  • This video demonstrates how to calculate the sum of squares using Microsoft Excel. The sum of squares between, sum of squares within, and the sum of squares total are calculated independently. The sum of squares total is equal to the sum of the sum of squares between-subjects and the sum of squares within-subjects. The SUMSQ function is explained. The sum of squares between is also referred to as the sum of squares between-groups, sum of squares between-subjects, and the sum of squares treatment. The sum of squares within is also referred to as the sum of square within-groups, sum of squares within-subjects, and sum of square error.

That $ sign is extremely helpful, won't have to rewrite the equation several times now.

Is there any reason why you didn't use the sum of squares function to calculate the 3 "within" boxes?
    Thanks!

Isnt there a way to calculate the between first? I did not get the intuition behind it
