CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Kruger (Sharlto Copley) arrives with a violent intent and even more violent weaponry, taking on Julio (Diego Luna) and Max (Matt Damon).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In a future in which the privileged reside on an Earth-orbiting space station named Elysium and the less fortunate live on the surface of the blighted, overpopulated planet below, one man dares to defy the strict anti-immigration laws that separate the two disparate worlds in order to save all of mankind in this visceral sci-fi action thriller from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp. The year is 2154, and the division between social classes has grown wider than ever before. As the rich enjoy a life of luxury and access to cutting-edge medical technology on Elysium, the rest of the human race contend with poverty, crime, and disease on the surface of planet Earth. Meanwhile, hard-line immigration laws ensure that only those who have been explicitly approved will ever set foot on the elusive paradise in the stars. 36-year-old Max (Matt Damon) lives in an L.A. shantytown and earns his living by working on an Armadyne assembly line. He's had a rough past, but he's struggling to stay on the right side of the law when he realizes that his only hope for survival after being exposed to deadly radiation is to reach Elysium. Should Max succeed, he will strike a major blow for equality in the eyes of his fellow surface dwellers; should he fail, it will mean certain death. In his quest to become the hero who can restore the balance between the rich and the poor, however, Max must first do battle with Elysium's hawkish Secretary of Defense Delacourt (Jodie Foster), who has devoted her entire career to maintaining that division, and whose key enforcer Kruger (Sharlto Copley) is notorious for his brutal tactics in driving out illegals. With the fates of millions hanging in the balance, Max sets his sights on Elysium and never looks back. Alice Braga, Diego Luna, William Fichtner, and Faran Tahir co-star.

I like how Activision hired the same artist to make the designs in Infinite Warfare. Aaron Beck is his name, his concept work are dope with robotics.
Damn that's good to know
dude i always thought this felt like a dumb video game made into a movie and you just confirmed it.
Advanced warfare(?)
I thought it was advanced warfare
DUDE I ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY WERE THE SAME STYLE SADLY MY GAME DIDN'T WORK BUT DAMN I WANT TO BUY IT AGAIN
Ak-2047, still more wood than metal.
hell yeah brother
But still every bit nostalgic.
And tape
*AK-2147

