Sorry to snag it from you, but if nothing else this is a sign for you to go out and buy one haha! In hindsight I should have waited and tried to find one with the factory DCC and Sound as I watched a demo and they sound incredible.
@@gopernoperstrains3160 yeah, they really do. I think there's one on eBay right now in the NYO&W livery. But it might not have the factory sound installed, it's been a while since I saw the listing.
I'd say Bachmann is almost always worth the price. They have great detail on their models. That said sometimes they release a flop, but hey, what company doesn't every once in a while? Immaculate model.
I had one, that I decced out as a Soo Line N class, as delivered. My issue with it was, that even on 40" curves it still looked wonky. They are also VERY light on their feet. I put my FVM Hiawatha consist behind it (1 Baggage, Parlor, 3 Coach, Tap Cafe and Beaver Tail) and on a .5% grade and watched it slip it's drivers. As it entered the club curves it would slip it's drivers too. I ended up selling it for a couple of reasons, 1. to get it to pull my fast milk run (a Bachmann hvy weight passenger consist of 1 Combine, an Observation, and 5 Branchline express reefers it couldn't even pull that.) would have meant tearing it apart to add more weight, and when I googled how to do it, was more work than I wanted to try, and 2.) the more I thought about it, the loco didn't match my expectations or what I wanted to do with the layout. That said, with just the 2 Bachmann hvy weights it ran fine, just looked odd with only two cars.
Does the tender still derail, or have you fixed it or something? I currently have a bachmann spectrum heavyweight set and the diner car keeps derailing. Nice train though!
Wait a minute, you bought it not knowing if it was or wasn't DCC?? There is a major price difference!! Then ya didn't look at the end of the box label to see, then ya need to look at the bottom of the loco or tender to see if dcc is printed on it? WTH??? And ya also didn't know it had sound either? And now after the first 3 minutes, ya what me to watch the rest? Really?
I bought it “not knowing” because these engines have an 8 pin DCC plug inside and the seller stated the engine had been modified. However they didn’t care to mention what had been done. If you’d continued watching you’d see the seller had installed a terrible botch job “sound” decoder in it that I removed and replaced with a DC plug. This video was primarily filmed to show the unpacking and testing process in case it was damaged in shipping. Thought to share it so people could see first runs. I intended to make a full video on it later but comments like yours and a general lack of time discourage me from doing so.

Wow, that's purdy. I love the couple of Bachmann Spectrum engines that I own.
What a beauty. I have a brass model of sister engine 547 and I have to say the Bachmann model is pretty accurate to the prototype.

My most expensive loco is a brass N scale PRR T1 by Samhongsa. 2900.00 mint.

This is not a split axle model. They didn’t make 4-8-2’s with that chassis design.
