Usually these chiptune remixes kinda remove some of the oomf from music for me, but the Mega Drive's rough sound leads to this almost going as hard as the actual song. This is legitimately amazing. Great job.
This reminds me of the boss themes from Sonic Spinball. A lot of people don't like that game's soundtrack because of how abrasive it is but you look at those boss battles and tell me even their theme song isn't trying to kill you! I can totally see this song playing during the Eggman Scorpion thingy fight!
I loved the boss designs, they were realistically freaky for mechanical monstrosities born from the lunatic mind of Robotnik, housed in these huge sprawling tech nightmares. Sonic Spinball felt to me like Sonic was taking the fight to Robotnik and assaulting his factories to destroy them instead of just reacting to his schemes.
I always appreciated how rough edged it was. I used to listen to the options menu now and then. Like or hate it, nothing quite sounds like the Gen chip when it's allowed to do what it's good at

But one of the leads made a post saying that mick was given extra time to complete the mixed songs for the collectors edition and he still couldn’t have them done. The post was pretty respectful but I’m pretty sure it ended with them saying he wouldn’t be working with them in future projects (the last time I checked)

the genesis and SNES had such great personalities, and the sound chips are a good example of that. you really got a different flavor from each console. it really shows how they were really competing at the time, given today's stuff have very slight differences in specs, in an attempt for everything to run across all platforms.

I expected the guitars to have more distortion on them. The doom guitars usually have a lot of harmonic thickness with an emphasis on the lower bass frequencies. These are a bit too tinny and metallic. You can also simulate a highpass filter by messing with the modulation amplitudes. I think Molkirill did something like that in one of his chiptune jam entries. But I think we're all waiting for Savaged Regime to do a cover of this. Solid Cover anyways

only saying this because the ym2612's pcm cahnnel can only do 16khz when there aren't many samples as the z80 has very little ram available and if you want big boy samples you have to dip the quality to like 10khz and blast it from the main cpu's ram through banks