Sharlto Copley is such a great actor. After watching him in District 9, I was very surprised to see him play such a different character in this movie.
Murdoc from a-Team
Never thought he could play a spec ops/mercenary bad guy. Actors who have wide talents tend to do well.
Surely an option for DC villain
And then you notice he also played chappie DAMN
district 9 elysium and chappie all made by the same director and he plays in all 3
I love how Kruger is automatically censored in surveillance footage.
I noticed that too
Why is that relevant?
@@gebys4559 covert ops
@@gebys4559 Because crooked Elysium uses him for its dirty work. The surveilance system is Elysium's own, the Earthers are just hacked into it so that they can use it too. The system identifies Kruger as an Elysium operative, so it auto-censors him in the footage.
@@gebys4559 Pretty straight-forward commentary on the use of mercenaries, sorry I meant private military companies, and how their crimes are censored.
I like that modified AK
The few good parts of this movie was that gun
@@edwardanderson9396 and the chemrail is another
You can buy that kit for a airsoft gun
Check out sru precision
You mean the ak auto shotgun?
@@derusher2979 not a shotgun I think that the concept was an AK with retrofitted ballistic computer and programmable airburst ammunition turning it into a sortve portable autocannon
now I know where advance warfare got the suits 😂😂
Infinite warfare got that ak
Andrés Valverde and edge of tomorrow got their suits from All you need is kill, except the suits in that look nothing like what’s in the movie
I'm pretty sure it's all based on concepts of prototype military powered armor.
@@plmokm33 Military, industrial, and medical powered exoskeleton prototypes all exist and are all basically the same thing as this movie's (except they have robotic hand bits because you can't safely exert mechanized strength against your flesh and bone hand).
Technically real world applications got this from Ironman 1.
Probably one of the best modern cyberpunk movies in my opinion. I don’t know why people hate it so much. It is a bit cheesy and contrived, but it’s also fun to watch.
Guarentee that's just the critics, Most people loved it.
This movie was very fun and creative. Great watch! Wouldn't mind seeing it again TBH
Blomkamp himself has said that his script and story for Elysium was half-baked.
Probably because District 9 set such a high bar
Loved it . Probably the closest we’re ever get to a Halo movie.
Kruger has one of the best lines ever in any movie: "I don't believe in committing violent acts in front of kids. Close your eyes, honey."
“She’s seeek? She’s seeek?”😂😂
That modified AK looks a lot like the Flatline from titanfall 2 lol
Oku Roku just that the mag is in the front of the gun
I was thinking the same thing
I think this movie have inspired that. Read some trivia somewhere that Blisk from Titanfall, was loosely based/inspired by Kruger from this movie
@@NappaCarl kugen blisk also has that south african accent and look. And also the shield on 2:42 looks like a knockdown shield from apex legends lol
@@NappaCarl Very possible, Kubin Blisk's appearance is said to be based off of a South African mercenary named Mike Rousseau. During the Mozambican War of Independence in an African airport he engaged an enemy combatant around a corner at close range. Despite two shots to the chest the threat continued advancing until a third shot to the neck ended the fight. Mike's experience lead Jeff Cooper (famous firearms instructor) to develop the _Mozambique Drill_ two shots to the chest followed by one to the head. The Mozambique handgun from Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends is a reference to this and fires in a similar spread pattern.
Glad to see the AK is still in use even after 100 years
@Andrés Valverde I think AK will still be a viable options as long as bullets are in use since there's millions of them still around then.
Well, Lee Enfields are still used sometimes even today in certain countries. A rifle design from the late 19th century. So I guess AKs will stick around for a while as well.
Both Ak and Ar systems (Of course, i like the Ak more) are close to perfection, cheap, modular, good at close to mid-long range, not even the caliber need to be the same (since the new aks use 5.45x39 instead of the old but gold 7.62x39)
That "Up Yours" gesture to the car never fails to make me chuckle.
Lol perfectly timed with it flying into the air!!
CLOSE YOUR FOOKIN EYES!!!
What I love about Blomkamp's firefights is they're actually engaging. It's not just a barrage of random firing and shaking cameras, it conveys the power of the weapons and the brutal malice in a gunfight
2:42 I love the attention to detail here, the writers didn't make the sheer power of the explosive rounds any less evident than in the earlier scene where they tore the security bot to pieces. Kruger is using a barrier of solid energy that manages to cover his entire body, yet those explosive bullets are being fired at him POINT BLANK,so they still manage to knock him off his feet and give him a slight concussion. Edit: This movie was so underrated!
Sir Raven dude. Yes. That shield is so cool cuz it's so believable. It feels very NOT Hollywood
Ahwits Are you telling me that you don't think full-body energy shields will be possible in the distant future?
Hell nah. I'm saying if they were (or when they are), I'd imagine them working like this instead of a perfect polished sphere that bounces off bullets like ping pong balls (Hollywoody) cuz yes, 7.62x39 round ain't no joke. Especially when they're explosive. They really sell how demanding that would be to stop.
@@Ahwits I totally misunderstood what you were saying,my mistake. As for your reply,I couldn't have said it better myself, and couldn't agree with you more!
@@Ahwits I just immediately assumed that you were being sarcastic with the "it feels very NOT Hollywood" part. Again,I apologize.
The actor who plays Kruger is an amazing one. He can play any role he wants, love this guy!
Damn, so that's what happened to Wikus after District 9?
Lol district 9 was amazing
A lot of shit. Turns out the one side effect of rehumanizacion is insanity
Let's cut some cake!
he tooned intooo a fockin prawn man!!
Yeah then he lost his physical body so he became Chappie
ak47 will rule the battlefield for another 500 years
mikeythebold tv With explosive shield penetrating bullets.
