grew up reading the revised texts, but it has been over a decade since I last read these.
I'm looking forward to more of your comparison videos! Hope you do the same for the Nancy Drew ones as well.

Thank you! I tried several ways at first but have found it’s best to just read the original and then the revised text to see which elements and sometimes what exact text was duplicated.
But if you haven’t read them for years maybe try the revised text first to refresh your memory.

The thing is though, the revisions themselves are a part of History. And they began well over half a century ago. Hardy boys and Nancy Drew probably would have disappeared a long time ago if it hadn't been for the revisions.

I'm sure you're likely aware that, similar to what happened with the Hardy Boys books, the original Fleming 007 novels are now being subjected to latter-day "revision" so as not to "offend" modern-day snowflakes. Actually, I'm ok with this practice provided that the original texts CONTINUE TO REMAIN EASILY AVAILABLE by those who prefer them to the new versions. Are you listening George Lucas???? 😆😆

Instead of changing things because society is so easily butt hurt now, just put a disclaimer in stating the difference in time periods at the time, DC and MARVEL comics does that when they release collected editions of comics from the 30s to 70s BUT THEY DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING for example if you're reading a Captain America or a Superman from the WWII era everything is printed as it was originally, but I guess that would be too easy

Do Frank and Joe still sleep in the nude at the hotel in the revised edition? Because all the multiple instances of skinny dipping and occasional chasing suspects naked in the early volumes was another thing the revisions did away with.
