I disagree with the comments that Rem shouldn't get her memories back. Imagine if Subaru didn't get his back; his character growth wouldn't have been so impactful. Rem needs to come to terms with her current self (after more arc 7 development) AND her old true self and use those lessons to grow as a character. Rem needs to be aware of her growth!
Thats what im saying, taking her memories away isn't solving her issues its just removing them entirely so she doesn't get the chance to develop. Not only that but it would just feel like Subaru's efforts were all for nothing, his main goal for the past 3 arcs was to get Rem back, if Rem stayed without her memories it will be like Subaru didn't really save Rem since the old rem would be gone forever which I fined terrible.
Yes! That’s exactly what my thoughts are. Rem will undergo similar treatment like Subaru did in arc 6 chapter 73 & 74 and cast her old unhealthy habits away and look towards the future while still having this better mutual love relationship with Subaru. I mean, it would suck if she still didn’t love him even though he’s done so much just to save her. It’s no different than Emilia.(especially since Rem is considered a heroine too)
Rem losing memories is literally like she died...which is sad....i want my rem back...but i would be great if the current rem gets memories of her old self which current memories intact.....those 2 personalities will be mixed together and result will be a great character development
@@gelatogremlin like Subaru arc did in arc 6 chapter 73 & 74 when he casted his old self. She will still have feelings for him either way when she knows how much he has done for her.
We'll most likely never get a Rem that is too much like her old self, but this lets her continue on as a developing character, not a drawing that is overly obsessed. We'll probably get something enjoyable from Rem's character whether she looks at her on feelings or doesn't.
Because Rem has no memories she’s forced to build herself up based on who she really is. It feels like we and Subaru are really getting to know her without any special treatment. Personally I love this. It feels as if now their relationship can really grow for both of them, not just in a one sided way. Much healthier, much more satisfying. Her role in arc 7 just gives her so much continued progress in the future.
@K1ll3trs "She is insane" bro did you even watch the video you're commenting under? What part of her actions in Arc 7 make her insane? What part of her actions back in Arcs 2 and 3 make you think that she was perfectly sane back then and that it's a good idea to revert her?
@No Name She spends a large amount of time every night watching him sleep. That level of obsession would bleed into other areas of their relationship. Again, I'm speaking from experience.
@@thermophile1695 I can’t guarantee I wouldn’t fall in love with someone like Rem, someone whom I grew close to and saved and someone who saved me. As for dating them, I’m not too sure. I wouldn’t really know what to do. Even if we go by the Rem IF, Rem never really got over her insecurities. In fact, her own son is the one to address them.
REM’s character progression could prove that the people who lost their memories thanks to the gluttony trio could have better lives or live closer to their ideal lives if they take advantage of the fresh start. You could say they could start from 0
Maybe in arc 7, she will get characterization that would give her her own personality, even if she gets her memories in the future. That would be interesting to observe
Hm... I honestly kinda like Arc 7 Rem. I do like how it was Subaru deciding to abandon Louis (which makes sense from his perspective) was what made her decide to run away from him, not her just automatically assuming he's no good due to his scent like she did in Arc 2 (which he didn't even know about until then). I'm honestly looking forward to seeing how she'll turn out as Arc 7 goes on...
i wouldnt have abandoned louis since she is a child but will be on guard of course. she knew that killing me or rem will be pointless so we should be failry safe
Did someone else noticed how much everything that Rem did in arc 3 reflect Subaru in arc 2 in the mabeast part? and the oposite is also true. Subaru saved Rem from being attacked by the dogs and Rem didn't bring Subaru to the attack of the witch cult in the mansion, Subaru enter the forest to save Rem that has lost her mind and Rem goes after Subaru that has being kidnapped by the witch's cult, Subaru uses himself as bait to Rem and Ram escape the big dog and Rem uses herself as bait to Subaru escape the whale, and then finally when Rem was being crushed by her inferiority and lack of power(and yes in her head she basically was just a weight and was only being saved) Subaru saved her from herself and in episode 18 well you know what i meant. Re:Zero just can't stop surprising me when i think i know everything it's just make itself better.
And the fact that she watched him sleep and after that he watched her sleep lmao. I feel like these role reversals/foreshadowings are just proof of them ending in marriage
@@mistadrew7513 nah rem allready got her own route so emilia will be the one who ended up with subaru in the main story (also tappei himself is the biggest emilia simp)
@@lordtouchme77 My main problem with the Sloth IF is it meant Rem abandoned everything, including her sister. I just want Auntie Ram, okay? No one wants to give me that. Even Sloth IF wouldn’t give me that.