With soo many of them around the world, easy design and a classic fire arm it wouldnt surprise me if it was still in use even 1000 years later
People are trading in reliability for ergonomics which the AK has none. I give it less than a hundred years before they dissappear. And the only aks left will be in the hands of middle eastern cave men
that would mean the ak47 rules the battlefield now... which it definitely doesn't lol
Katanas too
Kruger deserves his own movie
Hell yeah
Hell yeah
Hail yeah
Hell yeah
Exactly, his like Adam Smasher in Cyberpunk
Such an underrated villain. I was honestly blown away by Kruger and his deranged band of South African contractors. I was rooting for them the whole time.
Never heard anyone give him a low rating. Not sure what you're talking about.
Eric Gotte we need to have a kruger movie
This is one of those movies where the bad guys really did nothing wrong. Same thing with Fury Road.
There is a disturbing trend nowadays where people say "(insert-villain-here) did nothing wrong". Darth Vader, Solidus Snake, Griffith, Adolf Hitler, Sauron, etc...it doesn't matter.
Kruger did nothing wrong. Nothing is stoping these poorer classes from coming together and making their own high class communities on earth.
2:40 dude looks like he has a pc on his back.
Kruger is probably one of my top 5 favorite antagonists of all time.
Can I guess your number one?
Max should have finished Kruger, save himself alot of hassle later
The station should have just nuked earth, save themselves a lot of hassle later.
That ruins the point of the movie, Kruger should be fought at boss stage, just like the other movies and video games.
@@thisisaname5589 perfect reply 😂
Plot stuff homie
I mean he did take care of kruger.....did you not see the regeneration scene
I just realised that both the main drugs dealers from Narcos and Narcos: Mexico are in this scene.
Zaknafein good catch didn’t see the one from Mexico
@@jdshaffer95 is the one who dies with a katana
I have to say I do enjoy this movie despite it's shortcomings and I always felt Kruger was an effective and memorable villain.
Kruger was the villain? I thought he was the hero, like Agent Smith.
@@OptimisticCynic715 smith isn’t a hero either. He was literally a virus
You can see the old halo landfall short aesthetic here, crazy how his style remains
Nuclearpoweredturtle where
0:25, similar to the overhead shot when following the odsts on recon. Plus all the action is pretty visceral and he has a thing for things or people blowing up like baloons
Yeah, of course District 9 is where it's most noticeable, that was literally a Halo movie before plans changed.
That poor GTR.
Like seriously, what is Hollywoods obsession with destroying cool cars. Why can't they destroy Priuses or Fiat 500s or something?
GTR's are gay
Regardless of what you think of them, no 570 horsepower twin turbo V6 AWD DCT supercar deserves that fate.
Clay And His Cars exactly what I thought :'-(
Boohoo cry more fanboy.
this is more cyberpunk 2077 than cyberpunk 2077
kruger's actor should be in cyberpunk 2077
I have to say this director handles CGI really well.
The upgraded AK rifle was the most iconic relic of the film.
they literally have computer fans on their backs
@Loli4lyf I thought it was cool honestly, reminds me of half life
@@future6537 it makes it look more realistic, for the lack of a better term
It's for the water cooling radiator, or something. I guess? lol
This is a great scene. The effects, the directing, it's all perfect. That's what Neill Blomkamp does great. Someone needs to give him a bigger budget and better script. I enjoyed this movie. I want to see more of this dystopian world.
2:56 instead of mourning for his friend he could've killed Kruger while he was down
Pretty sure he was out of ammo
theonefrancis There was a katana on the floor
@@theloneadventurer9871 That was Krueger katana. NO ONE touches Krueger katana >;(
I think I would definitely go try and help my friend rather than kill a threat.
He was out of Ammo and Kruger still had his shield up.
I keep coming back to this movie because ive always been fascinated with these type of like cyberpunk type movies and i love how they make kinda like a getto futuristic type feeling which i love and also all the tech that all of these movie writers come up with but theres also a pretty small fan base for these types of movies which sucks since people are missing out on some rlly good movies
BEST force field shield scene used in Movie history
each impact u feel it n the deflection from the power of each round...
BEST my only favr force field shield scene
The AK hes using looks like the Volk from Infinite Warfare
Just finished watching this movie and yeah it definitely does look like the Volk from infinite warfare, glad I'm not the only one that noticed it lol.
I just love how he casually walks around the car towards while taking bullet after bullet to the chest 😂
2:23 Bruh I love it too when my sword goes through solid ground
Yeah that was pretty cool the sword is a samurai sword or katana
With that exoskeleton you actually suprised?
Sandy soil with an exo suit. Ya I know I’m 8 months late.
2:12
I'm confused. He stabbed Damon with the knife, decided he needed something bigger, so he threw away the knife and drew his sword?
He wanted to decapitate him with the sword. They enjoy killing their prey is this way. Thrill of the hunt. Same reason why he use these tools instead of a gun.
@@Patrick-cc7qm I suppose that makes sense, but surely he could've just sheathed the knife, no?
the whole point is he wanted his head off bcs Damon had an "Johnny Mnemonic"-type of hardware installed in his head with important data on it!
@@leonefurlan137
he need him alive tho. Same as the CEO guy.
@@Iwanwahid1969 well,he was trying hard to kill him during the whole movie, and clearly wanted to decapitate him,so i think they had a way to extract data with him dead! ceo "sabre" protected the data,it is shown on screen right before he left the office to go to Elysium,in case of dying all gets deleted, and in case of illegal download ot kills the host!
But also, this is nowhere explained 100%,so you could be right as well (maybe it is a plothole)...
P.S.i liked the film a lot,so maybe i'm defending it more than it deserves.
Pablo Escobar at 0:23 and Miguel Felix at 2:26 from Narcos. Crazy how they are in the same scene years before being the stars of the same show.
This just popped up randomly but for God's sake please make a sequel to district 9.

