Have any commenters noted yet what a breathtaking assault on the senses that Zündapp is? I'll bet it even SMELLS of gorgeousity. Makes me proud to own a Zündapp, even if it's only a '57 Bella R201 scooter.
Back in the 70's, a friend's father had a great collection including a similar aged Zundapp in military green, dressed out in full military outfit. It was shaft drive, the kick start was sideways, a really interesting piece of work. I've not seen one in all the years since. I was completely taken by surprise with this one, absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks a lot John for your comments. Ted had someone else restore it a number of years ago. I will try to find out who it was and post details. Geoff got it running again after a few years. Cheers, Mike
A beautiful thing. I like their two strokes from the seventies too. I wonder what they’d be building if they were still around. Definitely had a style of their own.
An Art-Deco motorcycle! Wow, that is gorgeous. Very different aesthetic to the more, dare I say it, masculine British styling of that era. Now here's another one for you to try and organise a test ride. A short documentary on the bike, features, specs etc would be interesting too.
Thanks a lot. Sadly, Ted has just sold the bike so I won't get to see it go down the road :( I would have loved to have had a ride on it but it happened too soon. Best wishes, Mike
A superb restoration ! Even in 1938 this must have looked very old fashioned, it looks very 1920s but with an elegance, with a rigid frame, and the flat engine it must be a real handful when you give it a rev. Looks very nice.
Wonderful bike---really excellent to see how easy it is to start and what it sounds like.Too bad he sold it. Your motorcycle camaraderie is a definite plus since the shared interest is a palpable and communicable feeling.Thank you
A very beautiful motorcycle and is by far on top of my favorite. Thank you for a great video! Again Santa didn’t deliver what I wanted and can continue watching videos of the K800.
That's a real truth sir....u said it....after brough superior this bike looks awesome and very reliable...that's why German engineering is always one step ahead...Love from INDIA
Looking at the cylinder heads I presume it's a side valve engine? Certainly an easy starter, I dare say those twin sparks help. A bike that oozes quality from every angle.
@@TheMightyGarage: I've just re-read the header and realised it's not a twin spark, it's a 4 cylinder! That's amazing for the period. The only other flat 4 I knew of was the original Honda Goldwing engine.
I remember there were Zundapp 'mopeds' & lightweight two-strokes around in the late 50s early 60s in the UK. I checked on line a little of the history surprised to find; 'After long test drives with the BMW and Zündapp prototypes the Arms Checking Department was convinced that the Zündapp KS 750 was far superior to the BMW R 75. A lot of history, it makes interesting reading. As always thanks for sharing Mike. atb t ..
aThis Zundap k800 are the only 180 degree flat 4 engines ever made. They are not boxer engines they are 180 degree V4 engines, you can see how small the engine is for an 800 look how close the sparkplugs are together. Everybody today will tell you a flat four like this will not work it will have too much vibration.
Just think , if someone built a bike like that now would it sell ? Hell yes id buy one ,really futuristic but retro looking bike , looks wise its amazing .
Dear sirs! This is a typical engine design of Richard Küchen. There was nothing to compare at the times before and after WW II in Germany. But fuel supply and engine cooling didn’t touch him too much if the design was fine. For example have a look to the Victoria Bergmeister. He ordered everything behind his georgeus aerodynamic engine design. So the durability needed always a little attemtion. I am proud to own a Zündapp KS 601 with a TR 500 side car. Also a Küchen designed engine. Not so fancy as its extreme designes but well working and at its time stage of the art. No cooking pots for the the air filters like at the bavarian bikes. And the engine sound beats all the english bikes at this time in my oppion. And with with real 28 Ps ( not Hp!) and 44 Nm on the crank shaft it was the real green elephant on german roads and BMW needed at least 5 to 6 years more to get the same performance. But BMW was supplied by bavarian politians and Zündapp not. The rest is hystorie.
It was just the idle. It was the first time that carburetors were refitted and the bike had started in a long time. It just needed a little fine-tuning, that’s all
Just touch the kick starter and it starts, creating a very hazardous condition, starting willy-nilly when totally unexpected. Something should be done to make the Zundapp harder to start.
A thing of beauty and functionality

What a bike, so smooth. Hope you enjoyed your beer 🍺
Hehe, the beer was excellent too David. Home made brew that resembles straight 50w Oil ;) Best wishes, Mike
Sve najbolje, Mike

Amazing bike and great restoration guys. Congrats!
Waouw, quasiment pas de vibrations !!!
Merci beaucoup. Oui, c'était un beau vélo. Meilleurs voeux, Mike 😉👍
Sehr schön..👌👍🏼
These are beautiful bikes, but I knew a KS750 owner (Aircraft mechanic) who had to go to Germany to get parts for his Zundapp-Gah!-John in Texas
Looking at the cylinder heads I presume it's a side valve engine? Certainly an easy starter, I dare say those twin sparks help. A bike that oozes quality from every angle.
Hi Geoff. Yes, it's a side-valve. Isn't it cool!! Best wishes, Mike

So this bike just set the world record dor most expensive Zundapp. $178,000 i think it was.
Mike that is stunning. The Germans could build a bike eh 😀
Yes, it certainly is a very cool bike! Best wishes Stephen
@@TheMightyGarage Mike no vlog on the Norton project bike this week ? 🤗
Stephen Forrest hehe. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks! Work is getting in the way of all this enjoyment 😜👍👍

Hehe, yes, I think they need to take some notes from the Brits ;) Cheers Jim
Was that engine based on the British ABC by Granville ??
I'm not sure David. That's very interesting. I will need to look that up! Best wishes, Mike
I have two KS600s and a K800. If you're in England and ever want to sell a Zundapp, message me.
What is the price?
Swiss watch on wheels...
Yes, it's such a cool and interesting bike Jim. Best wishes, Mike
Oh great, now I've got find a Zundapp as well as a Vincent and a Norton. You've got to stop posting these videos, I can't afford them.
HAHA! I know, I fall in love with them all too ;) Best wishes, Mike
