@@AllistairNeil better add "o" in front. Omakatsuke. It's more polite and it's saying you need help and they will help you with anything they were asking you about. Lol
I can attest to this. I lived in Japan with minimal Japanese. I learned to read Hiragana and Katakana which helped me learn some kanji. Reading Japanese was so helpful for me to get around.
"Daijoubu" or "soudesune"😂 or "sou sou sou" while nodding vigorously or "aa soudesuka~" nodding as if understanding (even though not understanding a thing)
I learnt a few extra phrases and some of these made some local folks in Japan smile and chuckle hontouni oishii (本当においしい) - really delicious gochisousamadeshita (ごちそうさまでした) - what a wonderful meal That was my first time in Japan 3 months ago. Now I’m in awe with the 文化 and have been learning 日本語 since. 山中さんがおもしろい動画を作るのが本当に上手だ。
Similar to Joshua, I understand and can read (& figure out) most things, but I can't speak for nuts, never practiced, maybe the standard stuff like ordering, payment etc only. I survived my 15+ Japan trips even to small towns, so...I guess it's alright hehe, most of them are pretty patient when they realize u are gaijin.
I know he's gonna say Daijoubu when he mentioned one word everyone should know and use 😂 because I realize I used it a lot during my last Japan trip lollll yes THEY WORKS ❤❤❤
Pov: You're lost in Japan, and sadly, you don't understand Japanese but remember this short. Kind Stranger: Daijoubu desu ka? Mayowanai desu ka? ("Are you all right? Aren't you lost?") You: Daijiobu~☺️(🥲🥲)
Daijiobu the japanese I am groot 1 simple sentence answered in different tones and context it's the golden sentence that works for almost any situation!
We dont forget to speak with our hands, very expressive 😂😂😂 and eventhough it may seems random (non-native) but somehow all of them fits in the scenario 😂😂😂
When I went to China the tour guide taught us 1 phrase to carry around which is “沒事” (it’s ok/ daijyobu)😂 I guess forgiving and rejecting is universal😂
In Malaysia this one impression & sound is important. "Ah". Aaaah... You understand. Aaaaah...? You don't understand; surprised. Aaah? You're asking Ah! You don't want to do or refuse something. Aah aah aah... You agree. All depend on intonation & length of the sound used.
I used that word on the train once. For some reason the train jolted and the young lady in front of me fell. I caught her and asked "Daijobou?". She was SUUUUUUPER embarassed and moved far away from me. I felt bad....
In Malaysia just say OK lah😉
noooo laaaaa its mean HAAA HAAA😂😂😂
No, it mean, it is okay

Huh?
Nono
OK and ha.Ha~ Ha! Ha? And more based on emotion and the tone😂
Yaya true2😂
SAME! i was in japan for two months and can confirm, you just need daijiobu, arigato and sumimasen to navigate most interactions.
What were you doing there for 2 months? I only got away with one lol
@Timtimzi i traveled all over japan! could've easily been 3/4 months if I didn't have other places to be :') it was a lot of fun
Wahh best nyaa@@tamarlevy5949
Add onegaishimasu for when you do want what's being offered, 😂 otherwise we'll all go thirsty without water like Joshua
Might also want to add Gomen’nasai to that list. People over there are passive aggressive to foreigners. Scary af

Daijobu and Sumimasen were the two phrases I used there the most.
Tell Joshua this "ルイ・ヴィトンのバッグを買うために、クレジットカードをお借りしても大丈夫ですか? "
Joshua : "Daijoubu."
😊
You don't use 'suru' with honorific prefix o-. But kind of good try...
ルイヴィトンのバッグを買うためにクレジットカードは必要だからちょっと貸してくれてもいい?
Daijobu... 😂😂😂😂😂
you telling a Japanese in Japanese is like a banana trying to tell me something in mandarin... cute.... but funny... though cute
