The most inaccurate thing about this video was Toriyama planning ahead
And the fact the Goku superman origin is from dragon ball minus and the original manga origin in Saiyan saga stated he was sent to earth to wipe out the people there
well he planned ahead
but changed few things while creating Dragon ball z
@dennisbeaman958 still doesn't make it not a superman rip off. Just cause he changed the last paragraph a little doesn't mean the entire idea wasn't outsourced. By that definition, Noland is a Goku rip off with the last paragraph changed and not a superman rip off
@pkmasterjt4899 and it wasn't his parents sending Goku off originally either shoot og bardock was more warrior and not as caring till super and minus version and Goku even with the alien change he was raised by a single old man ina Forest and vastly different upbringing the Kent's raised superman with morals gohan not that much because he died very early on and didn't really raise Goku the only thing they have in common with each other in the origin is that both are aliens sent to earth and raised by a old person or old people
Also the fact that Toriyama cared about western audiences.

The funniest part about Goku's origin story being similar to Superman (or Supaman, at least in the Dr. Slump canon) is that James Gunn's _Superman_ literally has the Man of Steel doing the Yamcha pose at the beginning of the trailer.

Fun fact: here in Italy, in our TV adaptation, Raditz, Nappa and Frieza were actually renamed Radish, Napa and Freezer.

In the older version of Dragon Ball (before the US) Piccolo was named Satan Petit Coeur ("small heart", because the piccolo is a small instrument, and "ccolo" sounds like kokoro, a heart in Japanese). Then when the US got Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and made DBZ Kai, the French dub for Kai decided to call him "Piccolo" again, or "Ma junior".
All characters whose name starts with "son" were called "san" because in French it's kind of hard, especially for kids, to say "son goku". "Sangoku" was easier. Became Son again in GT
And Frieza is Freezer

I had no clue about anything about DB but after watching this I understood this unironically can be used as a video to explain lore

i'd always find funny how people overeact and trashtalk about modern dragon ball doing retcons to adjust the story while dragon ball Z was like "yeah, goku and piccolo were always aliens, forget about the mythology from og dragon ball" and then we have the majin buu just, existing, there on the earth for thousands of years because a random GOD from space thought no one would care about it
Huh... Majin Buu arrived on Earth during the seven years timeskip. Babidi brought the egg on Earth somewhere between Cell and the budokai tenkaichi. That's why no one found any spaceship at the time, there wasn't any
@Itsukazutrap No, manga chapter 445, shin tells us about the time when humans were just starting to walk and then Kibito flat out says Bibidi took majin buu's egg to the earth, so majin buu has been there on earth for at least 20k years

If I remember correctly, dbz was never planned out. Toriyama was what you call a pantser. Which is someone who makes everything up as he goes. That's why z had so many plot twists.

Honestly the parallels to Journey to the West stopped after the first arc of the Dragon Ball Hunt. You could maybe argue Tenshinhan character is also inspired from there too but I think that's it. So what does that encapsulate? Like 5% of the whole series from the original manga? Even less if you wanna count GT, Super or Daima.

before Toriyama change his heart and decided to make Dragon Ball into a "kid vs Nazi" and "kid vs green alien",
and "Teenager found out that he is an alien that can transform"
there are only about 2% similarity between "Journey to the west" and Dragon ball,
maybe the name, goku stick, flying nimbus, but
DBZ and DB Super basically have 0% similarity to "Journey to the west"
