    SAME! i was in japan for two months and can confirm, you just need daijiobu, arigato and sumimasen to navigate most interactions.

    I can attest to this. I lived in Japan with minimal Japanese. I learned to read Hiragana and Katakana which helped me learn some kanji. Reading Japanese was so helpful for me to get around.

    I learnt a few extra phrases and some of these made some local folks in Japan smile and chuckle
    hontouni oishii (本当においしい) - really delicious
    gochisousamadeshita (ごちそうさまでした) - what a wonderful meal
    That was my first time in Japan 3 months ago. Now I’m in awe with the 文化 and have been learning 日本語 since. 山中さんがおもしろい動画を作るのが本当に上手だ。

    Similar to Joshua, I understand and can read (& figure out) most things, but I can't speak for nuts, never practiced, maybe the standard stuff like ordering, payment etc only. I survived my 15+ Japan trips even to small towns, so...I guess it's alright hehe, most of them are pretty patient when they realize u are gaijin.

    Yes, with different tone you can use it to almost every question. But if u use the wrong tone you are screwed. Especially when quarrelling 😂

    When I went to China the tour guide taught us 1 phrase to carry around which is “沒事” (it’s ok/ daijyobu)😂 I guess forgiving and rejecting is universal😂

    I used that word on the train once. For some reason the train jolted and the young lady in front of me fell. I caught her and asked "Daijobou?". She was SUUUUUUPER embarassed and moved far away from me. I felt bad....
