  • I picked up this 1976 Yamaha XS-650 for $200. to build a little cafe racer.
I changed the handlebars to clubman bars. I added Vans gum grips, LED turn signals. I added a seat hoop, fabricated a seat pan from a pizza box & an old street sign. I replaced the flat front tire with a vintage style tire as well as buying a gas tank on eBay. It was a fun build that will serve as a "shop prop" until I finish the mechanical side of the project.

Damn was just getting interested I wanted to see you start her up again nothing is more satisfying than taking a junk yard bike and building it back up so it can ride the streets again

Rule of thumb: always rebuild carbs when doing a project. It's a simple peace of mind that can save you from headaches later.

Youve got alot of faith. Buying an air filter before it even runs. Keep the old shocks

Good ol’ Japanese bikes will take so much neglect and rarely disappoint. I would have totally made sure it ran first.

Its ass backwards to me. Spend all that cash and time and you dont even know the state of the motor? I guess if you have an open budget you can do that. Also try a 'Brat; or Scrambler style. Cafe Racers are over done.

He Bought it for $200. Regardless of the state of the engine, even if you have to rebuild the entire engine it’s still worth it.
