Great reaction! Yes Geoff was Ursula, J-None was Sebastian, Rachel was Ariel, Eli was Flounder and Layne was the chef. Rachel Potter actually played Ariel at Disney World for 5 years so she had a lot of practice. Yes, Layne who did this arrangement as well as Geoff who does arranging for them too have both said that they do multi-tracks when they record. They said they do this to thicken the sound. Another great cover to check out is their cover of Dragonborn Comes and Rains of Castamere from Geoff’s solo channel.

Their Wicked medley is REALLY good if you want more theater-type stuff. Arranged by Geoff. For just plain fun try If I Were a Rich Man and Sh-Boom (50s sound). They've done some great video game theme songs (Skyrim and Halo). Some recent Pop and TV songs. You've got a ton to choose from!

Well, I see you've already done 'Oogie Boogie's Song', but VP has three more Nightmare Before Christmas videos: This is Halloween, Kidnap the Sandy Claws and What's This? Plus, as a VP patron, I can tell you to keep an eye out for their upcoming release, it's definitely Halloween fodder!
I think you might also put their "Friends on the Other Side" video into that category. If you're looking for more of their Disney stuff, I love their Moana Medley, also features Rachel Potter, and they've also done a fantastic cover of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from Encanto, the featured performer is Ashley Diane, who they've used quite a bit lately. That will also introduce you to their newest member (has been with them a little more than a year), Cesar de la Rosa, who is a fantastic addition to the group. Ooh, don't know if you're a 'Stranger Things' fan, but Ashley Diane also sings with them in a fantastic version of 'Running Up that Hill', definitely could get Halloween vibes as well from that. And if you'd like to listen to them deliver a beautiful, heartfelt, and melancholy love song, definitely check out their "I Can't Make You Love Me", a stupendous Geoff arrangement with no beatboxing and another fantastic vocal by Cesar.

First time seeing one of your reactions. It just showed up in my recommendations. I am a huge Voiceplay fan. They have all kinds of songs to fit whatever mood you're in. Just Sing was done during quarantine and features old members and collaborators. It should be watched with captions because they will tell you who everyone is. Also with Geoff and Voiceplay's videos always watch until the patron screen because they sometimes have fun little outros. A good Geoff song would be his cover of Way Down. Voiceplay has done several songs from the Nightmare Before Christmas and they did Grim Grinning Ghosts from the Haunted Mansion. Their Friend's on the Other Side would also be a good one for Halloween. On Geoff's channel he has The Headless Horseman and Monster Mash.

This was a terrific reaction and analysis to one of my favorites by them. You summed up Layne perfectly when you said mania and mischief😈! He arranged, directed, edited this piece and is responsible for Geoff being body painted in purple. If there’s an arrangement where Geoff is pushed out of his comfort zone, it’s a guarantee that Layne did the arrangement.
Rachel is their most frequent collaborator and she absolutely nailed this piece, as well she should. She spent five years being Ariel in the Disney parks so she’s got those songs down perfectly.
Eli probably has the most versatile voice and can change on a dime. Your analysis helped me figure out how he can do it so well, and I’ll be watching and listening a lot more carefully in the future.
I have absolutely zero musical training, and learned a lot from reactors and analysts. You have a gift. You can describe vocal techniques that surely are complicated in terms that even I can understand. I have listened to this hundreds of times and learned several new things today.
I would recommend you try their cover of Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean 3. I describe it as a tapestry of sound. It is stunning.
Different lineup as it several years later and the guest artist is Jose Rosario Jr who was performing in Hamilton at the time and was also a member of Rockapella. Although he’s listed as the featured artist, Eli is the one who gets all the stunning lines in this piece. They had aarrangedfor a different collaborator to take that part, but due to Covid couldn’t make it to Florida and Jose stepped in. Eli, being a team player, recorded the high tenor part and Jose took tenor two. Fun fact: Jose and Cesar Delarosa, who is the new baritone and appears in that piece, went to high school together and performed together in musical theater.
J (Sebastian) was recruited by the U.S. Navy to sing with them and Cesar Delarosa is filling that spot.
In 2020, their high tenor left and they have yet to fill that slot so have been using this time away from touring due to the pandemic to use a wide variety of collaborators.
You mentioned that Geoff has been practicing certain techniques and now it comes into his voice without trying much . He credits David Larson with introducing him to subharmonics. David has a rather lengthy explanation of subharmonics and how to use them and has remarked that sometimes he slips into them without even realizing it because he’s done them so often. I’m guessing that that’s how Geoff achieves that gorgeous resonance without even trying hard anymore. It’s a great video even for people who don’t understand 2/3 of what he’s talking about.

