I'm absolutely certain that if it had been up to the judges, Casey would have won that season. I'm not trying to take anything away from Scotty, because I love his music. Casey was just on another level during that season. Another level that the experienced judges could see, but the voting audience just couldn't comprehend. They just couldn't look past all the old songs he sang. All the old songs that MADE the new songs they wanted to hear great. Every great singer today has sampled from most of those old songs he sang.
