Dude black star has made some GEMS! I wonder if they had a larger variety of “featured artists” during their early days, how big of a company they’d be. I always kinda tuned them out as a metal amp when they first came out. But man their products are great for almost any genre. Rock on my dude.
Hey Oilid and Robert...I have one of these sitting around and not haven't used it recently... was looking for some vids on it and glad I read the comments... does sound muffled at times but of course that's when you're rolling around with the knobs... seems to me you can get it pretty clear sounding. Always wondered what it would sound like without the ISF... but I guess we'll never know! lol 22 volts... the only a problem even with my CS-12 power brick... guess there's no choice but to use that 22v wall wart power supply it comes with.. ugh... is there a viable conversion that doesn't mess it up? Or is there even a point to having this now that I have an HX Stomp... curious if you have an opinion... might just have to do a video on this too find an answer! Rock On! 😎🎸🎹🤘🐦
I have one of these from back in the day (2008ish?) that I just pulled out of storage. It had some fuzzy pots so I had to open it up to clean them out. I noticed an orange LED under the tube which is actually responsible for most of the tubes illumination! Also interesting to note is that mine is a 16v, might be something to do with it being an Irish/UK model? Anyway its still a great pedal. I remember I was torn between the Dist and DistX...I went for the X simply because of the Pure Valve Filth tag! Haha
Yeah, killer pedal! I think I remember seeing that line in GW magazine. Make friends with an electrician and they can set you up with the power supply for anything. + or - 10%!
Good to see this pedal reviewed, I'm waiting on one in an order from an ebay seller in Japan, mine was listed as being modded for a 16V adapter, and the specs on ebay said these pedals require an AC/AC adapter, luckily they're available online for the usual price standard adapters go for. I gotta say, it sounds a bit 'flubby', may work better with an overdrive boost before the pedal, just my thoughts.
I've got that pedal with 16volt rated supply. This, probably, depends on sell area. About what's inside... I used to open it, to see, is it possible to make it lower profile - nope. Thera are at least two layers of 2-sided PCB's inside. And tube, itself, has to fit somewere... Not bad pedal at all.
It's interesting what you can buy companies don't make anymore. I have a Fender Stargazer pedal. I've had it now for 11 years. You look on Fenders web site and you can see they don't make it anymore. But you can still find them in your local pawn shops.
I've always been curios of the gain staging possibilities between a tube amp and a tube pedal. Seems like it'd be a good route to get a tone unique to you, and not sound like everyone else. Great video as always! Killer tone btw
The power requirements are like that to get the plate voltage of the tube up to where it actually has a real effect on the tone and it's just a marketing gimmick. Since these came out pedal makers have found more efficient designs though.
Sounds like complete mud. Throw that thing in the garbage. So muck mid-range ya can't hear chordal clarity. When playing Nugent..you know as well as I did he had nothing but hid Byrdland and a guitar cord between the signal. Stop the "drop D" originals, they all sound the same. C'mon Robert!
Hey Robert this is Greg your old buddy can you tell me what you use to record your videos. I’m doing some live streaming using OBS I was curious if that’s what you’re using. Also what kind of camera are you using
Hey buddy, hope you’re doing well! If you’re looking to do some live streaming, StreamLabs OBS (as opposed to just OBS) seems to be the way to go. It’s free just like OBS, but it has a lot more features and seems to be a little easier to use. This is what I’m using for my live streams these days. For the rest of my videos, I use a Tascam Portastudio DP-24SD 24-track recorder for most of the playthrough demos, and the full tracks are all done through PreSonus Studio One 4. So, StreamLabs OBS for live streaming, multi-track for playthrough demos, and DAW for full track. Cameras are a Nikon D300 DSLR with the kit lens, and a Panasonic FZ-300 bridge camera. This is the one that I use for my live streams. My secondary camera angles prior to 2020 were shot with a Panasonic ZS-40 point and shoot. I’d still be using it, but the zoom went out on it and I bought it so inexpensively that it’s not worth spending the money to get repaired. Feel free to give me a call if you want to go into more detail.
@@RobertWJackson I'm using an Xr 18 and My IPhone 11 with some software that lets my connect to my Mac wireless, I get good green screen results. have not tried OBS streams laps, so you think it is better. Send my your email and I will send you a link to my last live stream.
Blackstar is an underrated company, IMHO.
Agree - I had a Blackstar amp and did a video on it and got mostly positive feedback. I’ve since sold it but it was a nice little amp
Never had one. Thanks Robert for the review. Have a great rest of the week.

One of the best pedal I had! :)
They’re pretty cool, aren’t they?
@@RobertWJackson Oh yeah!

My fav pedal of all time is its cousin, HT-Dist.
Great content, thanks Robert 👍.
That sounds really great

Yeah it looks like it could work as a preamp pedal

A lot better then I imagined. Not a huge fan of Blackstar? You do them a huge plus! You need to do a few Wampler pedals, it will up the game big time.
That rocks dude!!!
Thanks!
Sounds good and looks like its built like a tank. To bad theres no option to use batterys. Would love to hear the metal version
Sez Harley: "It's gnarley!"

I wish you would have cracked it open, would have been nice to see how they integrated the 12AX7.
Sorry man. I don’t like to open up my pedals unless I absolutely have to.
Robert's Guitar Dungeon Fair enough, I get that :)
Ratt's lay it down riff)
Sounds good! Had the ht dual, good pedal. Question, are you still using the digittech cabdryvr for cab sim?
Occasionally. I use it when I go direct into my multi-track. I haven’t used it going into the DAW in awhile, though.
I don't know man, it sounds a bit fizzy on my chinese-made cellphone speaker. XD
Lol
great now the prices for these on reverb just doubled.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
ECC83 and 12AX7 are the same thing.
Yes and no. ECC83 is the British designation and 12AX7 is the American moniker. But yes, they are basically the same thing.

Warning Scam confirmed
What scam is that?
Idk this doesn't sound that good to me
