    You could use the seed phrase words and write them in to a story using a seed word every 4th word. You could store that in the cloud with other stories to disguise it...
    I also write my seed phrase in backwards order just in case .... Just a thought ....

    So many times, we think about the benefits of a product rather than the ramifications of buying that product (a sign of the times I guess). I didn't really think about the angle of a government or other unsavory types hacking the company's customer list and knowing who bought the product. It's not like this rarely happens. It happens every day! This is a cost effective, efficient and elegant solution to the problem. John Chow - Thank you!

    Great video and great advice. Is it fire resistant? What is it's melting point?I just looked it up, in the hottest part of a bushfire the temperature reaches 1600C at its peak, this is where the vegetation is turned into gas and the explosion occurs, so basically the capsules will melt and seed phrase is gone, The hottest flames are 1100C so no problem there. The 304 Stainless Steel washers are good for 1399°C - 1454°C. So a little less than the capsule but in the end both will melt in the hottest part of a bushfire or house fire. Simple just keep 2 capsules in separate spots.

    I like that idea. Another tip to save time would be to only stamp the first four letters. Most seed phrases are BIP39. Also you could use a cipher for your words so if anyone found your backup they still wouldn't know the words unless they had the lock.

    FOLKS!
    1. get 4 steel wheel plates 2-3 mm thick with 10mm hole in the middle for a bolt.
    2. you can adjust diameter of plates for your needs!
    plate 1- 86mm diameter
    plate 2 - 74mm diameter
    plate 3 - 62mm diameter
    plate 4 - 49mm diameter
    3. lay them on top of each other like pyramid the biggest at the bottom
    4. divide them into 24 section 15degres each with marker pen.
    5. stamp in every section of each ring one character on each plate from outside in or the opposite as you like with 4 characters for each word.
    6. when you are done put it together with a 10mm bolt and when all words are readable make a tiny incision on the edge of each plate, where ever you like, and remember what is the RIGHT position of these incisions because this your - KEY TO YOUR SEED!
    count self how many combinations of the incisions in right order/positions there is when you have:
    4 rows with 24 characters in each row, and the all 4 incisions must be in right order/position. tell me if i'm wrong ha! ha!

      @@TreyMcClain1 hey, I ended up buying the parts but haven't gotten the jig to actually complete it cuz I've been considering getting a 3d printer. I got the 35mm bolts, the nut is 6mm, and the washers are 2mm each. It can fit 15 washers with the nut up on the edge. I went with 12+2. 12 front and back and then 2 extras as a cover. If you want to go 24+2 then I'm guessing you need 60mm bolts or bit longer if available (at 58mm the nut would be up on the edge).

      @@-GonZo Thanks for the response! I plan to go front and back, so I'll probably go with 35mm. Just wondering how the shorter length will do in the capsule, as I like the idea of storing them in there. What is your thoughts on splitting your 24 word seed backup into 3 parts 8 words each.... A B C. You keep A & B on one DIY backup, A & C on another and B & C on a third. Keep in separate locations and would guard against physical theft or spying as they would need 2 out of 3 to get all 24 words

    • @MotoTTZ
      @MotoTTZ  3 года назад

      I do not recommend that. If you want to do something like that, then use a Shamir Backup.

    • @BlackHeartScyther
      @BlackHeartScyther 2 года назад +1

      Yeah not recommended, if you want to split the key into different locations, use Shamir or a multisig wallet. By splitting the key as you describe, you reduce the security of your recovery words. So if somebody found one of your 3 stashes they could just brute force the remaining words very quickly and not need to find any other stash.

    • @vicpinto1970
      @vicpinto1970 2 года назад +3

      @@BlackHeartScyther As opposed to when all the seed works are together and no brute force is needed? How does that make any sense?

    • @EileenTheCr0w
      @EileenTheCr0w 2 года назад +1

      @@vicpinto1970 True haha.. but I think the better point is, that if you're going to create duplicates for added security, there are better ways of doing it like the Shamir method. You could also do something clever to trick any would be thief.. here's another idea, pull up the full word list for your key type, like bip-39, and instead of using your real words on your backup washers, use the words above or below it in the list by some metric.
      So if I made this I would only have to memorize that i need to subtract my word list by 4. So if my backup said the word "again" (38th word) the real word is "aerobic" (34th) and so on for each word in the backup. If they find and try to import your wallet, they'll think they have everything they need, but it simply wont work and they'll know you did something but not what. If they somehow know you used this method, they still have no idea by what plus or minus they need to shift the backup list to solve it, and there are like 5000 different possibilities so they'd need to create a bot to try each possible shift to brute force in. You could also scramble them in a non-uniform way drastically adding to the difficulty, as long as you can for sure memorize the method and not write it down obviously anywhere.. like first letter will shift up by one, next down by 2, next up by 3, etc.. whatever you want that isn't easy to guess but is easy to remember yourself.
      Honestly I think unless we've got many millions $ in crypto and some serious enemies like the government or crime bosses then the regular backup is probably fine, but it is fun to come up with ideas for worst case scenarios. Also if you die and there is real money there, you want to pass it down and your spouse or kids won't get the money if you make it hard to decipher.
