Taking a look at the most recent trade in the NHL that sent Alex DeBrincat from the Ottawa Senators to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for 1st and 4th round draft pick, Dominik Kubalik, and Donovan Sebrango.

It's a win for both teams Im a ottawa fan and I'm okay with this trade I didn't wanna pay the cat more money than our top 3 guys and the cat didn't wanna Stay I respect it we didn't have Norris this season he was injured but hes all good now i think so Norris will replace the cat and I believe Norris is better and also we missed the playoffs by 6 points and we got better we got a good depth in Kubiak we got money to go out and sign a top guy and we got a 1st round pick to trade at the deadline for som1 good our top 4 defense is solid our forwards are super good and our goalie is solid too it's gonna be a hard fight for the playoffs wish Detroit the best of luck yall gonna have a super good 1st line it's gonna be a fun year for hockey hopefully ottawa and Detroit makes the playoffs Goodluck Detroit!!
Definitely a win for Detroit but considering that Ottawa didn't have much leverage they did pretty well all things considered
Exactly my opinion. With Debrincat refusing to sign anywhere except Detroit, Dorions hands were tied. He did well under the circumstances.
@@Whitesquall123 Odd then that Dorion gave up so much to get a guy one year from RFA status with zero indication he'd sign an extension in Ottawa. A #7, #39, and a 2024 3rd not yet used by Chicago. Really short sighted of Dorion...particularly when one considers that while Dorion was shooting himself in the foot with this DeBrincat trade...Yzerman was simultaneously signing Kubalik in free agency after Chicago tried and failed to secure a 2nd round pick for him.
Ottawa didn't 'lose' this trade.... He doesn't want to be there. They got what they could.
Kubalik might play with Stutzle and outscore Debrincat....

So why did Dorion stupidly give up a 7th OA, a 39th, and a 2024 3rd for a guy without securing an extension? That's just poor asset management. It's not as though DeBrincat ever had a say in the trade to Ottawa. ...and Kubalik will likely spend most of his ice time with Shane Pinto and Mathieu Joseph.
this is a win win trade IMO detroit gets someone they really needed who wants to play there and ottawa gets a depth piece, and some potential trade chips. if they can sign tarasenko which i believe is going to happen this trade will def have worked out in ottawas favour

ya Sens are so far ahead its not even close in every aspect except maybe goaltending and like 3rd and 4th line
Even the forwards.. wiiiild Detroit takes. Sens core forwards are so much better/there are more of them and defence is the same thing, zub was hurt half the season and when he came back chabot got hurt then we had chychrun for a few games
@@raccoon2899well see, people keep saying that, but ottawa only finished 6 points ahead of detroit and while ottawa had injuries of course, detroit did as well. They played without bertuzzi the entire season, no vrana at all and detroit sold at the deadline and had half a roster of career AHLers the last month of the season. Thing is on paper looking at lineups, you see ottawa and say of course they are farther ahead but it seems to not be shaking out like they are that far ahead and detroit got a whole lot deeper this offseason and all their high end prospects will be in north america for the 1st time in their farm system this coming season if there are injuries. I will not be shocked if detroit is the wildcard next season.
For the next franchise do the red wings I wanna see what you do for your team

not that I expect this to stay but people saying the Wings fleeced should look at even strength goals between DeBrincat and Kubalik cause they had the same amount the Sens PP which is way better than the Wings carried DeBrincat quite a bit
Debrincat is lightyears better than kubalik
@carloscraigito7384 I wouldn't say light years he's obviously better though even strength they are similar players ADB makes his money on the PP so Detroit is gonna need to have a good 1 this season or it will be another disappointing season for ADB

How did they get fleeced haha? They are getting a first back maybe not as high as one they gave up that's fine and the 2nd and 3rd is equal to kubalik and sebrango wouldn't wanna wait years for the picks to turn into those type of players anywyas
Fleeced? They got more from this than they had to pay for debrincat themselves… not only that but debrincat did not want to live in Canada/Ottawa, not much they can do expect trade him to the best offer available
I'm a huge Red Wings fan, a fan of Yzerman as a player and as a GM, and I love the trade but this is FAR from a "fleece".
I’m super happy as a wings fan about the trade, but the Sens did a very good job of getting a good return for a bad situation. I’m not gonna pretend Yzerman “fleeced” the Sens on this one. Fleece implies it wasn’t a good trade for the other side.
I have had my disagreements with you before, but I’m happy that you just got the hometown kid. As a hawks fan it sucks to see him go to Detroit, but as a Tactix fan I’m happy. Take good care of him up there.

Red wings fan it sucks to see bedard go to Chicago a year after they got exposed for covering up a sexual assault. Seems like the only punishment Chicago got was a generational talent.
@@goblue6351 not a single member of that teams management has been in the league since the investigation. The people responsible were dealt with and may never be allowed to re-enter the league. And, even though they didn’t have anything to do with the cover up, none of the players from that team are in that locker room anymore. Everyone on that team and in that management group had nothing to do with what happened to Kyle. So stop using what happened to Kyle as an excuse for you being upset about them getting Bedard. It’s fucking disgusting. The team and those who were involved have been punished. To say Bedard is seemingly the “punishment” the hawks got for what happened is disgusting as well. Poor kid had nothing to do with it. Stop using Kyle and his story to justify your tears.

Disagree with 1 point. 4 year term was ideal. Wings get his peak 4 years to benefit and evaluate how well he fits. They have enough money afterwards to meet potentially greater contract demands if it works out. Less risk if it doesn't. Better than a 7 year contract that involves more risk

Trade sim would be a bit different if DeBrincat wasn't overrated at 89. Coming off this season he should be an 86 or 87.
I really hope Kubalik will do great in Sens, he is from my hometown and played here and i loved watching him, hopefully he will be successful

I don't get all this "Yzerman fleeced the Sens" talk.
Did Detroit get the best player/win the trade? Yes.
But it was primarily due to Debrincat refusing to sign anywhere else except Detroit. That made it exceptionally easy for Yzerman to conduct a deal. But he gave away 4 pieces to get a player that wasn't going to re-sign and was a UFA at the end of the year. I don't call that a "fleece".

Detroit definitely won that trade. DeBrincat, Larkin, and Raymond will be a deadly first line.

Thats Bad contract should have Been 6,7 or 8 and could have Been a bit More dollars also wings have that cap Space so why not
They have the cap space for now but in 4 years time they’ll need to pay other players like raymond upwards of 8 million as well. So committing to a player like debrincat for 8 years is risky cap wise
