is there a difference between differential reinforcement and shaping ?or same?

    • @kristenmonet433

Leo and Lee I think differential reinforcement is the actual reinforcing or rewarding part of shaping. So everytime a new step is added the prior step is no longer reinforced but the current skill is.

No because shaping is reinforcing approximation of the target behaviour and not another response how ever in differential reinforcement is reinforcing approximation of the target behaviour and OTHER POTENTIAL CORRECT RESPONSES

This explanation of differential reinforcement sounds alot like shaping.

Shaping seems to be more like a technique, an ABA teaching tool, that uses differential reinforcement. Differential reinforcement is a consequence of a given behavior -- whether it's reinforced and how. DRA, DRO, DRI, etc... It's a type of behavior-consequence that can "shape" behavior but not the same thing as Shaping as a procedure.
