    • @TheRealAaronSmith
      @TheRealAaronSmith 2 месяца назад

Yes, but these aliens seem to fight with blades primarily. They may not know the horrors of what comes soon after those. Injury and death are one thing. Physical combat is well practiced by many things here on earth that do not understand the consequences of war.
Consider some of the following human weapons: flamethrowers, landmines, gas weapons like Sarin, bio weapons like cultured anthrax, atomic weapons and worse, their salted counterparts, orbital bombardment, ICBMs(nuclear or conventional), artillery, guns like the M134 minigun, the Avenger cannon, among countless other rather extreme weapons.
They may not realize, even with sufficient technological development, that these technologies are at their fingertips(or equivalent) even just by developing space travel, and can easily and quickly be adapted into weaponry. Especially since honor seemed to be very important, they may prefer, if not idealize direct and personal combat.
In Stargate(and forgive me as I've only recently been introduced), there's a scene where a warrior culture that uses what I can only explain as a plasma musket, considers humans and our weapons inferior to their own. They use it to shoot a suspended log, scorching it, but otherwise not doing much(if memory serves), and missing a shot or two. Then, the Stargate team demonstrates their weapon. An FN P90. They warn the (alien)men holding the target to back away, and then shoot the log, or first have them push it so it swings, and begin firing at the log, chewing it apart violently with each and every bullet. And then they shoot the line suspending the log, dropping it.
Then the team lead makes a comment about how the alien weapon is meant to scare and human weapons are meant to kill. Or something to that affect.
I will try and find a clip of that scene and post it in a second reply. I'm not sure if RUclips allows links like that, and I don't want this comment to be compromised because of that.

  • @lemonzest6988

We build weapons that are never meant to be used, expressly to ensure that war has no winners. A nuke will likely never be launched again, because if it was, the response would kill everyone. A weapon like that only needs to be used once, before people back down instead of facing it again. We aren't pacifists and we never will be. We're pragmatic enough to know that some battles are just too dangerous to risk fighting. It's been a long time since we've officially declared war because no one wants to commit to that kind of violence. When we label it as conflict, the fight can end whenever we want simply by sending our troops home. In war, going home before you've won just means you fight on different ground, surrounded by innocent people. Ever since nukes were introduced, no one wanted to bring that destruction home.

@@kertagin1For me at least, I hope that humanity will control our darker side. There are billions of humans on earth that do not fight and do not unalive other humans. We get up, we go to work, we have our leisure time and go to bed-all without any violence. Billions of humans go through their entire lives without violence or war.
As a species we’ve still got a long way to go yet, but I think we’ll get there eventually. More of the planet is at peace than at war after all. And for every atrocity committed in war torn areas of the world there are unseen acts of kindness.
I take my hope from those. Like the time someone got stuck between a train car and station platform, and dozens of strangers came together to pool their efforts into pushing against the train car. In doing so they were able to lean it over those precious few centimetres to allow others to pull the person free.
I’ve seen it in real life too. Someone got knocked down by a car and people came from all around the help. First aid kits, blankets, calling the emergency services, setting up an impromptu roadblock and directing traffic away from the incident onto alternate routes. I was one of the ones who chose to assist diverting traffic. I’ll never forget the expressions on the faces of the police officers who showed up to find everything already set up by members of the public.
They quite literally ended up being briefed by us and taking over from us. I ended up shaking the hands of the two guys I’d been working with until the police arrived, then parting ways. We humans are capable of great violence but we’re also capable of great compassion so I hope one day we’ll all get the balance right.

Just because you wage war, does not mean you have the capacity to understand the extent that it can reach.
Ants wage wars. But they don't collapse each other's nests, even if they don't plan on taking it over. They don't obliterate their local environment to do so, they move around it. Even chimpanzees are known to engage in band wars. Same idea. They aren't poisoning the land, the water, the air to kill or disfigure. They don't harness the power of a star to end countless lives in a fraction of a blink of an eye.
I made note of, and was amused, at the reference to these war worshipping aliens not wishing to "trade the familiar weight of a blade...". Their ability, or preference of fighting, is primitive even by century-old human standards today. We may use blades, but those are last resort, not our first choice.
We know the depths and consequences so well even at this point that we do everything we can to not fight face to face. We use guns, long range weaponry like missiles and artillery, drones, etc.

