- It was time to bring in the harvest they were calling for a frost and we made apple cider on the Homestead with our Heirloom New England apple trees. We were all surprised how much cider we made with the number of apples we had.

Awesome video
Proud Momma!
Nice seeing your parents Al hope you make another Video with them soon.
Your son is extremely talented & more than qualified in so many skills. You raised a wonderful man.
Wonderful to see the family having so much fun whilst working. I agree with Kathy, Olivia is a very blessed girl.
Watching the older stuff...Olivia was so young!!!!
Just watched this again, today. What a blast from the past, but fun to see everyone working together and having fun with the harvest!
The apple press is awesome. A nice harvest day on the farm. ♥️👍
Hey Grandma and Grandpa Lumnah!
Those are the most happy, active, excited pigs I've ever seen! :)
So interest in to compare this early farm to what you have today. Yet the pigs and chickens are still so well cared for regardless. That cider looks good!
What a happy video!
Oh my goodness! I bet that apple juice was amazing. Looks like fun with the family.
Green fried tomatoes yum, yum!!! bonus seed for corn.
I like your arch over your garden bed with the cattle panels. Very cool.
Thanks, it is great for trellis plants up
Having a good old time making cider on the homestead !!!! Great video 👍 your parents are great 🙏
They are lovely! Great family day!
Oh boy apple cider press! brings back memories. My family had one just like that one.
I was commenting about making cider on one of your videos a few weeks ago. This just popped up today. Your parents were sure having fun Al. I can't believe how much Olivia has grown! And a lot of farm progress in 1 year.
Good to see your parents Al
When I saw the crusher and press when you you were ckeaning out rhe shed I thought what fun it would be for all. I did some this and last year and used the mash after on my blueberry patch, wow what a crop of berries I had last spring. Nice family good times thanks for sharing.
yes the roots are to be left in the ground when the plant is ready to be removed cut them off instead of pulling them out. The roots also give space for next years roots to grow into and provide food for next plants. And besides its messy with shaking them roots all over, don't do it!You can also keep the left over mature beans and corn as seed for next year.
Wonderful videos! So enjoy your way of life.😊👏
Boy those are some happy pigs
Those green tomatoes are very good sliced and fried
the worm was a tomato hornworm. You should have put it in a jar, it will turn into a cyrsalis soon, pretty cool to watch. So now what are you going to do with 5 gal of cider? If you have jugs to put it in, you can boil it and save it in jugs.
Thats a good idea!
Bring things like this back please.
Jenna love you so much you are so funny Al you are a very lucky man you have a smoken wife and a cutie pie of a daughter love y'all muches
Olivia is a Giant now in 2019. The goats and pigs eat the apples now. Gina has the most fun operating equipment.
My Grandma used to take her trusty fiskers and she'd cut those green tomato horn worms right in. Two then she'd laugh anticipating watching the hens chasing each other around with them.
I think this is your best video
Put the cider straight from the press in small platic bottles, leave a Little air for expansion and put it in the freezer. I use square bottles to maximize space
It is either a tomato or Tabaco horn worm. Both do the same thing but they look a little different
Just watching some old videos today. I saw you fed the animals the green tomatoes. Years ago we used to wrap each in a piece of newspaper and store them in a drawer in a cool dark place and check from time to time until they ripened. You will have tomatoes well into the fall depending on how many green tomatoes you have. Love your videos!!
Also enjoyed seeing your parents helping harvest and making cider.
You have a really nice family brother

"I like that sound"
Tomato Horn Worm. Great chicken or duck treat.
We love fried green tomatoes. Just wash them, slice them about half an inch thick. mix flower with a little corn meal, add salt & pepper and fry. They are much sweeter than you would think.
In Canada we call them Hornworms or Tomato Hornworms.
Your parents seen very kind happy amazing people.
I am wondering why you didn't eat the green pepers or tomatoes left on the plants. They are good green to and if you would have put the tomato plant upside down in the ogok or basement they would have ripened on the plant.
Ps tomatoes and potatoes are nightshade plants mabey its better not to give them to livestock next year.
Kind regards rose. Loved the Apple cider pressing well it's still juice for now it needs to ferment to make cider. But that was 1 sink full are you planning on making more this year since you can have 20 of those 5 gallon buckets full with all the apples you get. And you could add sugar to make even more cider or vinegar with the scraps.
Yummy, fresh apple cider!!! How I miss going to a nearby orchard owned by a classmate’s family in upstate NY!
We had ONE horn worm. It taught us alot. It EATS SO MUCH WATCH IT CUTE
Wow I’ve been watching a long time but never seen this one
Great Video guys! It was nice to see your mom and dad Al as they both seem like really nice people.
I'm gathering your Dad is the one who schooled you in the world of carpentry. I'm sure their not perfect, but no one is and I consider it a blessing that you still have them with you. Very enjoyable to watch and hope you include them in the future. Take care!
I can smell the apples over here
Nice Press
My favorite channel
Thanks!
Looks yummy😚😋
Nice to see your guests, too
Tomato horn. We had them on the tomato plants my dad used to grow and he would give them to us to play with 🙈 I was like 5 years old 😂
Hope you fermented the apple juice with yeast to make alcoholic cider. We used to do that with our windfall apples. Great for celebrating at Christmas xx
Those animals are eating well now.
Just can it up apple juice for a year.!!
Loved seeing the family working together you guys are great God bless
that is a tomato horn worm if you see a horn worm with white eggs on its back them are wasp eggs and they will kill the worm when the eggs hatch
Thank you AL for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden bye 👋 bye 👋 👨👩👧👸👕👓🐩🐈🐖🐔🐓🐥🌱🏡🎥👍👍👍
What a great family activity, my mouth was watering just thinking about the wonderful cider.
SO beautiful to see family outside together. Thank you for so much beauty and inspiration! Blessed :)
Horn worm!
Bet those chicken had the green apple squirts after eating those.
This was great, I miss having seasons.
I think I would miss the seasons too.
Awesome! Home grown decorations. 🌽
That's it'll turn to butterfly
RUclips is showing this video is less than a year ago but I can't get over the fact of how tiny Olivia looks. She must have had a growth spurt the last year. Must be all that organic food. So Al how about a little follow-up on the apple cider, how long did it last. And what was the Shelf life.