yup
... so specific

Yep. My wife is obsessed with him...
@@werdle92 tell your wife he is a good Rebel.
That slow mo before the Ak goes off is intense
Damn this was a great movie.
I love the sci-fi approach to the ammunition. The people in this world decided to make high-tech ammo to supplement existing weapons alongside the new sophisticated weapons.
I honestly clicked the video just because the the thumbnail had the Volk from IW
The post apocalyptic GTR flipping over, is probably the most painful scene to watch in the entire movie.
Finally out of all the comments, manage to find someone mentioned the gte
Yea so true
physics left the chat
Car guys will cry if they see that GTR being blown up
2:38 best scene
Technobarbarians era, this is the period right before warhammer's empire of men
the almigthy emperah was already planing the unification wars at this period
That happened in around 25,000. Age of Strife.
Also, the Empire of Man is fantasy, The Imperium of man is 40k. (Been 2 years, you probably already know that now).
Id watch a whole movie of Kruger and his team, such a badass
Elysium is one of the greatest movies ever
Nope, it is a B movie at best, but it has some redeeming qualities and Copley as Agent Kruger is definitely one of them.
That ship...... just WOW... the size, the sound, the agressive styling of it!
I don't think I've ever rooted so much for a psycho like Kruger in this movie. Loved his character.

A sci-fi classic.
I like how you can kinda see some halo landfall inspiration here
Love how weapons just applied magnetic rail for more velocity
Kruger is having the time of his life
Robots, exosuits, katana, ak, and Kruger made this film awesome. If cyberpunk2077 ever gets adapted into a tv show or movie we need this director, kruger, and Keanu Reaves.
Feels like a competitive multiplayer deathmatch, where the players insult each other and cheer when someone gets killed. The atmosphere in the movie is WILD!
I love the sound design
This actor, Sharlto Copley (Kruger), could play an excellent Joker
Pablo Escobar is using Dr Mann to fight murdock
I forgot just how good the action in this movie is
I love this style of technology. It is future tech so it works in fancy "smart" ways, but the design of it looks very rugged and mechanical.
Can't believe Kruger is the same actor as this dude in District 9!
He’s also the voice of Chappie
i have a feeling that the shield uses high voltage electrostatics. instantly charging the incoming projectile with a certain polarity, thus repelling the projectile at the same time.
Calm down nerd

“Activate ray shield”
1:04 So that Exo-suit gives Matt Damon superhuman finger strength too.
No. Part of the suit extends to his upper palm. He's pulling with that to deform the metal. Nice try, tho.
Every movie....never actually finish off and for sure kill the bad guy. Just drop the weapon once they fall over for whatever reason and cry in front of your fallen comrade....
Man, Wikus sure went off his chair after becoming human again.

Thats the weapon/equipment you took away from this, as something we should adopt? Not the magic force field? Or the self attaching remote sticky bombs? Or like any of the dozen more impossible technologies...
@@9ninrninr947 you're taking the comment too seriously.. obviously you would send all that . But definitely this 3 round burst hand canon would be a good start
@@thecopperiris Don't mistake my "long-windedness" for emotion. It is just a comment...I'm just saying we have better than that now. Including plenty of rifles with 3 round bursts. Thats what we need, an infantry rifle that essentially fires smart grenades that explode even without contact....
I'd still pick the ChemRail first though. Or the handheld single man surface to..orbit anti-aircraft missle launcher.
