    ** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
    **A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.

Ardbeg 10. After drinking mostly Jack and Jim for years I wanted to expand my horizons. I started with Balvenie 12 and monkey shoulder. The next I just picked off the shelf based on the cool bottle and it was Ardbeg 10. I'll admit it caught me off guard at first but quickly became one of my go to whiskeys and its probably the bottle i reach for the most now.

I am a fly fisherman......and I use to drive the snobs CRAZY! You are spot on with your thoughts. I was being hassled by a guy with a spay rod, (which is huge), who was jawing about how much better his equipment was than mine. I just turned my back on him and started walking out of the river. I called to another fellow I knew nearby....”You know why I love having a Spey rod near me on the river? Cuz if lighting strikes....that asshole will fry first!”

Hey fellas for what it's worth, I live about 20 miles from Dry Fly and have met Don more than once at the distillery and he is a really good dude, really laid back and friendly, very inviting. One time we were there, there was an older gal who had never been to a distillery, we were in the tasting room, he took her, and anyone who wanted to join, in the back showed us how everything worked. Fired up the equipment and let her bottle her own bottle. I hate that their website comes off the way it does, as there is probably no one who has spent more time in the state of Washington, I actually live in Idaho, doing more for the craft distilleries, pushing for friendlier legislation and just being supportive of the whole scene.

I live in Ohio so, now I feel I need to try the OYO, I have been avoiding it because the distillery has so many things that it does and I was afraid of it just being cruddy at its price point. So thank you for adding it to this review. I literally have been inspired to try different whiskeys because of you guys, and I love it. Cheers!

My spirit whiskey is Jack Daniels Old No. 7. It isn't my favorite whiskey (not even close actually), but it is a whiskey that has seasoned my soul. You see, my dads favorite spirit was J.D. on the rocks. As such, it was also the first whiskey that I drank with my dad. Drinking a glass of Old No. 7 reminds me of the things we used to do together: working in the wood shop, relaxing after a day of sailing on Lake Michigan, playing double deck Pinochle, and just relaxing by a campfire with a glass of J.D. telling dirty jokes and smoking cigars. He was one of the good ones and he was taken from us all too soon. My whiskey tastes may have changed over the years, but whenever I smell and taste Old No. 7 it reminds me of sawdust, windy days, and campfires. It reminds me of dad. That's why J.D. Old No. 7 is my spirit whiskey.

I searched my soul. Spent many a minute reflecting on my whiskey journeys throughout my life. Countless delightful drams of the blessed uisce beatha. Yet only one came back to me as my true spirit whiskey. Garrison Brothers Bourbon. From my first sip of this whiskey, i was hooked. And I’ve never looked back. Price be damned. I will always keep a bottle on hand.

I just got a full bottle of this. It’s now 4 years old and pretty darn complex. Incredible bottle that I’ve never had anything like. I got it at the tasting room and all in got a flight of 4 whiskeys (including this) and the bottle for 50. Not bad at all. Met both of the distillers and they seemed meticulous but not snobby. They are certainly proud of their juice. The vodka and gin are also good at Dry Fly. Can’t fault them for their product.

Hey Rex and Daniel, from the bottom of my heart, and my bottle for that matter, thank you. I've always considered myself a "whiskey guy" because I was basically raised on Jack Daniels and Jim Beam. When I discovered this channel my eyes were opened. I realised that I was more of a "whiskey baby" rather than a "whiskey guy." Maybe one day will reach the level of "whiskey man," but that will take a lot of time and whiskey. (A challenge I am more than willing to face.) As for a spirit whiskey, I would have to say Laphroaig 10. It's like stepping in front of a bus of flavor (A bus that I will gladly step in front of again) . Dammit I'm rambling again. Anyway, thanks guys.

Had my first whiskey experience that blew my mind the other day. I've been trying different cheaper whiskey (Crown Royal Harvest Rye, Wild Turkey 101 and 81, several Jim Beam and Alberta Premium Dark Horse) to see what I like and have come to find I prefer bourbon. So I went out and bought a more expensive bourbon, relative to the others (Woodford Reserve) and found it was a lot more complex and had a lot more flavour on the end. That experience was amazing and has now made me second guess everything I thought on what I like. So I will now be buying some more expensive whiskey to see if my theory of preferring bourbon continues or if I will like the other types more as they get more complex. Exciting to see and thanks for all the great videos!

My spirit whiskey is definitely Talisker Port Ruighe; suggested to me during a degustation/distillery tour I had mooched my way into when I mentioned I preferred Port to Sherry as a drink (this was before Whiskeyvault and thus before me knowing/noticing that sherry finish was a huuuge thing) . Boy did it hit the spot, the brine and smokiness you're used to with a Talisker punches you in the face while the sweet flavours of Ruby Port embraces and hugs you.

Yay! My hometown distiller and favourite variety from them. Also as I get through the video, the guys who run it are cool and so is the entire crew. Their tasting room is a nice casual place where all walks of life come to enjoy some good whiskey or their fantastic gin and vodka cocktails. The copy on the bottles and site is snobbish, but the place could not be more chill.

