You said you are embarrassed by "such bad behaviour by cyclists" yet went on to complain that you "all get a bad rep".
What is really telling about you (and many cyclists) is that you did not express any surprise at "such bad behaviour by cyclists" yet continue to complain when innocent road/footpath/zebra crossing users, understandably, give cyclists a well deserved "bad rep".
Bad cyclists have always been treated mearly as errant pedestrians.
With the increased number of cyclists (I am one), along with their increasingly "bad behaviour", perhaps it is now time to treat all operators of 2 wheeled vehicles (human/electric/motor driven) the same as any other road user.
It will then be safer for pedestrians, other road users and cyclists.

Are you being critical for the sake of criticism or attempting to support dangerous cycling?
Other than that, your comment/question makes no sense.
The commentator said "embarassed to see" thus meaning regular/by many.
If the commentator had said "embarrassed to have seen" it would have meant infrequent/by few.
So no, by trying to be as brief possible ie not adding the word 'see', my point is most certainly not killed.

It still happens now, I remember it happening in the 90s - fat sl*gs would just walk to the edge of the main roads and push the pram out. Nothing changes on some estates as it seems to be bred in to them, so generation after generation of benefit scrounger keeps on doing it. When there is a death or injury they blame everyone else, it is never their fault according to the new Highway Code. The new rules seem to cater for thick stupid people that take seriously dangerous risks and transfer their liability to others. If only someone would take a test case to court and prove it is not a third party responsibility.

@@Sam-mq9cj I agree with that sentiment having known of a woman and her two children getting killed locally when I was a kid while they were cycling, ploughed down by a speeding driver who did not see them in time on a section of road known for drivers speeding! However, sticksman78 is justified when it comes to cyclists who blatantly flout the laws. Cyclists are just as bound by the highway code as any driver. I will defend cyclists who are not doing anything wrong, I used to be one both here in the UK and in a Canadian city for a number of years. I always followed the road laws, stopping at red lights and giving clear signals of my intentions to turn, etc. The bad cyclists out there give us good ones a bad name to such a degree that drivers think they are entitled to have a go at any cyclist for the slightest of reasons!
One example of this was I was being driven home by my brother sometime in 2020 and a cyclist was minding their own business doing nothing wrong when my brother's young son piped up "bloody cyclists" from the back seat and my brother just chuckled at him. I complained that was uncalled for and my brother should not be teaching his kids to be so rude to people. He then had the gall to claim the cyclist should not be on the road because "they do not pay road tax", a common argument that comes from many drivers including, I bet, the creator of this video! So I said "Then you should not be on the road because you are not paying road tax either!" where a short argument ensued about the road tax that was abolished in 1937, 50 years before he was born! The next week during our visit to our mother's he was clearly still fuming about the argument and pulled out his tax forms regarding his car and point to the Vehicle Excise Duty and said "there, I do pay road tax!" I just laughed and said, that's a tax based on the car not the road, it's not the same thing! The road tax was a tax to hold users of the roads responsible for the upkeep of the roads. It was shifted to local councils being responsible as well as the government for roads not covered by local councils. The former being covered today by council taxes and the latter by general taxes, both of which all adults are required to pay! So, adult cyclists are contributing to the upkeep of the roads just as much as drivers and are equally entitled to the use of the roads. That ended the argument right there! lol

@@Sam-mq9cj Yes, the cyclists are the real menace, for one simple reason: Unlike car drivers, they know they can get away with it, as there's very little chance of tracking them as they don't have licence plates (hopefully that will change soon). As a result, the vast majority ride at idiotic speeds on the pavements and zoom through red lights at pedestrian crossings. That can seriously injure or kill. As has happened. I have seen drivers sat at empty crossings with red lights, empty crossroads with red lights, and other pointless red lights. Why? Because they know there may be a camera and they could be tracked and punished for going through it. Cyclists have the privilege of not being concerned about that.

Person who cycles here: For most of the clips, I agree with you. Red light jumpers (especially in London) is very dangerous for a road user (Inc cyclist) to do.
However in regards to cycle paths, especially painted cycle paths, may not always be safe to use for cyclists.
For example in one of the clips, the cycle path is tiny. Cyclists should leave an arms width away from the edge of the road. By leaving an arms width gap, it also encourges drivers to overtake cyclists properly, instead of trying to squeeze through.

I have Zero sympathy for them when they come off or get hurt as they have probably been asking for it. If motorcycles ride in the same way they would get a fine, points and possibly a ban.

Cyclists can ride on cycle lanes or the main carriageway. It is there choice. To be effective a cycle lane needs to be more convenient than the main carriageway but so often councils make them less convenient, longer, not continuous, bumps up and down, no priority over side roads so constantly having to stop and lose momentum. Then they don't maintain them and they get overgrown or they put street furniture in them. If I were a cyclist, I would stick to the main carriageway.

