Some cool things to do in a city is guerrilla grafting. There’s lots of non fruiting versions of fruit trees that get planted in a city, particularly pears and cherries. You can also replace a city planted tree with a fruit tree and make it look like the city planted it, or plant new ones and replicate the style and tags the city uses. So whoever is doing the maintenance will just think it’s supposed to be there.
“Guerrilla Grafting in the City” would make a fantastic workshop for people stuck in the city as you could demonstrate very specific examples of what combinations would work. Such a cool idea.
It is true. The county does not maintain land that is already maintained but they will tear it up to widen the road or put in gas or electric lines. I love the idea of gorilla gardening Billy!
Oh my word ! You READ my mind about the mowers. Living very rural it's not the bush hog I worry about. The " road cleanup crew " are county inmates & they are mad hackers of everything ! We put marking tape on our trees after a few scissorhands went through.
❤️. I was confident enough to share your playlist on to my small yt channel (18 days composting)... We left Austria almost 2 years ago (you know why 😉), bought a property in one village in Serbia and now we are starting homesteading. Wish us luck. Thanks! Wish you and your family ❤️❤️❤️❤️🍀🍀🍀
God bless you. You are encouraging modern day Johnny Appleseeds. Way to go. I grew up in the mid west harvesting windfall apples and storing to eat all winter. Good memories. Be careful with your plants. I was working my behind off trying to grow a garden, watering from the canal. One day I saw the county come by and spray the water for weed control. No wonder my plants wouldn't prosper. A few weeks later they came back and sprayed the front ditch and killed my shrubs. We have since moved to a more remote area with fewer "services". Love it!
I live in the ‘burbs. My neighborhood is filled with Bradford pears. So of course the woods nearby are full of wild callery pear seedlings. Last Spring I grafted on a bunch of those wild pears with Bartlett scions. So far I have another four pear trees. The woods are on a narrow strip of land and I am not even sure who owns it but it’s in between two neighborhoods. Can’t wait to see those pears grow.
In my conservative rural county in CA they do not take care of easements in neighborhoods. So why not plant perennials and trees that produce? My easement isn't big enough for more than medicinal wildflowers, but you can bet I will be doing it.
Only one thing that came to mind watching this, is, if one was to attempt to replicate, and the road is in a bend, be careful of planting stuff that when it grows up can obscure the view for traffic coming around the curve. The more farther around the curve you can see, the safer, especially on 2 wheels.
Billy you guys are always a blessing. My mom use to say you will do more good things with honey than vinegar when it comes to people. Your a great person and role model Billy. Keep up the good work and God bless you all
Around where I live they spray the road sides. I would be very leery of putting anything to eat where they might spray. Glad you don’t have to worry about it.
Starting more apples and pears from seed to plant near my wooded area. Deer will probably get them, but maybe not! (Will also slather with bone sauce if I don't run out)
As soon as you said use perineals in your guerrilla gardening it made sense to me because it require less work there for in that type of setting that would lend itself to blending in with nature much easier. Thank you guys for sharing this video with us. May you guys have a good one. Have fun take care
As usual my friend We've come away Wiser & Highly Encouraged! I LOVE so much that you plant Not only for yourselves but for nature & Other people! Truly the Heart of God!
As the immigration level keeps increasing, I believe this type of gardening is becoming increasingly important especially for those of us in central to southern US states. Thank you for building awareness to the importance of this.
I'm curious, as a Northerner I don't understand your point about immigration levels. Can you explain? I'm not asking in a hostile manner. Just wondering.
@@bnuggg 1,000s are coming across the Mexican border daily and with Title 42 to be lifted tomorrow it's going to become more. Texas and Arizona are being hit the hardest but eventually the saturation point will disperse them more. This has been happening for almost 2 years, since Biden took office. I'm not against immigration at all, but too many too fast is a sinking ship. Ronald Reagan once said, "A nation that cannot control its's borders is not a nation." And my point with th gorilla gardening knowledge is plant for them and plant for my family because it is coming and I think no state will be uneffected eventually.
@@monarchkitty Wow this was a much better response than I was expecting from your initial comment. Thank you for being a kind person. I was expecting something potentially nasty, but I was pleasantly surprised. Have a blessed Holiday and I wish you the best.

Thanks to you I am starting my orchard down our long lane. Where do you get your trees? In looking at what is available at the local stores or online, it will cost a fortune to do as many as I want and have room for.
Guerilla gardening is an excellent way of widening and enriching your Permaculture Zone 5 area. ie those places off your property you let be wild, and only minimally engage with sometimes Much like Billy here is doing, you can plant "set and forget" plants where you can get to them, but they dont need to be tended much, so you create places where you can "wild forage" abundant resources to pad your pantries or medicine cabinets. Ive been planting little feral patches of medicinal and edible plants all around my city in any nook or cranny i can find where I wont get caught
The property I just bought has a mature wild plum and producing pecan on the easement. I need to clean them up a bit. My plan is to include false indigo as well. Great video!
Hello Billy this Terminator from My Crooked Little Homestead, from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 I would like to ask you a question about apple trees where use to have my horses three years after giving them away I found two cluster of apple trees, three apple trees that have been growing in each cluster they are about 8 ft tall is there something I can do to help them produce is there any advice you can give me. I would have to start it in the spring because we are in full winter and there is about 6 inches of snow on the ground thank you and God bless
This looks like a lot of work/money(tree, mulch etc) for something that you could easily loose. Seems like something you’d really only want to do if you’re not out any money

Good way to practice grafting as well.

I love it when you talk Guerrilla to me...
Rather than “productive tree” you could say one is a crop tree and the other is a fodder/utility tree. Just a thought. Love the work. Keep it up.
Thank you so much!

How much are apple trees these days? I used to buy fruit trees for $16.
Everything is through the roof, my friend!
You're doing God's work, my friend.
Rules are only for when people complain
Yeah folks need to keep a neat appearance or they cut or worse spray those areas.😢
Put prairie restoration signs up and the mowers won’t mow tall grass.
I'd love some fruit trees also but way to expensive for me. And most of them you need 2.
Just found a comment on another channel that made me chuckle. “Zhou Biden”
Love it my friend!
Are you worried about the county spraying the roadside and contaminating the fruit?
Maybe they don't talk about it, because they don't want you to know they are doing it and where it is?
You might be right my friend!
I need a freeze dryer rental?
That will be beautiful when mature
Excited to see how they turn out!

Unlike your "fruit bearing" trees.
Don’t plant trees where it can block view of traffic