I went by the A.D. Law Distillery here in Denver last night about dusk. I think that Daniel mentions this particularly distillery in a video (not this one). The distillery is in an old mixed use neighborhood on Acoma Street in Denver that has a very weird vibe. Unfortunately, the distillery was closed, but a huge raccoon was monkeying around out front looking for his dinner. I had to laugh because the raccoon stood up on his hind legs and gave me a toothy grin as if to say bring it on........that’s something that would only happen here in Denver. You go for a whiskey tasting and end up at the hospital getting the battery of rabies shots. Priceless......Lol!

Damn it. Pick my spirit whiskey. Thats like picking your favorite kid. I dont have any kids. Im screwed. However,if i had to it would be my own blend. It would be a lightly peated deanston virgin oak. With notes of freshley cut oak, butterscotch, nutty, and with a hint of smoke. That would combine my love of the outdoors as well as the gentler side.Keep in mind i am a man of many spirits.

My spirit whiskey changes by the season. Mainly because when it’s colder I like heavier whiskeys that tend to knock you around. Where as when it’s warm I like something that I can mix in cocktails to make it more refreshing. So for the summer I would say Jameson or any light and friendly irish whisky. The fall a bourbon because it’s nice and vanilla with a smoky aspect that goes well with turkey and pie. Where as in the winter heavily peated scotches at higher proofs more like cask strength. And in the spring I actually choose to pull it back so I can have my time of no alcohol so I can keep myself from constantly having a drink. It’s also good to have an annual no alcohol period in order to keep your body healthy.

Ironically enough, for me anyway, that you would ask this question on the day you review Dry Fly. Dry Fly actually has a Port Finish Wheat, but the port barrels are from a local winery, and it is a huckleberry port. We grew up picking huckleberries every summer and eating them in anything we could, so that whiskey always takes me home.

Loving the show, watching since a month or 3 and been watching the older ones also!
I got a question. Since oktober 2017 i started my whiskey collection. Currently at 11 beauties, just to name a few Ardbeg 10, Chivas 18, Dalmore 12 and Highland park 12.
I am trying to improve my smelling and tasting notes. But because some are so complex I actually get lost and get stuck at identifying and describing what I am smelling and tasting. I'd actually prefer to try whiskeys which have a very explicit taste or smell. Like one that is very woody, fruity, earthy, peppery.. Etc I think you get the point. Therefore making its easier to get those clear smells from that certain whiskey, making it possible to also identify those in more complex whiskeys. Maybe this could be an idea for a new video?
Keep up the work. Greetings from Holland!
    Simon

Still a relative beginner when it comes to whiskey, but I'd have to say my spirit whiskey is Ardbeg Uigeadail.

Sadly I have just found my Spirit Whisky. I am new to whiskey, probably only four in my life, I had Laphroaig 10 and greatly enjoyed it so I asked what would the barman suggest. He pulls the Laphroaig Brodir and lets me try, and my heart grew three times knowing I had found a new love. After a few pours I looked to buy a bottle with my hopes crashing around me as I realized each bottle is about $200 and I am a poor college student.

I was going to ask you about Japaese Whisky. I live in Japan and would be interested in a whole week of reviews from Japan. Also you could do other countries in weekly segments if they have a whiskey culture.

Right now it is up in the air with Islay Mist and Michters unblended.
Islay mist because I am usually cheap, a little forward and lack tons of depth. Although if the situation is right I can be pretty charming.
Micthers because I am also kinda nutty.

Hey Daniel and Rex, I'm from South Carolina and was wondering if you've had the opportunity to try Gentry Charleston Lowland bourbon? If so what are your thoughts, if not are you aware of the product at all? Thanks and cheers from the Carolinas!

If I were to choose my spirit whisk(e)y based on a song, I would choose Laphroaig Lore. Just like an early track by Yes(eg. "Close to the Edge") it is much more complex than just verse, chorus repeat(which is great in its own right). Each section is broken up into many different movements and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time like a long, winding roller coaster of delicious, golden brown love...

Just finding my way around this whisk(e)y world, early contenders for the coveted Spirit Whisk(e)y include Glenfarclas 12/15 and Michter's American.
Trying some moderately priced whiskies to stock my bar with and am finding your reviews helpful in this mission.
Thank You Sir Daniel Henry Edward Puddin' Whittington Esquire and Dr Rexford Samuel Charles Twinkle Toes Williams Jr the Third BTW I am not staring at you, me and my lawyer are just admiring the bumps on (both) your head.

Henry McKenna 10 year old Single Barrel Bottled in Bond. Just like me surprisingly complex, honey sweet, smooth with a bit of spiciness. Government regulated for your protection. Drinking in moderation is advised as dangerous activity occurs with excessive consumption.

My spirit whisky is Johnnie Walker Double Black. Not the most expensive or complex whisky I own, or drink, but the taste is right and the bottle is as black as my soul. And after many bouts of standing in the South Padre Island surf, using bigger fish for bait than most fly fishermen catch, and getting my nuts handed to me by the waves, I got your Royal Coachman right HERE, dry fly boy!

Before I’d of said Eagle Rare BUT!
Now, Ailsa Bay. Because it’s like a young little bastard fighting it out with the older guys, and holding his own to the annoyance of everyone.
Also, all of it from the bottle to the taste is beautifully crafted.