Regarding signalling, the Highway Code lists it as a “you should” rather than a “you must”. While I signal wherever practical, and most good cyclists would, sometimes I don’t as it means taking a hand off one brake (I’d rather keep my hand near my rear (left) brake handle if I can) and also reduces control of the bike as you now only have one hand on the handle bars. I would signal where communication to drivers matters. For example, I intend to turn right off a main road, I want to position right in the lane and stop to wait for an appropriate gap, I do not want people trying to overtake as I do this so I signal right early and clearly and move far enough for traffic to pass on the left once I’m stopped. If I was turning left, a signal doesn’t always communicate anything of use, depending on surrounding traffic, so I might choose to keep hands on the bars. At a roundabout near me, I rarely signal to leave it. Road positioning is enough to get an idea where I’m going and a roundabout is somewhere I really want both brakes quickly usable.

A short time ago I was in the Dept. of Motor Vehicles getting my tags, and I overheard a group of other patrons in there going on and on about how bicyclists are into self-offing (ending their own lives). This kind of talk leads to not feeling any guilt if one of their motor vehicles were to come into contact with a bicyclist, and the bicyclist were hurt, even fatally hurt. "He just did it to himself," they are preparing themselves to say.

I love the one about the woman with her cycling helmet strapped to her handlebars. I worked for the Scottish Ambulance service, frontline, in the northwest of Scotland, quite a remote area. We were called to an incident whereupon a cyclist was found unconscious in the middle of the road near his bike. It looked like a hit and run, his ear was hanging off and we had a police escort to the nearest hospital. All turned out well in the end, he had spent some considerable time in Hospital but recovered well. It turned out that ,as he was cycling downhill ,he hit a stone with his front wheel and went over the handlebars. The best part was.....his cycling helmet was strapped to the back of his saddle. I must admit that when I see people cycling, without a helmet, I smile to myself. I also smile when I see young people riding motor scooters/bikes in shorts, Teeshirts and flip-flops, but that's another story. By the way, I love your channel, you make me laugh.

In traffic, law-abiding, ethical, conscientious people are a rare thing. Civic duty is long buried and civic negligence is ultrafashionable. Posting traffic sign compliance rates online and in the local media - might work. When the public gets a report card of the local risk of serious traffic injuries and fatalities, it might listen. Kids love to behave like dare devils and school grads will soon know someone who is a traffic fatality, or three. Gambling with death is fun for the lawless. Kids need street cred to get underage booze etc for their girlfriends too. Establishing criminal harmony takes - looking "bad." Mistakes you are making with this video:
    1) Cyclists have the right to the whole width of the lane just as any other vehicle on the road. Generally they ride on the left of the lane for personal safety and to allow larger vehicles room to overtake but that is not a legal requirement.
    2) Cyclists are not required to use cycle lanes. They are there to aid cyclists to make their journeys safer but they are not legally bound to use them.
    3) Pedestrians are not legally required to cross at crossings no matter how close they are to the crossings! Sure it's dumb not to use the crossing but it's not a legal requirement. It is your legal responsibility to look out for pedestrians no matter where along the road you are and doubly so when you are close to a crossing, especially zebra crossings.
    4) In the clip where you start of saying there is something wrong with the guy crossing at the junction lights, what has he done wrong? NOTHING! In fact, existing road laws prior to the recent changes allowed pedestrians to do exactly this and made it the responsibility of drivers to look out for pedestrians crossing. Now the law is even more in favour of the pedestrian where you basically now have to treat EVERY junction as if it's a zebra crossing, if there is a pedestrian waiting to cross, you have to stop to allow them to cross!
    5) The woman cross on the 'red man' did so legally. Just as pedestrians do not have to cross at crossings they also can use a request crossing of that sort and cross when they feel safe to do so even if the 'red man' is showing. They are guides for pedestrians, not traffic lights like for vehicles! "You put your hand up to say stop? YOU stop!" No, the vehicles have to stop! IT'S THE LAW! lol
    6) The couple walking to their car in the car park area were inconsiderate but otherwise within their rights. A car park is not a public road and so the rules there differ depending on the owners of the car parks but in general pedestrians have right of way.
I won't even go on through the second half of the video as I am sure the above 6 are plenty enough to show you need to re-read your highway code THOUROUGHLY, especially now there have been major changes! Your attitude displayed in just the first half of the video shows the wrongful attitude the majority of drivers have which is a major concern for the safety of cyclists and pedestrians.
Do not think I am protecting people who are in the wrong. Cyclists who run lights are clearly in the wrong and need their heads examined. As road users they are as much bound by the highway code as drivers of motorized vehicles are.
Also, pedestrians crossing the road without the aid of a pedestrian crossing, including ignoring the status of the crossings (E.G. 'red man' showing), do have a reasonable responsibility to their own safety that can put them at fault if they disregard it and get hurt, like stepping out between parked vehicles without checking for fast moving traffic, but in general the main responsibility is with the drivers of vehicles.

