I don't mean to downplay any other person that has narrated this wonderful vessel - BUT, you have a natural way of describing everything about this craft.. as complete as I've ever seen. I'm going to look into this complete blue water vessel. This craft fits my purpose to a T. Thank you Jeff.

In order to appreciate this boat you have to understand what she is, and what she's intended to do. She's not a sailboat. She's a MOTOR-sailer. Jeff Merrill, who has done some great videos on this boat that are here on youTube, named her correctly. She's really a trawler-sailer. She can do everything that a regular Nordhavn trawler can do with the added enjoyment and economy of off-wind sailing capability.
Wanna daysail? Don't choose this boat. Coastal cruising? Nope. She's really too slow for that. BUT. Wanna go anywhere in the world that can be reached by blue water? Now you're talkin'! This boat is a passagemaker. If you, your wife, and another couple want to explore the oceans of the world in consummate comfort and safety, and want the pleasure and satisfaction of sailing thrown-in, I doubt there is a better boat for you than this.
How many sailing yachts under 60-ft. would you really feel confident and secure in taking across the Atlantic non-stop? In any weather? Not many, I suspect-if you're honest. Take a look at your choices and think about it. This boat will take you there and beyond. Her range on power alone is about 3000 nm. When you figure-in the marvelous Hundested prop system and the sailing rig, she could easily go 6000 nm or more without touching land, if you have the provisions. There isn't another boat under 100 ft. that can do that with as much safety and comfort, as far as I can see, sail or power.
Unfortunately, this superb boat hasn't been generally appreciated by the yachting public and has been one of Nordhavn's few disappointments as far as sales are concerned. That's a shame. Nordhavn had planned to build a larger 68-ft. version of this boat, but those plans have been cancelled due to the soft sales of the 56MS. Another shame.
It has been my dream for years to sail from San Diego to Hawaii and then on to Tahiti non-stop and the other islands of French Polynesia. I've been to the island of Moorea, the sister island of Tahiti, twice and it's indescribably beautiful This boat is one of the very few that are manageable by a cruising couple and even remotely affordable that I would consider doing it on. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I agree, for the most part with everything you stated. But I think the reason the "Motorsailer" wasn't successful was it's price point. At around 2 million, you could get a lot more boat for your money. I feel that the larger 68 MS would have made more sense, especially for very long ocean crossings where you might feel cramped in the relatively small 56.

evan002 I don't see how you could get a "lot more boat for your money." I doubt you could get another 50-60 ft boat, especially a motorsailer, that would give you the same blue-water capability and safety that the Nordhavn 56MS would. Care to name me a few?
This boat is designed for a maximum of four people and has two very spacious cabins with ensuite heads. She has two settees in the saloon/pilot house and a seating area adjacent to the galley. You can also sit out on the aft deck or in the sailing cocpit. What makes you think two couples would feel cramped in this boat? Have you actually done any long ocean passages?

I think I would rather have a Garcia Exploration 52 or a Boreal 50-something footer and keep the extra million dollars plus to sail around the world a few times. Sure, you don't have quite as much storage, but I would rather have the 1 meter draft and the ability to beach it. They don't lose anything to the trawler-sailer in terms of bluewater performance either, and might actually be superior, especially if you want to sail higher latitudes. I guess it all depends upon how much stuff you need to take with you. If you can't live without every creature comfort of home, the trawler is probably the better choice.

I have watched these videos a number of times When I have the finances, this boat will be top of the list to order. I will order the single guest stateroom, load it up with state of the art electronics, provision, and put out to sea. I do not know how to sail so will have to hire a captain for a while, and that's ok. With the potential range of this boat, the safety, and comfort, I will be exploring, looking for a small uninhabited island in the South Pacific to call home, and live the dream. Come on Powerball!

excellent boat - super vessel ---- one suggestion, maybe take a look at some other hatch vendors. You want hatches that have metal hasps not plastic, and it's very important to have good hatches - very important. They are one of the component parts that keeps the blue water on the OTHER side of the hull .........

Great tour! Will you be posting more videos to complete the tour? I'm very interested to see how how the main is fed up the mast; that boom is awfully high up!

Jeff, I'm not crazy I just came across a MS by Nordhavn it was a 35 not 56. The Nordhavn web page makes no mention of this boat

Since winches and furlers are hydraulic where does the pressure come from when the engine is off?

do nordhavn produce jet powered boats ,or are jets no good in openwater.
    thanks

They don't make any jet boats because all of their boats have displacement hulls. For a slow moving vessel a propeller is more efficient and much easier to repair in the middle of an ocean.