Both in Crusch and Rem's cases Subaru noticed that people who lost memories still remain themselves. In a sense, they take their social masks off. That's why I don't think arc 2-3 Rem and arc 7 Rem are different people, we only get to see her actual character unbound. Rem had always had both sharp mind and sharp tongue, much like her sister, which you can see from her compliments to Subaru containing heavy doses of sugar-coated criticisms. Yeah, past arc 2 Rem has been clearly obsessed with Subaru, though still managed to be subtle about it. Well, at least Subaru took it for friendliness until it was too late. But I would not go as far as call in a sickness (considering all the other mental issues she has, I could call it a cure). After all, she managed to refuse his offer and put his future before her desires. If I were to name the biggest problem Rem has, it would be her always sacrificing herself for others, never asking for what she wants for herself. Though she got more assertive after that scene by the Flugel's Tree. That said, I do like arc 7 Rem more, and I wish she gets her memories back and has a good long conversation with Subaru on truly being herself.
Her refusal of Subaru was mostly because she didn't think Subaru did (or would) love her, and because she didn't think that she deserved happiness. That means that of her two character traits, her obsession and self-loathing, it's just due to the second rather than the first as everyone thinks. Also, I'll put in a quote from the snow OVA: R: Don't worry, I'll just help myself by looking at sleeping Subaru's face a little longer than normal tonight. S: Huh? Did you say something creepy? R: No, I don't think I did. If you wanna try to call that subtle, knock yourself out.
I don't think Subaru ever once took Rem's attitude for mere friendliness. He assumed it was an emotional dependence and delusion rather than actual love. And From Zero was to show that no, it was actual love.
Bro she refused his offer because of her own idealizing the Subaru in front of her wasn't being the Subaru she knows and refuses to accept the Subaru in front of her, fast FORWARD to Emilia in arc 6 EXACT same situation but worse ( no subaru memories) and she isn't doing what Rem said but instead helped him properly to accept who he is instead of what his dumb accomplishments were and being some false thing that is why "Please tell me you're name" IS VERY IMPORTANT
@@Gorrillagun Subaru can't tell the difference between love and just mere obsession and dependence, he thinks it's just deep love and devotion but it's just opposite. he didn't think it was emotional dependency and Subaru didn't know during that time that her entire love for him is based on him being a Hero, something he has problem with which is called White knight Syndrome that Rem has enabled him which only way for Subaru to keep pushing for Emilia during that time....only way for him to be in that spot to tell himself he hates himself is a character like rem that has these problems to keep pushing his own delusions......ya Tappei can go pretty deep
I dont think Arc 7 Rem is better than old Rem yet. However the potential is definitely there. I feel like this Rem is somewhat like Emilia before the Trials. She hasnt confronted her past yet. She lost her memories and because of it she is going to grow as a person. I have no idea where Tappei is going to take this but I cant wait. Re Zero fundamentally is about seeing people overcome hardship and become better people and I cant wait to see Rem get it. She had a flash of it in Arc 2 where she overcame her inferiority complex to her sister but it really just transferred a lot of those unhealthy emotions to Subaru. However I dont think that the person she was before was bad. I have a feeling Tappei is going to combine the best of Rem in Arc 7 and the best of Arc 1-3 Rem and make an amazing character out of her.
Well in order for this to happen, She needs to let go of Subaru and allow Subaru to start commiting to Emilia because right now Subaru is still warped with the arc 3 Rem that he thinks he "needs"
In a story about self love i think it would be the greatest insult if Rem was not given the chance to love and find value in herself rather then having her problems Removed. On the topic of arc 3 Rem vs arc 7 Rem Rem was always a caring person she died in the court yard in episode 14 trying to protect the children from the witch cult. She also always was a bit impulsive but she doesn't have any trama of the witch in her arc 7 state so you wouldn't expect her to go to the same lengths.
That’s a good point. People keep saying she sacrificed herself for Subaru repeatedly, but at least in the first loop, she didn’t sacrifice herself for Subaru, she sacrificed herself to protect the children.
