i see a lot of long video essays about tv shows where they just summarize each episode without adding much analysis or opinion, so i really like that you talked about how each episode plays a role in the larger character dynamics and overall story. it stayed interesting the whole way through and never became pointless summary like sooooooo many video essays ive watched. i also loved the mini segments sprinkled in very fun

Great video! I’ve always been uncomfortable with how much I like the season finale. It might just be the fantastic track from Ludwig Goransson playing lol. I wish they hadn’t retroactively made Jeff THAT old though

This was a really great video, and even though I did disagree with you on a few things, I also agreed with you on others. Now here are some notes about the season.
-Season 1 is my favorite season, because I feel like it's the one that best showcases our seven main characters as a unit. Throughout this season, in almost every episode, they feel like a genuine group of friends who make each other's lives better and inspire each other to learn and grow, and even though you may find some of their side plots boring, I still get enjoyment out of them because the cast give genuine performances every time. One of my personal favorite moments is the subplot in Communication Studies, and it's one I hardly see any people talk about. Just the fact that Annie and Shirley were willing to defend Troy and Pierce's honor, and they in turn, defended theirs was just so heartwarming to see. But once we get well into season two, the wholesome unit feel the group has starts to slowly wither away, which will be most prevalent in season three, which houses my LEAST favorite episode of the show.
-I too do not ship Jeff and Annie or any of the Greendale 7 with each other, because as I said, I prefer them as a single platonic unit.
-I don't hate Slater as much as you do, but I agree she was handled poorly. I like the idea of her being a girl that gets Jeff to confront his fear of commitment, and that scene where he has to formally introduce her to his study group friends was another one of my favorite scenes, but the way she broke up with him and tried to get him back was awful. Like you said, they only Jeff and Slater be a couple for 2 or 1 1/2 episodes and do nothing with her after the finale. It's not even that they're not a couple anymore that bugs me, it's that they cut Slater out before she had anytime to form relationships with the other characters. Slater was a good window into how Jeff and his friends look to an outsider and her best moments are when she's reacting to the weirdness that the Greendale Seven and their friendship exhibit. I would have loved to see more episodes with her interacting with the other members of Jeff's study group, getting to see what each of them is like, and what the seven of them are like together. How would she be with Annie? Or Pierce? Or Troy? Or Abed? We'll never know, because the show never took time to develop her as a member of the cast.
-I also agree with you that the season finale was disappointing and unsatisfying, mainly for the reasons I went over in this comment.
But other than that, this was a great video on my favorite season of my favorite sitcom. Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to see the other installments. 👍

I actually do agree with you in just about everything you say in here; s1 really is the season where they feel like a nice group of friends who better each other- that's mostly why i "dislike" any subplot i mention, because usually those lack any growth or change by the end of it (tho i do actually enjoy most of the subplots, but some of them i feel don't measure up to the great quality of the show in general). And i agree that Slater as an idea is fantastic, it shows how much the study group has had an impact on Jeff, and how he can move on from like having actual friends to being in a committed relationship. Something I NEVER thought about was how slater related to the other characters, bc the show frames her as only like "jeff's girlfriend" that i never even thought that she didn't have any sort of ANYTHING with the other members. This makes me dislike her even more thank youuuuuu
But for sure this season is like fanTASTIC and honestly better than i remembered it being, so i honestly cannot say which is my fav rn. on initial watch i remember i think s2 was my fav but i guess i will seeeeee
