The Polar Express Lionel G Gauge Scale Battery Train - Under the Christmas Tree Toy Electric Review

- I'm so excited to show you the Lionel Polar Express Battery G Gauge Train! This is considered a cheaper option to an electric train. This will be my son's first electric train, and he absolutely loves the Polar Express! With the success of the movie, it is only fitting that Lionel and other train companies try to make due on the success of the book and movie. The Polar Express G Gauge Train Retails for roughly $100.00, and is considered to be a cheaper option for parents that are looking to get their kids an electric train. I was pretty impressed with the detail on this train, but the field tests tell a different story.

its 2024. When this came out, i would have been 2. 11 years later at the age of 13 i still remember this video so much. one of my personal favorite memories of my younger childhood. thanks for making this video
So overwhelmingly nostalgic for me!!
Nostalgia...It's one hell of a drug
1:28 I just like when he says alright let’s open this puppy up
Nostalgia moment
I LIKE THE THOMAS OPENING!
lol
We got this set from Toys R Us in late 2012 around Christmas time. My two sons also watch this movie at least once a week! My 5 year old can recite the entire movie as well! We paid around 85.00 US dollars for this set!
It is affordable for what you get. After having it for quite some time, I do realize now that it is cheaply made. There is higher end models by lionel, but that will set you back much more money. I guess you get for what you pay for. Thanks for the comments!
Josh
My two almost 3 year old son wants this. He has lots of trains and know how they work. He loves the movie. He's getting It for Christmas or his birthday.
My biggest regret was returning this to get the newer ones that were released a few years in a rowe. This release has the disappearing character & footsteps on top & the tracks were way thicker & better than newer ones. Now, this model is worth more & harder to find.
Yeah even an s guage one the old one is better
I just bought one off of eBay for $85, though it's missing the remote and the Christmas bell. This specific set gives me nostalgia because back when it was new, my neighbors got one and when I saw it for the first time, I thought it was the coolest train set ever. I remember this set because of the footprints on the observation car. I've wanted one for years and I've finally got one for the Christmas seasons to chug around my Christmas tree.
I remember when the first few sets of this engine came out. It came with the engine, tender, 4 coaches, and a few figures of the characters. The conductor, the girl, the main kid, the smart kid, and Billy (the only one named). A limited run also included a replica of the bell. Dang thing sold for $250.

My son absolutely Loved the Polar Express. Probably seen the movie 100 times!
POLAR EXPRESS IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER DUH
@@SasukeUchiha-pj1pl not the best movie.
Super nostalgic.
I got this set back in 2008 for Christmas. Very Nice Review
@jlouvier even though it’s not as good as an electric train set it looks like a great beginners train set hope your son enjoyed that train. Thank you for reviewing this train.
This Lionel Polar Express Ready to Play Train Set Is My Favorite Train!!!
Very Cool! Thanks for Sharing!
This is amazing
Yeah I got the set for Christmas in 2007. But like I said I don't use the brio coaches I use my Thomas Wooden Railway express coaches.
Thanks, my son is gonna love it as well!
Thank You so much! & Merry Christmas! I haven't figured out if the speed changes with new batteries. I will let you know.
Josh
I love this movie and with a set that can go round your tree amazing another great vid
I got one for $25 on amazon as well, haven't received it yet but I'm pretty sure it's worth what I paid. It's gonna make an excellent Christmas present for my grandson!
Super Deal!
As a fan of the movie and book I'd definitely get it .
This train set is 70.00 dollars on Amazon
Awesome review! I have seen this set in stores before, but now i can see how it works :)
Are u talking to urself.
I guess I shouldn't condone Thomas being run over by the Polar Express, but it did make me smile :)
Nice for children, thank you for the review.
I like it
😀😀😀😀😀😀
I love it😃😃😃
Thanks! we had a blast filming this!
Awesome! It's a nice set!
Ok u gotta stop.
