  • The Alldaq ADQ-USB on review here offers galvanic separation and cleaning up the power line. There also is a provision for an external power supply if more current is needed. (subtitled in English and Dutch - Nederlands ondertiteld).

    I got a similar one called Intona without the need of DC powered, and used it to connect to my hdvd800 but I find the sound is a bit tense and less enjoyable to my taste, I much prefer the Schiit Wyrd with some good quality USB cable(Supra in my case)I guarantee you wouldn't hear any noise even you turn the volume control to the max.

      There is no need for a power supply, it's a bonus you could use to further improve the set up.

    What do you mean when you say the sound is "more relaxed" - I can understand if you say good frequensy response, no distortion, clean sound, good seperation and so on but how is a sound relaxed ?

      Audiophile lingo, sorry. When there are a lot of errors in the time domain, it makes a stressful sound, a sound you (or at least I) can't read a book by. If all goes very well in the time domain, and that's less often than you might think, this stress is absent. We then speak of a relaxed sound. Try reading a book while playing music at 70 dB SPL(A) and see if you can concentrate well enough on the book to enjoy the story.

    Hi thanks a lot for the very interesting review. Have you tried also the Alldaq ADQ between an off-the-shelf lap top/pc and the Chord dac ? i have the feeling that galvanic isolation between source and dac is very important. Maybe that is the key point. Clock precision with usb transfer depends entirely on the final dac and i guess the Chord is a kind of masterpiece in this regard. And so the sound.

    I am thinking whether I need the version with an external power supply: I wish to use it with by laptop and the Meridian Explorer2. This DAC may draw up to 500 mA. Since you have tested both this and the Meridian, did you try them together?

      No, I haven't

      @@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannelAre you running the Alldaq isolator with an external power supply?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  5 лет назад +1

      I abandoned the Alldaq when I bought the SOtM network bridge. Whether an external power supply improves the sound quality depends on the computer (or network bridge/streamer) and the DAC.

    Thank you for your reviews, this is honest hard work. I am using an iFi iPurifier2 between my dac and my Raspberry Pi and it makes a big difference in my system. I wonder if adding and usb isolator like Alldaq in the chain would have any meaning. I am already using an iFi Power supply for the Raspberry Pi.

      The isolator solves the problem of ground loops and dirty power supplies. If you have one of these as a problem, this is the solution.

    Vs USB regen iso the gold standard?

    Sounds like the digital cables with the F11K option to improve sound. Its digital either works or it does not work.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  8 лет назад +1

      I wish it were. The problem is dat digital signals are transported using analogue signals. See 'How digital can go wrong": ruclips.net/video/grzoqEb2KMk/видео.html

      I may sympathize with your position with USB1, but any signals I have seen with USB 2.0 or higher I have not seen the any issues. If this were a problem the issue would be all across the computer industry and clearly this is not the case. I have looked at audio designs and have found there designs less than optimal on the digital side. It seems it is only the audio industry having issues. For computer audio the main issues are a non-real time OS and very poor drivers making the issue worse.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  8 лет назад +1

      Well, there is one little difference between using a computer for audio and using it for anything else: time. Timing errors of tens of microseconds are proven to be audible (by researchers, not by audio companies). That explains why the artifacts I explained in de video I suggested to you are audible. This phenomenon is called jitter and is world wide accepted as a valid cause of distortion since the early nineties. And, there you are right, drivers and poor OS configurations can cause this too.

    Hello from India!! I keep following your posts and have decided on the Pi3 and the Hifiberry DG+. Then when I saw this product , I suddenly thought "Will it improve a Pi3's USB" ?
    Request you for a follow up comparison on the below if possible.
    1. LPS+Pi+ DG+ vs LPS+Pi+ ADQ-USB
    2.LPS+Pi+ ADQ-USB vs microrendu

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  8 лет назад +1

      It doesn't improve nothing, it's like border control, bad volts from Pi country are not allowed into DAC country. But since a HiFiBerry DG+ isn't connected to the USB, bad volts do not have to pass USB border control and thus can enter the DG+. If you want to improve the sound, improve the power supply. I am working an a review of power supplies.

    How does it compare to something like a jitterbug?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  8 лет назад +2

      It all depends on the situation where it is applied. It is impossible to give general rules or general judgements. Sorry.

      7 years later, my Intona 7055-C isolator beats my AQ JitterBug FMJ by a *HUGE* margin. Better in every way, every area of performance. Intona is so much better, I actually no longer view the AQ JitterBug FMJ as a "good value" because it only delivers maybe 10% of the performance of the Intona.

    Hello, I see people talking about using these devices to decrease noise in digital audio signals to a USB DAC, that just sounds like complete garbage to me, by that logic a portable program transfered over usb would never work after it was copied since it needs to be a perfect binary copy, but the timing aspect for jitter reduction sounds more plausable,even the with extremely high transfer rates and asynchronous clocks in the DACs It still doesn't seem likely it would make much a difference at all. I imagine an actual test to see if this works to improve a digital audio signal would be to use it on a USB drive on a computer with very little going on in the background and test if this device speeds up file transfers or not.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  7 лет назад

      Did you try it?

    • @OGmolton1
      @OGmolton1 7 лет назад

      no sir, i don't have one of them, I would if I did. I'm not super familiar with the exact technical ways file transfers occur, but I imagine there is some kind of crc check to make sure the file is copying correctly. If there is infact no crc check or something going on during a file transfer, than I would say that device probably does nothing more than protect sensitive circuitry or protect the computer from errors/problems with prototypes

      Thanks, that does make sense, I thought there had to be some kind of error correction going on

      You ever use Active PFC motherboards and power supplies? That probably helps the integrity of the signals. That might be a good topic to explore for your channel, I don't see much on it.