After the obvious on to the story:
It's a good concept overall, but it felt a bit too long, a bit too repetitive in some parts. On the other hand, I would have liked more information on that hammer of dawn, and that stone. What kind of weapon was it? How did the stone end the war before the weapon was used?
This one feels a bit too "edgy", as if someone tried really hard to make it an epic story but didn't have or want to give enough background info and instead used a lot of nice-sounding words to cover up the lack of information.
In conclusion: too long in some parts and too superficial in others.

    • @TheRealAaronSmith
      @TheRealAaronSmith 2 месяца назад

      I can understand that take.
I got a little distracted around the time the stone was mentioned, so no explanation there at the moment.
My guess for the Hammer of Dawn is that it's a reference to Project Thor, or something similar. That being an orbital bombardment system. Basically putting something incredibly dense and heavy in orbit, and then dropping it on the target using its attributes and the velocity it picks up from re-entry as the energetic payload as opposed to explosives or something along those lines.
If you'd like to look into such things, a search of "Kinetic bombardment" should give you some interesting leads.

A very good story to be sure. Do portray humainity in a very badass way without display of other the top fighting power. Simply showing the veterancy of humains and the knowledge they got from it. And realy like it.
On a totaly different subject : That stone artifact that is showcase many time as the "biggest reminder of darkest time in humanity's history", do left me very curius about it's history to become such a symbol.
Given the desciption as a smooth, light, white, small stone, I think it something like the a peace of a world ou a planet. And I wonder if out of all celestial object in humain territory, it was actually what was left of Hearth's Moon. Like during their worst time humains saw the destruction of the Moon to the point there's only a small stone left to tell the tale.
I'm thinking about the moon because it hold a lot of symbolique importance to human's. But it's not as importance as the hearth itself that would let the humains be knowed as a speacy without homeworld to others in the galactic realm.
In the different country i went and exchange I did with the local people, I realised, how little I knew realy about there country history (even neighboor country to mine) as well as they didn't about my country exept for event such as world war or war between our counry's. So it would not be impossible in a galactique age that even with all the advanced education and technologie. The general part of a speacy wouldn't know about the such a big event for humain as the destruction of the moon, if not teach about the very simbolism of moon to hearth. Hell in a lot of syfy setting hearth gouvernment symbol is that of the planet hearth with the moon orbitate around it.

They staired at the small unassuming smooth pebble.
    "What is it?" She asked.
He was silent for a moment. "The culmination of unchecked naked aggression and unrestricted warfare." he stated.
She was confused. "How is a pebble all that?"
After a moment of contemplative silence he answered. "It is the results of the last weapon used in the last war we fought. A Quantum Resonance Fusion Compression Bomb. It was meant to be used on the battlefield, but was accidentally detonated when an extreme range missile had it's guidance system Electro-Magnetically scrambled. That pebble, is the remains of a major metropolitan city that was home to 12 million souls."
. . . . and that was when Humanity permanently embraced the path of Peace.

There's people now that lived through war and don't think like this, I could only wish aliens would have this kind of psychology, when we have people whose grandfathers fought and died horribly against something, propping up a different flavor of that same thing. War aside, we can't even agree on the idea that no one should starve, if only this kind of optimism existed

ehh , sorry but the whole constipation of context and lack of practical assets just gets dull
,yes yes you learnt total war leaves nothing but those that learnt that should also learn that while trying to force peace with the sledge hammer of hard power as most of the idiotic current supernations/empires done is as stupid and reaches the same result like thinking isolation halt others progress or politics so should they also know that a healthy 'balance' is better then any extremism so sure peaceful yet with a steel clad demonstration of capability and indeed brining 'perspective' to those risking to unleash total war , yet also standing ready to back those having it forced upon them after all unlike those that treasures life a genocidal slave empire for example would not care if the galaxy is made barren aslong they survive to rule the ashes
so good reading ,but to much fourth wall space opera for me to hear more then half
