    There’s multiple reasons why our mrt looked empty, it could be because it’s a weekday and most people are at work and our country is one of the densest place in the world so what our father of hdb did was to make the various neighbourhood self sufficient whereby whatever amenities you need (F&B, Supermarket, Malls, schools, health care even work etc) can be found near your neighbourhood or online and you don’t really need to venture into the city area. Hence, we always give others the impression that our city is not as crowded as others, example, Singapore(8332 pax per sq km) is more densely populated than Shanghai (3,900 pax per sq km) and Tokyo (6,158 pax per sq km) but nobody thinks we’re more crowded. 😅

      That’s really nice that people don’t need to go out too much and can find everything in their own neighborhoods 😁👍

    If my kid ever emigrate from Singapore it will be because of the heat and humidity. 🙂
    Singapore is a "working" city like New York. Accommodation is expensive (like in NY) and you would only want to move here if you have a job here and you can pay for a home with that salary. Or you are independently wealthy or have a nest egg that can finance your retirement here. With a city like NY, you move there for employment, pay the high rent to access the high paying jobs, and when you retire, you move to a less expensive neighbourhood like a suburb or even a small rural town. Singapore is a city-state. There are NO suburbs or cheap neighbourhoods to move to.
    So most of the time, we haunt the malls (air-conditioned) or public spaces (e.g. Libraries), and stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day (11 am to 4 pm).
    We come out at night when it's cooler. Only "mad dogs and Englishmen" goes out in the midday sun. Also tourists (covered under the generic "Englishmen")
    We have the Night F1 race, a Night Safari (zoo), itinerant Night Markets ("Pasar Malam"), a Night Festival, and the light shows at Marina Bay Sands, and Gardens by the Bay are held every night. And of course pubs and nightspots.
    Get the hint?
    But most tourists from temperate climes don't make the adjustment, cos back home, the night is to be feared.

      I did the night zoo this trip and had a fantastic time! Totally agree that night is the time to be out and about in Singapore. I just happen to like being out and about in the daytime too haha.

    7:36 You were on a new MRT line at the Marina Bay station (probably during off-peak hours), which is a touristy location. Try taking a ride on the older red or green lines serving Orchard Road and the financial areas such as Raffles Place between 5:30 and 7pm and the carriages will be packed like sardines.

    You are definitely wrong about the mrt and many other things. I am curious: Didn't you know Singapore is a tropical country and it is situated 1 degree north of the equator? So what seasons are you talking about apart from being summer all year long? You just contradicted yourself by saying Singapore is the most expensive city yet commenting that hawker's food is dirt cheap. Lastly, you need to know the Singapore government need to carefully select who they want as new emigrants every year because they are spoiled with choices. But one thing is for sure, though: You will never make the list.

      @@johnchua9387 I’ve been wrong about lots of things in life and we each perceive things differently based on our own experiences. I would say the world is full of contradictions and I prefer to live in one that’s not always black and white, but shades of grey. Just because my experience is different from yours doesn’t make it wrong….just different. I only spend a few days a year in Singapore and typically enjoy myself but I prefer cooler / colder weather because I enjoy being outside often ☺️

    • @johnchua9387
      @johnchua9387 2 месяца назад +1

      @AtHomeAnywhere We all have our differences, opinions, and preferences. That's ok by me. My initial comment is to correct the misinformation that you had about Singapore. I had lived in different places for many years where there were four seasons, but ultimately, I returned to live in my birth place because I just love the atmosphere and the people. The proximity to visiting different South East Asia countries just makes it more interesting. One weekend, I can be in Bali, and next I can hop on the plane and enjoy my night out in Bamgkok, all within 2 hours of travel. Never mind the weather, we can't change that, and neither can we change the size of Singapore. Not everything you perceived in Singapore is in black and white. You are naive for saying that. But again, you are only a tourist who spends a few days around the touristy area of Singapore. So you never experienced the real Singapore, so to speak. The same can be applied to your birth country, democracy is not always democracy as it was meant to be, whether it is the UK, USA, or any European democractic countries. I had lived in the United States where 1st amendment is supposedly accorded to everyone with freedom of speech, but was it? I worked in the local newspaper when I was living in the United States, and I dare say your skin color determined how strong the 1st amendment applies to you. The same goes for the UK and any other European countries. What I want to say is, what you see, it is never what it is unless you have lived in that place long enough to know the truth underneath it.

    • @AtHomeAnywhere

    • @johnchua9387
      @johnchua9387 2 месяца назад

      @ryokolynn6948 Only losers will think this way. If your income is low, don't blame anyone. Blame yourself for not working hard enough to get your dream job. Every Singaporeans are given equal opportunity and platform to improve your living standard regardless of your status on education. Since independence. That has been the quickest and fairest route to get people out living in squatters then and improve on their social standings with a good education. If you decide not to put enough effort into your education, you will definitely end up in the low income bracket that I can guarantee you. The same can be said to any developed countries around the world. It's a hard fact that qualifications are a fundamental stepping stone for any high income job coupled with experience, and you will end up with a good enough income to live comfortably in Singapore. I have personally been through it, and many of my circles of friends are in the same situation, but we all put in enough effort to loft ourselves out of those squatters we lived in when we were young. Nothing is free, and if you are Singaporean, you should know that we imported 90% of our basic needs. Go fogure why it cost what it cost today. As a matter of fact, go lived in another developed country and compare the prices (based on their local earning power and currencies), you will realize that Singapore is not that expensive after all. The only item that is extremely expensive is trying to own a car. Given the small size geographically, it is understandable, and that is why the government put so much effort into our public transportation systems. Housing is relatively affordable as a developed country. Taxes are low enough, and the basic necessities are priced reasonably given that we imported 90% of our food item supplies. So, go do proper research and, if possible, ask any of your foreign friends living in a developed country how they cope with their basic necessities inckuding their income taxes in their country, and you will be surprised.
