I've been a hobbyist guitar builder for many years now. I've built more than 20 fender style guitars. I'm a master electrical contractor by trade and master outdoorsman. But, I'm thinking it's time to start building bodies and necks for sale at reasonable prices. The market seems to be opening up.
I started carving my own bodies abd headstick designs. Even carving shapes into the tops of the guitar bodies. Hit me up. Let's just make original guitars.

From the very first email it felt more like you were emailing with a buddy you have had for years and you both just kind of get to geek out about guitars and even cool bands and venues! Ask Jonathan about my latest Build, The Grim Reaper Telecaster. If you can't find someone to build your Custom shop, you could Fill a Great void and Become a Luthier, Good Ones are few and far between or so overbooked its hard to get onto their Schedule. I began doing moderate Luthier work and restoration because of injuries sustained in Motorcycle accidents to maintain mobility and use of my right hand, and then took it to another level by doing it first for myself then friends to now where build for Kids, Seniors, Vets or Charities , So they Win and I win
I bought a Custom Shop ‘60 Tele Custom team build a few years ago. By far, the best Tele I’ve ever played, and easily one of the best guitars I’ve ever played in nearly 50 years of playing.
Since you have Fender's ear, suggest more hardtail strats in their lineups, not just CS but their regular lineup too. At best we have the Squier Bullet, Fender Noventa, and Robert Cray (if it's even made any more). Hardtail strats are awesome!

I just finished building my own custom P bass, based on a FCS LTD ‘58 Precision bass, for a fraction of FCS’s retail price in fraction of the time. I don't care about the re/sale value because I'm not going to sell it. 1-pc swamp ash body 1-pc quarter sawn maple neck (C/44.5mm width nut, soft V profile, .90” @1st fret, precisely contoured to match FCS ‘58 P neck), 9-1/2" R, 6105 frets (my preference for this) Transparent white blonde lacquer body and satin amber lacquered neck. Moderate aging on finish (with checking) and hardware. 10-hole black anodized brushed aluminum pickguard. All ‘57-‘58 vintage Fender period correct hardware, including bridge with threaded saddles (the correct one with finer/tighter threading). Gotoh Res-O-Lite GBR640-XN tuning machines. (Aged nickel) Klein Epic ‘58 Precision pickups, CTS 250K audio pots, Switchcraft output, .1uf orange drop tone capacitor, fully shielded electronics cavities. Fender 9050L 40-100 flatwound strings.
It has been beneficial to my company. The demand for commisioned guitars has risen. We have 80 custom guitars in stock but totally ready to take orders. The more the merrier. I want people to have what they want, not settle for whats there
The one email I got from Jonathan in response regarding a possible P bass build was more informative and helpful in my decision to hold off to save up for a Master Built than the two other shops I’d reached out to who acted like they didn’t want to be bothered at all. He let me know what option put into the next level, and why and that allowed me to think about whether I want to forego it for a team build, or possibly think about adding more interesting features down the line to make the upcharge truly worth it. You guys are great, and when the day comes to add another CS to my stable you’re definitely getting my business. Keep up the great work!
Guys after watching many of these videos and now after having met you…I really want to get a custom shop or master built guitar…I know a bit about guitars and know what I like but…I would need a lot of guidance…someone to help me find what I want…it sounds like that is part of your process…

Hey guys, have you had any interactions with ToneShop Guitars in Texas? You guys have a very similar business model. As I live in Texas, I work with them constantly. They helped me spec out my masterbuilt Strat, and they were so awesome!! Would love to see you make a trip out here to see them.

@@rontheguitarcollector I need to stop by at the Southlake location. I do agree. Another shop to visit is The Guitar Sanctuary at McKinney, TX. They don’t have a lot of electric guitars (but they had great PRS selections) but they have great collection of pedals, acoustic and amps. I think they have an in-store pedalboard builder.
@@churro_gonzalez you are correct, they do have a pedal board builder on site. I always feel like I’m in a museum when I go in there though. I love it, but it feels very stiff to me.

It’s incredibly hard to get custom shop stock from the big brands here in Australia 🇦🇺. I’m actually planning a trip later in the year to the us purely to get 2x custom shop builds started

It's not just Fender. I recently cancelled a Jackson Custom Shop order which was basically updated with a message essentially saying 'we don't want your money, we're swamped'.
Here’s a topic for you fellas, Reverb hunting guitar models you previously sold/traded. Like trying to now find a American Pro limited edition lake placid blue strat with a marbled ebony board is now impossible.
My understanding is that only a small selection of authorised Fender dealers have access to the custom shop. Do you mention this in your long winded ad for yourselves. Or am I misinformed?

Hey guys good morning, I have what I think is a good question, is it possible to get any neck that you want. A friend of mine has a telecaster that feels amazing, I’ve never seen this neck on any stock fender products ever, I hope you reach out to me on this matter. Thanks Ruderik
You can only buy mass-produced replacement necks directly from Fender. The Fender Custom Shop doesn't make necks for purchase, even if you break one accidentally. "The STRATOsphere" has a good selection of necks and parts, and every once in a while they'll take apart a Custom Shop to sell.
I know it's kind of an up and down, boom vs bust era over the past few years with guitars. Just a hypothetical guys - what happens if the shop you're ordering through closes while you're awaiting your custom shop? does it ship to your home and fender starts communicating more directly with you or?
Not complaining but it took me calling y'all three or four times and emailing a few times just to get y'all to respond.. and I never got to talk to you about movies or saw a quote before giving you a deposit on a custom shop order. So not all interactions are like you describe. But I called a couple other showcase dealers before getting my order placed and only one was helpful (Wildwood) and the other (will remain unnamed) sounded disgusted that they had to answer a phone.

All of the guitars used by our guitar heroes throughout the decades have used guitars from off of the wall. Not custom built and falsely aged replicas. Save a whole lot of money, and buy a guitar you love then play the shit out of it.
Why would anyone involve a guitar shop in their custom build? These guys crap all over parts casters (custom builds) and definitely should not be trusted with a wrench, file, or comb.

If I ever ordered a custom shop it would be a hardtail. I have put together 3 partscasters and they are all hardtails.
I went with a Wilkinson drop in replacement. Sturdy as a rock and zero tuning issues. Not quite a hardtail, but the closest I could get.

No doubt, working with Baxter on my custom Nashville Tele was a joy. One day I’ll come back around for a custom hard tail Strat.
