Oh my god! (No pun intended) but my grandmother from the Midwest HATED “oh my god.” She considered it swearing if we said that! lolol never heard anyone else be offended by it! 😅
Yup, my grandparents are this way too. I was born in 2004, I grew up not allowed to say this. As a Christian, I don’t particularly care for it, but I don’t really care if someone else says it.
@@honimelloMy mom’s whole Nebraska family was Southern Baptist. It wasn’t so quaint and nostalgic when she was beaten nearly to death for sneaking out to a high school dance. The eldest brother regularly smacked his seven brothers and sisters around for violating God’s Laws.
From PA here and we don’t say it in our house either. We don’t let our kids say it. I would rather them say the F word. It’s just our thing. I used to say it all the time but I got saved and now it just bothers me. No judgement just a personal thing 🙂
Reminds me of spending summers on my grandpa's farm. They had a regular indoor bathroom but if it was occupied and you couldn't wait you had to use the outhouse. Aside from the wasps nests inside he also kept old tv guides in there for reading material.
I definitely grew up with TV guide in the 80s! But i don't remember why some channels were listed solid black (like channel 2) and others were shown as white, and other variations. Such a fun flashback! ❤
This was so nostalgic: Loved Magnum and Simon&Simon as a kid. And yes, you are right about Gen X: We had the most fun and freedom. I would not want to trade childhoods with my 13 yo son.
It depended o.n where you lived. If you weren't in a big city you had less channels. I think we had around 6 or 7 without cable for HBO and showtime etc. 😊
Oh lord this makes me feel ancient😂 I remember the tv schedule was in the newspaper too. Was it every night? Wow. We had so few channels that I had all the shows and times memorized.😆
My friends and I (millennials) often discuss how we are thankful to have been born in that sweet spot where our childhoods were mostly pre-internet but then we were also young enough to adapt to the digitalisation of the world.
Idk if I’m just imagining this but when I first fell asleep to this video and subscribed you were at about 60 ish subscribers??? Now at 400k- I feel like I’m just seeing things but wow! Anyways this video is awesome!!
According to the "US Inflation Calculator" that $1,600 camcorder was equivalent to buying 1,600 dozen eggs in 1984. You could buy 637 dozen eggs with that amount in 2023 (most recent I could find). Yikes.
I'm 25 and I wish I could have enjoyed this. Life seemed so much better than it is now. I just imagine looking through these to see what you wanted to watch and Nintendo being the new thing. :)
Thank you for the amazing memories which I’d completely forgotten about… well done and detailed. God it brought back floods! And yeah… Gen X has had it all and we reign superior! ❤️
ELder millennial here, as in, I was born in 1984. I identify much more with gen x on a lot of things. Especially my childhood before middle school. Life was care free, kids stayed out till dark, technology was more of a pain to use than just doing whatever it was the regular way. In middle school my childhood was suddenly catapulted into the true millennial era.

I’m from the midwest too, and my uncle was just like that! 😂

I totally agree with you! Us Gen X'ers grew up during such a great time to be a kid and coming of age.
AAAH I love this. As a fellow Gen X from France, thank you. We had the same kind of TV guide printed in black and white. My grandma had them .. 🤗
Her whisper voice is very high quality pitch/tone and is just eargasmic
This reminded me of my grandmother! She still buys tv guides ❤
Oh man do I feel old now
Love this. I used to collect TV Guides as a kid in the 80s. Kept them neatly stacked in a corner of my bedroom. Great memories.
I love your videos Mary. May god bless and protect you and your family ❤❤
So happy I found this! You had me cracking up and also wanting to sleep.
Epic cover. "Don't Hassel the Hoff." Who watched Night Rider, CHiPs and others growing up?

And you could rough up the paper to soften it and use it to wipe you butt 😂

Wow, there were so many channels in the US back in 1984! In the UK we only had 4 😂 Though I just just read that Sky started out in 1984 too.

Happy Days again was just to to separate re runs from new episodes in 1984 since that's when the last episode aired.
Uh huhuh....you said longer. Huh huh. And hard. 😂
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought that headline was funny.
I wasn't even a thought in 1984. My parents met in 1986. They got married in 1995 and had my brother and sister in 1998 and then me in 1999.
Yesssss... waited patiently 😂😂❤❤
you vaguely remember The Duck Factory because that was Jim Carrey's first ever show