Of course the lionel O-gauge set is far superior, but this is a nice big train for younger kids. Great hobby and a great way to get them interested in it. This train set is a nice addition to any Christmas village scene or around the Christmas tree. Again the G-gauge version is a nice set for the younger ones. Merry Christmas !
Yes, my son has the wooden brio polar express as well.. We also have a battery powered brio polar express that words on wooden tracks.
Great Video!
Great idea!
Only one thing missing is mentioning how hard it is to line up the train with tracks, it is a real pain especially when it falls of same for the o model of this also.
nice video and happy new year
R.I.P Thomas and Tank Engine 0:25
Thomas got hitting by Polar Express Lionel 1225 for Christmas 11 years later.
Merry Christmas
This is a very nice train even if it is a cheaper model it's still a very nice train thank God Lionel thought about people that may be on a budget in Cape afford a very high-priced rain it may be a cheaper model of the Lionel but lease a person out there still get to enjoy this train
Excellent review! the hidden man atop one of the carriages is a cool little feature, and yes being able to send this train backwards is a cool RC option to have available. The thomas crash intro was epic - and of course keeps us all super-glued to the screen! Very entertaining! Funny jingling bell outro at the end LOL
Awesome!
cool
we have a duoble-0 gauge train going around our christmas tree that my dad has had since he was 7

Very True... I do agree it can be a pain to line up the trains on the track.
Does anyone know when this train first came out? And when they redesigned it and why? Was there a change in manufacturer? I bought my Dad this train from Walmart in 2019 and found that the additional passenger cars I got off eBay for my set that I bought a few years earlier would not work on his. The track width had changed. Also the Batteries were now in the engine and not the tender. Originally the track matched up with the New Bright, Echo, Scientific Toys? But the new one??? Why did it change? From what I can tell the only way I can spot the "new" sets out of the box now is the silver ring around the engines drive wheels (The old sets did show the ring on the drive wheels painted in the box artwork. But were just one color on the actual engine.) Of course also the batteries moved and also the observation car no longer has the "footprints" in the snow or the flip up hobo.
9 years later after I've seen this and I now have the second tooling of this that's currently sold
I did that with my American Flyer Polar Express manual. I just tossed it to the side like nothing. I only look at it for lubrication spots
Hey Josh Great review! I love how you got in touch with your Christmas side, and really explained all the pros and cons of this set :) Do you think that once the batteries die out further purchase for more will increase/decrease the speed of the locomotive? Oh and also I take my hat off to you for saying "Merry Christmas" just so many people have gotten forced or accustomed to saying, "Happy Holidays" which really kills Christmas... Anyways Great Review and Merry Christmas!
Wow,this is super
Great job bro 👍
Got this form$25 from an Amazon flash deal. Pretty sure it's worth more than that and can't wait to set it up under our tree!
Wow! Great Deal!
U can create about three different track setups:
1 - Circle
2 - Oval
3 - Square (Only if your train set came with 4 straights)
i got this set its awsome but its diffferent the engines firebox doesent light up and doesent got a music button on the controler
It's a nice set, although I have seen better G Gauge Sets. I would recommend the O Gauge if you can get it, as it's much better!
All aboard!
Welcome to the Polar Express
i remember getting this one about 9 years ago for Christmas! but it doesn't really run right anymore because the wire that goes from the tender to the engine has been coming out every time i try to run it. but it is a really good train and i hope i can get my problem to work after taking the engines shell off to see what was wrong
that was funny,nice work😂👌
no it not fanny
Absolutely! Thanks for commenting
Great review, and I love how in the intro the G-Scale train derails when hitting Thomas, but Thomas, stay fine in the middle. :D
LOL ... great review, I have the same train. I like it, but wish it was a hobby-quality "model train". Last weekend, I set it up ... about 80 feet of track that runs through my living room and dining room .. posted a video in case you want to check it out. Not mentioned in your review ... the train has pegs that allow the included characters to be mounted on the roof or rear of the observation car, or on the front of the engine.
