Real Dude here !!! No lies just straight up how it is, keep up the good work Stu !!!!!!
Oh boy! the moments when you forget to actually put in the part you we’re changing. Nice editing, glad you kept it in there!
This dude is real...totally relate to this guy....Thank You for making it.
Thank you for your video! I'm amazed my van seems to be fixed!! Thank you God for helping me, and thank YOU for sharing this wonderful video!!
It is incredibly satisfying to see him screw up over and over since that is what my reality always ends up being. It's like watching myself work. Except my knuckles are not bleeding...
Thanks for posting -and including mistakes. Seeing tiger mistakes helps others avoid them.
Freaking awesome.. Best laugh I've had in a while 😅 and helpful.. Thanks for the honest install. It always takes me 3 times longer to repair than it should!
The dimples are to line up the thermostat, then turn to lock in place. To remove the old one you simply twist & remove.
Thank you
NIce job and I am glad you had the problems and addressed them very well for us novices. Keep up the good work and I will keep you in mind if I need other fixes for my Dodge Grand Caravan (which for other viewers) is the same as your Town & Country and Plymouth Grand Voyager as well. Happy fixing !
great video , help me a lot ..i have no idea how to start to replace thermostat this really helps..thank you
Thanks for posting and including mistakes. It's not always "ChrisFix" easy. I have a very similar video on this.
Great video! You pointed out your mistakes and I thank you for that!! Appreciate your honesty and it really helped me😊😊😊👍👍
Tiny mechanic thank for caravan mechanic channels.
You got a good wife. Not a single word on how to do it right
I noticed that too.. I would have said "thank you for not criticizing me and for helping!"
Thanks for the video and thanks for the laugh! It's funny because I didn't even catch it until you said you forget the most important part, the thermostat! Lol, Cracked me up! We all can relate, buddy. Thanks.
Thanks for the kind words!
@@PirateStu I just got back in the house from replacing the thermostat in the wifes van. It's about -5° here but I didn't freeze my hands too bad because I felt like I knew what to expect. It never hurts to watch a how-to video before jumping in. It was pretty simple, and I took it for a little drive when I was done. It was steaming when I got back, so i looked under the hood and i can see that it lost some coolant somewhere on the back side of the motor. It appears to be on the drivers side and up high. I wonder if there's a frost plug back there.
@@bill218mn I wish I could help. On older engines they use hot water for all kinds of things, but I'm not sure about the newer engines. My first guess would be a hot water line used for the interior heater. Does having the heat on or off make a difference?
Just to be clear. You did NOT remove any antifreeze/coolant from the system to do this job? I learned twice as much watching this video because there were things forgotten. Happens all the time to the rest of us. Cheers. Vancouver, Canada
No, I didn't need to drain anything, because the thermostat was at the top of the engine, above the normal cold fluid level.
I like the csn tune in the background😎🎸✌👍
This was a nice video thank you so much for making this video and it was funny also 👏👏
Very nice. Looks so easy, even I can do it.
OUTSTANDING! Well done...✌👽🍺
spring always goes to engine
Absolutely great vid thanks
The gasket is what slowing me down I don't have the little sander
Thanks for the video, helped alot
you should of title this video how NOT to replace your thermostat hahahaha
I had the same problem with the tabs on the housing on my 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. Can't believe something they would do something so idiotic. A classic case of a car company wanting to make production quotas, make the sale, and then to hell with the owner.
It is easy to except when the intake manifold side is so pitted that there is not a good mating surface. I discovered this on an 06 Grand Caravan. Not sure what to do besides replace the entire lower manifold. The thermostat port is pitted as if it was eroded away. Hard to explain.
Good job, !!!!!!! ☺️☺️☺️
Thanks for the vid! I was planning to drain the coolant before I caught your vid-saved a lot of time. I didn’t think about the tricky tabs-I’ll watch out for them. BTW- I take it that you used a Felpro gasket but I don’t know what brand of thermostat you used.
It's been a while but I think I ordered the thermostat from Amazon and it came with a gasket.
Thanx! Its a big help. I don't know why the town and country is such a piece of crap.
would a bad thermostat be the cause of overheating? my fans running and there is no leaks
Yes. If the thermostat doesn't open up, the hot water from the engine can't make it's way to the radiator to be cooled.
+PirateStu1 ok thanks i took it completely off to see if it overheats it stays right in the middle sometimes below is that normal??
During the summer time, you really don't need a thermostat at all, so yes, what you are seeing is normal. During the winter, the thermostat keeps the water trapped in the engine until it get's hot enough and then the thermostat opens up and lets the water start flowing through the radiator. This is so that the engine gets to operating temperature quickly. It's also why your heater can blow hot air into your car.
thanks you are the man!
fast flowing water doesn't take the heat from the engine as well as slower moving so that's why its better to have a thermostat all year round
Thank you for this video..
Thanks! [Good Team Work : ) ]
Hello Pirate.
I replaced the thermostat of my Voyager 2003 based on your video. Thank you for have taken the time to make this video and share it. Additional I would like to question how often do you replace the radiator of your Voyager. I have replaced it twice almost each 8 monts.
Thank you.
Regards.
+Edgar Brito I traded my Town & Country in on a new one this year, but after 12 years the radiator was still good. 8 months is way too quick for a radiator to go bad. Was it a new or used radiator? Are they springing leaks or clogging up?
On mine thermostat... It was stamped right on it... This side toward rad.
this guy is funny
what if the coolant leaking from there..can I just replace and re-add coolant?
That would certainly be a start. Of course the question might be, what caused a leak?
i just replaceed one on my brothers van do we need to put sealant because now theres bubbles and leakage 🤦🏻♂️
If there is leakage from the thermostat housing, then you may need gasket sealer. If there are bubble in your radiator coolant, it could be from a head gasket leak, which is not a good thing!
Jajajaa I love this video... Dont forget why you do this video Lol!!
+PirateStu1 did you have to drain the radiator first?
+tswanigan69 You do not need to drain the radiator first. Since the thermostat is at the top of the cooling system, you will not loose any coolant when you remove the thermostat.
Great thanks for the info. PirateStu1
was looking for this question and answer, thanks.
Red white blue
Was this the 3.3 or the 3.8? Or does it matter?
It shouldn't matter.
what size are those bolts
Sorry, I don't know because I didn't need to know. If you need to know because you need to buy new ones, I just suggest you take the old one with you to a hardware store to find a match. Even if they don't sell the bolt you need, you can at least determine the thread type and size, and then order the right ones on line.
Do you foget to put the thermostat?
Yes, I do.
