Yeah we stayed in the same town outside Toroko (Xincheng, I think) and yes, there's very little in the way of eateries there. We bought fruit from an old lady the first night and found a tiny old restsurant on the outskirts of town the next day. The 3rd morning we went to Hualien and had breakfast at Country Mothers... highly recommended. By the way the four-flanged keys have a dot that you have to line up with the dot on the keyhole. that's how you know which way it goes in. We did the hike to Water Curtain Cave too. A pretty cool hike!

The plugs can be different and sometimes the voltages are different but nearly every modern electronic device out there can accept every voltage in the world so you don't need a voltage converter. You just sometimes need a small adapter for the plug shape which is usually under $5USD. We had a small laptop with us, and a lot of our devices can charge via USB cables from it, so we did that too.

Can't believe that you guys wore that thin and sandals riding on the highest mountain road in Taiwan. But glad you saw the true beauty of Taiwan. At 43:30 of the video, it is one of the best spot to see sun set. Also, if you go there at night, there will be hundreds of thousands stars filled up the dark sky. BTW the egg is stewed with tea leaf and soy sauce, and the beef in the noodle was called beef shank, muscle part of beef.

The beef in the noodle dish were slices of the muscles on a cow or an ox's leg, so each slices has the meat parts and the tendons, the transparent part. Those are actually expensive beef for locals.

    Hi!
I was born there and have not been back for 30 years. It is interesting to see all the positive changes. last time I went back, it was still a developing country - no rapid transit. pollution was horrible. You almost never see North Americans there 30 years ago. I remember street vendor use to bring "Stinky Tofu" cart into the residential area and sell it house to house. good memories! I am now thinking of taking my kids there!

The bird on the 1,000 New Taiwan dollar banknote is Mikado pheasant not Taiwan blue magpie.
In the 2007 National Bird Voting Campaign held by the Taiwan International Birding Association,[3] there were over 1 million votes cast from 53 countries. The Taiwan blue magpie defeated the Mikado pheasant and was chosen as Taiwan's national bird, though it has yet to be formally accepted.

Not sure if you already knew this but the 7-11 that you guys stopped by towards the end is actually the "highest" 7-11 altitude wise in Ching Jing. You can kind of see the "2050 meters high" sign in your video. That's why it had touristy souvenirs because Ching Jing is a very popular place to see Alpacas.

Bathrooms and toilets are like that throughout all of Taiwan. You can find them from inside high schools to even inside the fanciest of restaurants. Most of them are openings in the ground because the Taiwanese believe that crouching down helps one have a better bowl movement, and natives are accustomed to carrying around their own toilet paper. The toilet paper also isn't meant to be flushed but to be thrown away. So please don't call it "2nd world" when it is merely an aspect of the culture.

Kaohsiung is a great city and Kenting is a nice little beach town, although a bit touristy. And that thing you ate in the first Taipei vlog (pretty sure) was "dan bing" (my bad romanization). Constantly craving it and have never found anything similar in any country I've been to. BTW if you ever end up in Kaohsiung, my family owns a pizza restaurant and it is the best in the city ;)

haha about the incident with the toilet, but a lot of public restroom in Taiwan don't offer toilet paper so you just have to bring your own. You will see they sell small packet of tissue paper in store or even you can get it for free if people are passing them out with advertisement on them. It is always convenience to carry small packet of tissue paper with you.

    Fun video especially the commentary.
Just for information, the birds on the back of the 1,000 dollar (Taiwan Currency Note) are the "Urocissa caerulea “, or "Taiwan Blue Magpie ruclips.net/video/KLe3CtPzztY/видео.html", (or Mikado pheasant, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Taiwan_dollar ). Taiwan Blue Magpie is the National Bird of Taiwan and if you have look carefully they are standing on the ground and not doing the "F" thing as you guys were thought.