If Lionel or Bachmann ever decides to market a LiPo-battery-powered hobby-quality model train (especially G Gauge), they won't be able to take my money fast enough. ;-)
You know you have nice reviews
I have a rare Lionel Lionchief g scale Pennsylvania flyer train set
Thanks Ben!
Thanks! Happy new Year!
I got a polar express like that at the flea market today
found one for 40 not 100 is it worth it?
Hi. What is the higher end model? O Gauge? Cam someone tell me the difference please? Thanks
That was cool
Kelly Berryhill in koo
Yep! The O Gauge blows this out of the water! But if you had a budget you had to stick too, This is your train... I did find that there are many other G Gauge trains that run a bit better. So you are really paying for the name here!
1:40 new operators of the train do?
that's a cheaper train than other trains that had to hurt Thomas after he gets hit by it I love the Lionel polar express g gauge
This was purchased at Toy's R Us here in the United States.. We got it last Fall 2012
When I was younger I always wondered if Thomas was ok or not and was worried
you should review the BRIO polar express if you have time before xmas
I'm getting it for crismas
I love the polar express train
Happy Tenth Anniversary to this video
Wow, I didn't realize this. Thanks for the info
Hi
Im new to the hobby and want to start with the o gauge ready to run polar express.. someone recommended that i buy a lionel transformer... is it necessary ? Any other thing i need to consider buying to run this train ? Thank you
Hmm, interesting. Is the set made by lionel? It could be an older model?
Hey i now what charecter you should review this friday Neil if you have it.
Thomas the tank engine got hit by a polar express.
Chuffing to timouth sheds one christmas eve
Rip: thomas the tank last Words:OH NOOO!
mine puts out smoke if u put in the liquid and it actually the smoke stays in a ring shape
And you have the same polar express as me :D
Thanks for telling me.
Hi, I have a train like that but it only has 4 parts. We put the batteries on the remote and the train but it does not work. Should I have a hidden switch?
Totally agree with you.. This one is cheaply made.
+jlouvier to me it doesn't look so bad but personally i love the movie
jlouvier try
cravin16
cravin16 exactly
GOOD VIDEO :O
I’m surprised that you forgot the waves of o gauge train sets of the polar express, like the many version of the o gauge polar express where it’s a real model that is real 2-8-4 and has some pretty good value gears, the different waves were just small details and new blue tooth. And the spin off trains like the work train and elf car with a bunch of polar express branded items. You might want to save your money and don’t buy all of the o gauge waves.
I HAVE THE EXSAME EXCACT SET FROM 10 YEARS AGO.
How much was it when you bought that train?
in the movie the observation car dose not have the laybil on it
hey josh I have the original 2004 release of this polar express my remote has just the whistle and bell bottons. And my polar express has no light in the cab.
i found out the doors on the coaches open not all and for the price over all 3/10
i got this set in 2010 but it didnt come with the bell
Thank you for telling me the price of the train I appericate it alot.
My problems with this really have to do with the detail. The locomotive barley resembles a 2-8-4 berkshire (the toy is a 2-8-2). The whistle bell are generic. And the coaches look to "plasticky" for my tastes. If you want a quality one save the money for the o-scale lionel one
As the Know-it-all kid once said: "Do you know what kind of train this is?"... "It's a 2-8-4 Berkshire locomotive..."
Well hey this is the first one to have the porch first name on the coaches at the bottom which is accurate to the movie.
Where can i purchase a Lionel one ?
The Bellcaptain do you know where i can purchase the Lionel brand train. I looked on amazon only found one ?
The Bellcaptain I have The Polar Express around my Christmas tree
Totally agree with you! The O gauge is way more exciting than this...
I used to have this but I don't know were it went
where did you get the Polar Express from what store
I got it from target
Duh Internet
Arne polar express I got was a ready to run from Lionel. Why is this different? I really would like this other version