Whilst I don't support rule breaking by anyone, it's worth remembering a couple of things before piling onto cyclists.
Some cyclists creep through red lights, which they shouldn't. But a majority of vehicles speed a lot of the time, and very rarely get caught, if ever. I don't support red light jumping, but the speeding is very definitely much more dangerous and problematic. Another massive problem is tailgating. Driving up the motorway I see lines of cars not sticking to a 2 second rule, but a 0.2 second rule. Extremely dangerous behaviour, and I bet several of these drivers are the first to point the finger at cyclists being a cause of danger on the roads without looking at their own behaviour.
Hence the outrage at the behaviour of pedestrians and cyclists in this video is not in proportion to the problem. Speeding and tailgating two tonne vehicles are massively problematic, cyclists breaking minor rules, not so much, due to the massive difference in potential harm caused. Again, as a cyclist I do support sticking to the highway code and personally do stick to it, but there is lot of misplaced outrage here.

@aberdeenstu1 I agree that cyclists shouldn't just jump red lights etc, I don't agree that it's always particularly dangerous, unlike the high speed problems that can be caused by incompetent driving (not saying all drivers are incompetent, but those that are) It's often about as dangerous as a pedestrian crossing a road. A lot of the cyclists you see here creep, check carefully, then go. I believe it's so unproblematic that in Paris they are trialling allowing cyclists to skip some or a majority of lights. Again, I do believe cyclists should keep to the laws as they stand but police tend to ignore it because of the low danger priority.

The rules of the road are there to protect everyone, not there to be ignored by these sht heads.

In most cases using a cycle lane is more dangerous because impatient drivers use the opportunity to overtake and force the bike to the curb

And that’s part of the problem cyclists can report cars but cars can’t report cyclists, as you can see from the video I have a lot of clips of cyclists doing stuff that they could be reported for but they are unaccountable. And if I had a camera that was pointing to oncoming traffic the amount of car drivers I would get on the phone would be outrageous most don’t even hide it.

I cycle almost every day. I rarely jump red lights, only when it's completely clear and I'm going slow enough to stop if I need to
The reason I occasionally jump a red is because of the drivers behind. I don't feel safe with aggro drivers who will then overtake at unsafe times. Especially if there isn't a cycle box

@@thelondondashcam The bike box was full he was in the only space available for him to wait in for the red light. he didn't design the road. Despite that 5 of them ARE over to the left hand side but somehow they are ALL to blame for the one being on the right. If there are two cars at the lights do you blame the one on the left for what the one on the right does?
There are loads of cyclists cycling perfectly fine in your video. I could just as easily take dashcams of bad driving and say "look at em, drivers driving that's why they are hated"
There are good drivers and bad drivers and good and bad cyclists.

Last week I was travelling along a city street in a car with 2 cyclists. I overtook the cyclists giving plenty of space, but each time we reached a set of lights one of the cyclists placed his bike right in front of my car forcing me to repeat the overtake on each block. Guess I should be glad they stopped at the red light I guess.
Then yesterday waiting for the red right turn arrow to go out, I finally was in a position to go, had to wait for a van from the other direction, made my turn and had to brake sharply for the guy who decided to cross on the red man. He glared at me like I was doing wrong, the dickhead.

Being in the middle of traffic is generally a pretty dangerous spot for cyclists to be- that's why advanced stop lines exist. People don't look behind themselves properly, plus if you're between two cars and get bumped from behind you're smacking a car rather than just falling over. That's why folks filter to the front, to make themselves visible.
Plus if they're catching up at every red light, did the overtaking actually get you anywhere?

    • @iallso1
      @iallso1 2 года назад

@@samal3196 my daily commute is a motorcycle so I'm fully aware of car drivers not being vigilant and larger vehicles having significant blindspots. The situation i mentioned wasn't moving forward to advanced cycle stop lines or boxes, this was moving across from their direction of travel to come to rest directly in front of the car and in the pedestrian crossing.
When I filter to the front of the que on my motorcycle I stay in the gap and don't move across to block the vehicle lane and being a motorcycle I'm unlikely to be holding up traffic once the lights have changed.

@@iallso1 Mm, I do get that you move a lot faster with a motorbike. But in your example, the bikes evidentially weren't holding up traffic- else they wouldn't be able to catch up.
That said, one shouldn't be stopping in pedestrian crossings. But THAT said I think I'm more in support of what keeps folks most safe.

This is what the changes to the Highway Code have caused. Absolute cretins can do what they like - knowing that they can get away with taking NO responsibility for their own actions or safety and the Law will transfer this to drivers and in some cases cyclists that need to be psychic.
By me the women that push their prams in to the road to force traffic to stop are often bright orange with beer bellies and under the influence of drink and drugs. They often learn the hard way it's not what you should do.
