We've been fans even when it was heartbreaking! My Patrick was born before the greatest QB1 ever came to Kansas City but he'd like to believe he was somehow named for him! Scott's paternal grandparents, Steve & Sandy, grew up near Mitch, in Athol/Smith Center area. We are relishing this time with the dynasty that is the KANSAS CITY CHIEFS!!! The offense is entirely different from 2019, it looks like they simplified some routes and play concepts to accommodate the WR room. Patrick doesn’t change he always plays at a high level that permeates throughout the rest of the team. He’s had to become the QB that the team needs him to be in terms of he doesn’t have to do everything himself, that he can trust his supporters offensively and defensively to make things happen to help him. A few of Creed Humphrey’s snaps 🫰 were at tad low, he’s normally very on target 🎯 but it didn’t seem to bother 15 at all got the ball 🏈 out anyway.

Sadly I was cut before the preseason, mostly because of injury. Regardless, I remember getting up at 8am to Watch Chiefs games at noon. Also, you might remember me from Carrollton, TX via Wichita, KS and ST. Joe Griffons hockey. Lastly, we had a cousin that was a trombone player (Tony DiPardo) that was a cousin in the Chief's band back in the day.

We talk a lot about Patrick Mahomes' postseason stats because they're so jaw-dropping. Let's take a look at the stats of two of the other postseason heroes, as Mitch calls them, the Chiefs have had during Andy Reid's tenure.
    Travis Kelce: 21 games, 192 targets (9.1/game), 156 catches (7.4/game), 81.3% catch rate, 1,810 yards (86.2/game), 11.6 yards/rec, 19 TDs (+1 passing TD); 3+ TDs in 5 consecutive postseasons, 70+ yards in 12 consecutive playoff games, 8 playoff games with 100+ rec yards
It is honestly hard to contextualize these numbers, so suffice it to say this: if Kelce's playoff stats were scaled down to a 17-game season, his 1,465 yards would clear by 49 his own regular-season record set in 2020, and his 15 touchdowns would rank 3rd all-time behind only 2011 Rob Gronkowski and 2013 Jimmy Graham. Most playoff receiving records are now held by either Jerry Rice or Travis Kelce, whose 114 points scored in the postseason rank 12th among all players, 4th among skill players, and 1st among tight ends in NFL playoff history.
Harrison Butker: 18 games, 61/64 (95.3%) on extra points, 28/32 (87.5%) on field goals incl. 12/15 (80.0%) from 40+ and 5/6 (83.3%) from 50+; has made 3+ kicks in every playoff game he's played in and scored 5+ points in all but his first
Butker is about as automatic as it gets in high-stakes situations. His playoff field goal percentage is 3rd among kickers with at least 30 postseason attempts, behind only Stephen Gostkowski and Mason Crosby, and his 145 career points scored in playoff games rank 6th all-time, ahead of every non-kicker ever including Jerry Rice (who has 132). He has missed only 1 kick total in his last 7 postseason games combined, going 20/20 on extra points and 14/15 on field goals in that span.

I don't think it's a different path. Just a different year. Yes, the balance between offense and defense has shifted, but it's always about scoring more points than you allow, and always has been.
What's amazing about this team is that there's no real obstacle to adding WR talent to what they have, and holding on to almost everything they already have. They have some issues to deal with: Chris Jones and L'Jarius Sneed are both coming up. The cap hit for Joe Thuney rises to over $26 million if they choose to keep him this year. They've got an escape clause this offseason, but they'd have to eat about $20 million in dead cap to do it.
Rashee had a great rookie season, but that's very rare. KC might need to pony up for a vet if they want to boost that group much in one offseason.
Between the Tyreek Hill trade, and their enormous success drafting and developing players, KC's kept the needle pointing up, year over year. With 32 other teams all vying for a ring, it's almost impossible to stay on top as the Chiefs have done.
In any given season, one or more of those other 31 teams can mortgage its future and buy or rent top talent to lay on top of their best team builds. Every year, a number of teams will do that, because they think they're close.
Teams can rise and fall very rapidly, and you always run a danger of being chopped down by one of those stacked teams at their very peak, the year before they go back into a corner and lick their wounds for a year or years. The Bengals were terrifying when all their O-linemen were healthy a couple or a few years back.
The year they beat the Chiefs in the AFCCG and lost in the Super Bowl, they were already limping, with their interior offensive line gutted by injury (People say "decimated" here, but "decimated" means 10% worse, and this was a lot more than 10%). They could throw on you or they could just power up and run over you, until that interior got torn up.
Joe carried them all the way to the Super Bowl By the next season, the KC secondary was totally rebuilt, and every one of the new guys was smart, quick, fast, and fierce. And they made size a point of emphasis, adding S J. Reid, 6'1'', 200 lbs; CB J. Watson, 6'2'', 200 lbs; CB J. Williams, 6'3'', 200 lbs. The only guy under 6' that they added was CB Trent McDuffie, 5'11'', 200 lbs.
KC was good, with Mathieu and Thornhill. Extra speed in the S group allows you to get away with more single-high, and still deter, contest, and in worst case, prevent the touchdown throwing the deep ball. But those guys were not very good against the run. I think Mathieu was making business decisions that coaching mostly agreed with, but Thornhill was not the most confident or decisive in run support. He got better every year, but he was mostly a coverage specialist back there.
Anyway, the Tyreek Hill haul made it a lot tougher to fit the ball over our corners to hit Jamar Chase. They still didn't win 'em all against Chase, but they won some that they were just too small (or slow, in the case of Dirty Dan) to defend.
Charvarious Ward was good defending his turf against the outside running game, but now the entire secondary are like assassins in run support. They run through WR blocks like hot knives through butter. And they get up to the line FAST from over 10 yards. Enough team speed, training, and communication to line up one way and play an entirely different way.
Amazing what they did with that DB group. KC's gotta guard their assistant coaches well, or lose them! Amazingly talented and smart group of young men to start with. Veach is hitting in the middle rounds on small-school guys nobody seems to have heard of.

Early on, first 2 years when Matt started reporting, I noted Matt gave Mitch 100% of his attention and Mitch typically cast his attention forward when Matt spoke. I was raised to pay attention (ears AND eyes) to the person I'm conversing with. Overtime, I felt Matt looked upon Mitch with reverence, like he was delighted to be there. Possibly quite a dumb thing to comment on 😅, but I wanted to be positive and remark on how awesome this reporting team has become.
