I never get tired of hearing stories about the old days! Maybe because that is because I'm old, lol! 🤣 If I'm thinking it's the same company, Disston made a lot of high quality hand tools back in the day.
Very interesting... I like working on old things I know very little about. That is the challenge . I have a Homelite MCS-20 (?) that needs some tending to. Very little info to go on. Looking forward to see these Mercury saws run.
Might get a kick out of watching video of Glen Wooldridge running Hell's Gate on the Frasier River in his outboard jet sled. He was first to run many NW rivers. Father of the Rogue River, he was raised in GrantsPass Oregon. Understand when Argosy Magazine did an article on him he was using a Johnson motor. They sent him a Mercury, they may have "tuned it up"a little too, I understand. It was free. Cheers
Disston Company in Phila PA was the premier hand saw maker from the early 19th through the mid 20th centuries. Their pre-WWII handsaws are highly prized by woodworkers. I have a couple of them in my woodworking shop. Subsequently, they were bought up by large companies and actually still exist in name only today. Not surprised that Mercury branded their power saws through Disston back in the day. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disston_Saw_Works
Hey Donny my buddy and I were just studying up on old Mercury outboard motors he found at an estate sale , and I sent him a link to the new merc outboard v12 motors that are outstanding , he then sent me a link to some Mercury sew on patches for jackets with the Mercury outboard Keikaufer name on it Pretty cool hope you find out some more info about the Mercury saws Have a excellent weekend Scott
