I like to listen to Mother Mother, with headphones, turned up all the way, dark quiet room, and no one else around. Finally a band that gives me a sense of isolation in a good way while being in a calm setting.

mother mother is such an underrated group? there music speaks to me in a very deep way. and gets there message across with words not used by most.they can be morbid, and sad and sometimes there music can even be a bit funny. but whenever i listen to it i feel like a very deep part of my brain just...wakes up. this song especially

Not sure about the first 2/3 of the song but I think the last bit might reveal what the song is about. It's about the world being such a terrible place once you really open your eyes and look at it objectively. There are people starving and dying all over the world. The environment is being destroyed. A tiny percentage of people hold the majority of the world's wealth. The list goes on and on. Now, you could be "happy" if you just ignored all of this pain, suffering, evil, etc, but then you would be "in the dark." The speaker says that people who choose to live this way are "faint of heart" because they can't or don't want to see the truth. Finally, the speaker offers to "leave you with an itty bitty hole" "if you give me your eye." If you choose to see the true state of the world that the speaker wants to show you, you will be left with the burden of knowing, hence less happy. However, you can always look away and probably forget after a while, but the speaker has accepted the truth for a while and doesn't have the ability and/or the desire to forget the truth. This explains why the hole you would be left with is "nothing like the one inside [the speaker's] soul."

By sheer luck I found mother mother; this was the first song I had listened to and this band came to me at the best time it could. Ironic as it is, my own mother has a strained relationship in my life and I'm still facing those problems she caused today. Mother mother is my favourite band and saved me those years back while I still lived with her; I look forward to February so I can finally see them live and be grateful to how much their music as aided me in my journey for restoration.
