I am still in complete utter shock that this truck survives! It may have only had a few minutes of screen time per episode, but this is a massive piece of 1980s pop culture history that has survived to the present day! Thanks for rescuing it from an uncertain fate!
When she started up, I was a lil chocked up. I will always remember Knight Rider. One of my childhood favorite TV shows. I wish Devin Miles (RIP) could have been around for this. Well take care everyone and be safe.
The semi-restoration is what Knight Rider Historians are all about. You will have it fine-tuned and back in shape in no time with your enthusiasm. Awesome work.
I would leave the air ride on it. Yeah it's not original, but if you start doing shows later on, your butt might appreciate that slight modification...😉😁😂
Im thinking thats more of a trucker mod, ive seen similar hacks for a fast idle in cold weather.. newer trucks have an idle up feature older ones like this did not
That bolt on the floor was Initially used as a form of cruise control on the trucks of that era, not for the stunt, but they used it for the stunt since it was already there
I drove an old Western Star tow truck (1973 model?) back in the 90’s. It had the accelerator hold down also. We used it as a high idle to get the hydraulic pumps up to higher speed and pressure.
If there was any doubt whatsoever this Semi was the real deal, that original (and dated) Universal Studios keychain is all the proof you needed! Great find! I'm very proud to help KRH with this historic endeavor and support its mission to restore, protect, and preserve the legacy of Knight Rider and pop culture itself!
@Southern Hellstorm - The KRH have a documented history of ownership through the Vista Group computer data which THEY NOW OWN. They've found evidence of several repaints to the truck (red/black/blue) through various productions, evidence of the back end being heavily modified, and other details. The Universal Studios key chain was the last piece of that puzzle which you can't fake, because it's "NBCU" now - the logo on it is literally retired and was unavailable to the general public back then anyway. So before you smugly come on here and attempt to tell them, me, or anyone else what is and isn't "authentic", you should actually *know* how to authenticate a screen used vehicle beyond surface details. Details which have obviously worn out over nearly 40 years and have been replaced with new parts by previous owners. But hey you're welcome to your opinion, even if it is a highly naive one.
I have a feeling, many people will join your journey. I just have that hunch. Maybe like Jay Leno...just my feeling but it relly make me wanna be part of it. Everyone eye on KITT, but forgot this Truck is part of it too!. Basic support, not skipping any add appear on this video. Keep it up! Peace from Malaysia.
GM sure got their money’s worth out of those power window switch design! I had the same switches in my ‘64 Cutlass, my ‘79 Pontiac, and my buddy’s ‘88 Caprice!
You have the Semi, you have KITT....once you have the trailer, do we get to see KITT driving up and down the ramps into and out of the trailer whilst it is rolling? That would be epic! Great work team.
Lts what do you mean by idle the truck up for PTO? And Ast, I wonder if it is possible too. I mean, I do think there are a maybe once or twice that we see RC3 ripped out of the semi's driver seat, so, it's possible. At least, I would think so.
@@morganrussman To me it seems the pedal is kept around halfway down. Without load that might even reach the Rev limit. I've never been around these big rigs but it seems more logical to me to use something like this when on the move.
@@ast5515 I feel like the idea of it being possible that the bolt was, like you question, was sometimes used for stunt scenes where the driver was sometimes pulled from the seat.
@@morganrussman if the farmer had something mounted on the truck that required hydraulics the truck would have what’s called a power take off (pto) mounted to the transmission. That runs a hydraulic pump and gives hydraulic power to whatever the truck is hooked to. Grain box or auger wagon. Very common on a farm truck. To give the pump more pressure you have to rev the motor up. As someone who drives truck reaching down and trying to clip that little hook to the pedal might be difficult. Not saying it’s impossible but I know I probably couldn’t do it
This is amazing news!!! I did my part and donated and also got a coffee mug!!! If you’re able to donate...please do so...let’s get the semi back to its glory!!!
inside of that cab needs the mousesucker 3000 to be safe for a feller to work on. Moses!! that must stink in there (i picked up the lingo from a channel called Vice Grip Garage)
Very cool! I know the feeling of bringing old cars, trucks, vans, and motorhomes alive again after many years of neglect. So good to see such a special piece of history brought back from oblivion. Thanks for what you do.
I’m dumbfounded. This was so fascinating to watch, and it’s going to be fun following the restoration of an iconic vehicle. So many videos still for me to go through on this channel!
This is great. I saw videos from other trucks having a hard time starting the engine years after being fully stopped. This one, right at first. It runs like new. I love those straight pipes with the flaps. I don't know exactly why don't they make them anymore. Great diesel engine sound. Great to see it rolling again.
I can not even begin to rap my head around the work that needs to be done to restore it back to it's Knight Rider self! Still amazed that you managed to find it! Couldn't be in better hands! Very cool seeing it drive and the unique Universal studios touches, along with the key chain! Cannot Thank you enough for the wonderful work, time and effort you put in to save these pieces of our child hood, will definitely consider supporting you by possibly getting one of those cool T-shirts! Looking forward to the next update!
This is so amazing that you guys found the 2nd GMC semi tractor from Knight Rider. I’m glad it now has a very good home instead of being abandoned and forgotten.
Oh man, that keychain definitely needs to go back on the keys for the truck when this project is complete! You finding those under the carpet was pure destiny, on camera no less! What a wonderful surprise, when you said 'Let's see if there was any treasures left in here" I did not expect you to find that little gem buried amongst all the mouse poop. One would almost assume that was staged but I can tell that was purely a genuine reaction when you discovered it. Thanks to whoever decided to stash the original studio keychain there. It was meant to be found by you many years later!
All you need to do now is find a trailer that looks exactly like the one that was used on the show, and paint it black with the gold trim and with the FLAG logo on it
www.penskeusedtrucks.com/usedtrucks/JpgServlet/485172_1.jpg ... It maybe called a "Dry Van Trailer with Side Door"... If your interested to know what the trailer part is called.
So nice to see it still runs and 🚗 even in this condition. I wish you well with the restoration. It will be awesome when its brought back to its former glory.
I thought all the gmc generals had v8 Detroit engines in them, kinda cool to see an 855 cummins under the hood. Good luck with the restoration and I hope to see it out on the hwy some day;
Excited to watch progress on this truck. So glad it’s been found and will be restored to its correct Knight Rider form. I love your attention to detail btw.
Your very very detailed documentary about this beauty GMC is great and that, what we fans from Knight Rider want! Another people maybe make a lot shorter version from this videos. But then there are a lot of open questions from the viewers and nobody tell this to us. That you found this keychain is very cool 😍 Best wishes from Germany 🙂
The fact that you guys exist makes me happy.

Trucks from the 80’s really did look better. Hope it will get fully restored
So pleased the original semi has survived and that someone knew what it really is

That universal keychain added a whole lot more nostalgia to this truck.
That was a lucky find!
Hard to believe the truck is running again after 15 years, so sweet
usually any old truck will start doesnt matter how long its sitting for
I'm not! Diesel is a oil and it doesn't degrade like gas
That's awesome, good job, she's alive ALIVE!!

I love your gift for understatement: "Headliner needs...some...attention..."
I would leave the air ride on it. Yeah it's not original, but if you start doing shows later on, your butt might appreciate that slight modification...😉😁😂
I agree. No one who ever rode in a semi will hate you for not having springs. Keep the air ride. Put spings on later if it really bothers you.
That's wonderful to see that truck running and driving again
That was one heck of a super boost for that bird's nest.
You mean Turbo Boost?
@@pinball541 Yes! Thanks for correcting me :)