RUclips lists this video a year old.
I don't remember seeing it until now.
Also it was nice to see the lady that had you cooking a meal once a week as a young man...
Horn worms, we called them tobacco worms you would find them on tobacco plants a lot.
I know it's an older video but I love thus one. Reminds me of my child hood. Cider, Apple butter, Apple pies form the sour apples, preserves. We made all sorts of stuff. Thanks for sharing this one.
Looks like a very productive and fun day! Thanks for sharing.
While it is a good idea to leave old roots in the ground for compost and soil structure, I heard that with out a green plant with a root in the ground the microbs die off in about two weeks. Best to plant winter rye which will survive under the snow and keep the soil food web alive till you plant next spring.
116th day of the growing season. So is that the end of the growing season since you are harvesting everything?
Not until we harvest the pigs and chickens they are growing great still! :)
This popped up on my feed. I'm new to your channel so I loved seeing this older video and seeing your parents. Will they be back this fall?
Chickens would love that worm.
Al, you never said how the potatoes did? I was waiting all summer to see how that would work out
tomorrows video! :)
Lumnah Acres 😀 YAY
It a tomato horn worm
It turns into a beautiful moth. I pick them off my tomatoes and put them on the wild grape vines.
Is that Ken that helped with your new roof?😮
Put your green tomatoes in a paper grocery bag in a cool dry place and they will ripen gradually a few at a time. You will have delicious tomatoes into January or even later.
Thanks! Fingers crossed!
Should have fed your apple pulp to the pigs save putting apple sauce on it later lol
Great video. I bet that cider is awesome. Well done. Thank you for sharing.
Hello grandma and grandpa Lumnah! Greetings from The Netherlands! :)
Applause applause! again the auto cc picks up the sound of the Apple grinder as applause and i agree! Lol
Woww! Ma's wearing a Tri-County sweatshirt! TC is the vocational school in our area! Massachusetts!
That the area I grew up in
It is a small world isn't it?! and now youre in Northern NH... I just recently discovered your channel and think your homestead is beautiful. You make great, informative videos. I'd like to buy land eventually and start my homestead. Keep the videos coming! :)
and happy homesteading!!
Man, that cider looks delish ....... I can almost smell/taste it from here ~8^)
chop and drop can also help your soil for next year too..looks like everybody had a great time! thanks for the video!
Hello old sock
Spread the apple pulp over the garden area and cover with leaves and grass to overwinter. You'll have good healthy soil come planting time next spring.
Luna moth aka Tomato Horn Worm. Look up it's life cycle.. Very interesting. Impossibly improbable..
We called them tomato worms. Just GOOGLED them, They called them Tobaco Hornworms
A caterpillar, it turns into a butterfly
So glad I had this video pop up! We have 3 of the same apple trees on the new property and I was wondering if they could be pressed and or cooked. I heard your dad mention reds while you were tasting, did you add some red apples in for taste or was I misunderstanding?
What a great cider press! A bit jealous ...😉
We would save the worms in a can until done with the garden for the time and then feed them to the chickens. They go crazy for worms.
One of the best so far more of the pigs please.
the black rot on the bottoms of your toms add wood ash will stop it
Nice to see ALL the Family getting stuck in. :-)

We are building a Tiny House (off grid) plus homesteading on 1 acre.
If you ever have time I would love you to visit and feel free to give us advise. Thank you Lumnah Acres!
I guess I started watching right after your harvest.
Do you still make cider , or were you just trying it for a one time?
Jo Jo in VT 💕😊
make hard cider
when we pressed apples at Old Sturbridge Village, after we'd gotten all o the juice from a batch o apples, we'd drill 2-3 inch holes in the apple mass (we were using a hundred pounds or so of apples at a time). and pour in water, and then let it set overnight. The next morning we'd press it again, and get a weaker juice. if you let that sit for a couple of months, you get a light hard cider, and eventually, cider vinegar . I suspect that if ye just dumped your spent pulp in a bucket and poured water over it and let it sit overnight, it'd give ye the same result. It's kind of funny: I live in central Sweden now, and yesterday (Oct 4) we spent the day clearing out the garden because of frost forecasts too.. When do ye generally expext your last frosts in spring?
May 23 is our last frost date. How about yours?
Well, we just moved inhere on this Aug 1, so I'm not really sure, but in the last place we lived, it didn't surprise anyone if we had a killing frost in the second week of June. We're hoping here will be closer to your date. I've been really happy to see your tomatoes and corn, because people here all keep saying ' you can't grow tomatoes here without a greenhouse' (and most of them have never even *tried* to grow sweet corn), and I'm thinking that your success with both in what seems like a pretty similar climate could be a cause for hope for success here. Fingers crossed!