I concur with all the songs suggested but there is another option, The Phantom of the Opera, with Rachel again. It is lovely, doesn't have the variability of this one or Wicked which would also be appropriate as close into Halloween. J None (Sebastian here) is now in the US Navy. Last year after getting through boot camp, he had some leave and came back and took the lead in one of my very favorites, Friends on the Other Side.

This is the first of your reactions I've watched, and I'm subscribing in hopes that you indulge in lots and lots of VoicePlay and Pentatonix (and Home Free, but I admit I'm not that into Country). Too many reactors just "ooh!" and "aaah!" and while that's about my level of knowledge, I love the technical information that you, along with the Charismatic Voice and Jennifer Glatzhofer give us.
Looking over your playlists, I note that you have a few Musical Theatre reactions. So ... VoicePlay has done a magnificent cover of "Phantom of the Opera" (again with Rachael Potter), "Fiddler on the Roof," a "Wicked" medley, and, as you like Disney films, another medley from "Moana."
I also see that you did Kate Bush "Running up that Hill" and I'd love for you to watch the VoicePlay take on that song, which is just REALLY good.
I don't even know where to START with Pentatonix videos - they have over 200 and they are sooooo good. Just take their catalog, throw a dart and you'll love whatever it lands on.

What a great analysis! A little piece of business at the end that a lot of people miss is J.None stealing Geoff’s line “Sing it with me now,” and Geoff’s double-take. Lots of little stuff like this in this piece-you caught most of it, and I love the explanation of the techniques employed here. Anyway, Gosh, you should definitely check out “If I Were a Rich Man/Girl,” “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” (I know, done to death, but as usual, these guys just nail it). And yeah, Geoff’s solo work is worth your time.
Also, I would love to see you check out The Bass Gang’s recent cover, Bones, by Imagine Dragons. This is a newer group, 10 songs out to date, but all the members have their own channels and some really superb solo work as well. These guys are, as you might guess, all bass singers with insane range. I’d love to see what you think of them.

For Halloween songs by Voiceplay - Check out Kidnap the Sandy Claus, This is Halloween and What's this.
Otherwise there are many amazing songs by them - Wicked Medley, Hoist the Colours, Carry on my Wayward Son, Dream On, My mother told me, Running up that hill, we don't talk about Bruno, Good 4 U, If I were a Rich Man.
From Geoff, definitely listen to Monster Mash, Way Down, Sixteen Tons, Blackbird, far over misty mountains cold, Shenandoah, Ain't no sunshine when she's gone, The rains of Castamere.
In addition, also check out The Bass Gang (group of 4 bass singers) - Centuries, Yellow Flicker Beat, Iris, Mad World, the Emperor's New clothes.

VoicePlay's Halloween stuff is absolutely amazing, yes. The latest, In The Hall of the Mountain King (yes, *that* In The Hall of the Mountain King) is fantastic (literally, as well as in the more usual sense). They've also done four numbers from The Nightmare Before Christmas, three of which are more Halloween than Christmas, and all of them are great. Geoff's cover of Monster Mash is wonderful, as well.

i've watched many reactions to the video and yours is the first where you actually broke down certain aspects such as them doing multiple tracks over each other so there is more than just the 5 voices going, which i haven't seen anyone else do on their reactions, so awesome job pointing that out to those of us who have no clue that is happening. Great job.

Lovely reaction. I love Geoff too but also all the members of the group. They are all amazing singers and actors. And yes, Geoff has a low speaking voice too. :) To the best of my knowledge, after Geoff or Layne have created the arrangement, and sent the parts to the others, (I know Geoff has to sing each part to share them, I don't know how Layne does it) then each group member records their part seperately at home. Those are then sent to whoever did the arrangement who then has to put them all together on computer and edit. It's a complicated carry on. Once they have the vocal track they come together and film it. That's a whole other carry on often requiring many takes on occasion.

Ursula is Geoff which is why he is purple. Eli in the yellow shirt plays both the seagull and either Flotsom or Jetsom (the eels) the other fellow J None plays the crustacean and the second eel. Layne is the chef. Rachel actually worked as Ariel at Disney for a couple of years. Love to hear you analyze Wicked (Geoff's project) with Eli, Layne, Cesar (newest member), Geoff, Rachel Potter and Emoni Wilkins (both guest vocalists).