@@Haseo8 No in that loop she still sacrificed herself for Subaru hence why she just left him there and again during the whale and again during the cave she was happy to die for him instead of just not being impulsive since given her speed she could of gotten the emilia camp and dealt with witch cult easily. She knew she would die over and over and she doesn't care all in the name of her hero Subaru. This is why Subaru needs to let go of this fantasy of his being a Hero and Rem needs to stop enabling his own white knight syndrome which is reasons why he cannot possibly love himself or even start to because his entire worth is being that Hero, no being Hero he can't be Emilia knight, he can't find strength basically he can't do shit and this is where Emilia comes in hell he can't even properly form relationship with Emilia because of this always thinking he isn't being enough of a hero to be worthy of loved by Emilia. I know you ain't fan of Emilia but Emilia and Satella are ones that will truly help Subaru that's just how story is going and why arc 6 with their talk is so much more better and healthy compare to rem's speech that just enabled his own complex
@@peppermint3808 Hm, there’s a lot of assumption and wrong here. First of all, I like Emilia just fine, so there’s no issue there. Rem is impulsive, it’s part of her character flaw. She acts on emotion rather than thought. I don’t see how the first loop is sacrificing herself for him. They were headed to the mansion anyway. This was one of the few times she did use her head. What in the world could Subaru do? Bringing him there would be the same as throwing a baby into the lion’s den. The whale, honestly, there was no other recourse. If they were all gonna die, she’s rather it’d be just her instead of her and Subaru. Keep in mind, at this point she still considers her life expendable and worthless. As long as Subaru can get to Emilia, he’ll forget about her and move on. That was her very wrong mentality. She was Ali aware of her actual worth. Again, listen, I’m sorry, Rem is still just as important to Subaru as Emilia. He needs everyone. Like someone who will tell him not to give up. That is in fact something he needs to keep going. The reason Rem’s speech is so powerful is partly because Rem has been in Subaru’s position. I would also like to say his being a hero isn’t a fantasy, it is a reality. What do you think a hero is? The reason Rem sees him as a hero is because of his weaknesses and flaws. A true hero is someone who won’t hesitate to do what’s right. That despite their shortcomings, their fears, they’ll continue to do what’s right in their heart, and Subaru has displayed that numerous times. That’s why he is Rem’s hero. He was giving up, and Rem was the only person in the world who would tell him to keep going and not give up while no one else expected anything of him. Because of REM’s speech, he managed to find the strength to keep going and arrive at Emilia’s side. The reason he was able to talk to Emilia the way he did in Arc 4 was because of Rem’s words, he even references that. Whenever he’s about to give up, he frequently thinks back to Rem’s words. I don’t discredit Emilia, she’s been an incredible influence on Subaru and one of his main driving forces. But so has Rem. I know you’re not a fan of Rem, but the least you can do is acknowledge her worth and importance to Subaru. Also don’t know why you’re bringing up Emilia. Never mentioned her. I always make it a point to not mention Emilia when I’m defending or talking about Rem, unless it’s relevant to my point, even then, I never talk bad about her, ever. Also Rem being the one to go into the cave and save Subaru herself, this also goes into the maid mentality she has. Subaru is in HER care. SHE is the one who has been tasked with looking after Subaru. So she deems it her duty to not only aid him, but die for him. Ram is also the exact same way. She will happily die for Roswaal. As long as they can fulfill their duty, that’s all that matters. So that just goes into the kind of world that is as well as their upbringing. That’s not Rem propping up Subaru on a pedestal. That’s her maid training. In service to Roswaal, she and Ram are fully expected to give their lives for their duty, that’s just how Roswaal raised them.
@@Haseo8 She probably thought if she got the village children killed, Subaru will probably be mad at her that's why she protected them. I think so because Rem in arc 2 was literally going to leave the children to die because she didn't care about anybody as long as her sister is safe.
I want Rem to regain her memories, but I also want her to go on a journey to discover her own personality and learn to love Subaru or even herself more healthily
As much as I love arc 2/3 Rem, I love Rems current arc. (Even if she was really annoying during the first few chapters.) And even if this would hurt to find out, I feel like it would be better for both Rem and Subaru’s characters if Rem never gets her memories back. Rem because she can get past her issues with obsessing and idolizing people, finally becoming her own person (this could be shown by her wearing her own new outfit at the end of the arc), and Subaru because it could nail in the fact that the person who helped him at his lowest point, is technically awake, but she’s also gone forever, and there’s no fixing it like he’s been trying to do for the last 3 arcs, and he will always have to live with that guilt. (But I would still be happy either way if she got her memories back.)
The thing is that would really be getting over her issues, that’s flat out erasing them. Also if she never gets her memories back I would pretty much never be able to actually see her fight again, since she doesn’t remember any of how to. I’d also have to accept Crusch can never get her memories back either. Her never get to g her memories back would also destroy her and Ram, I also can’t accept no one ever remembering her either. I loved Rem and Ram’s relationship as well, so that means that would have to disappear forever. No teary reunions, no nothing. Rem would essentially be dead, which she doesn’t deserve, after everything she’s been through. I want her to finally be happy, with herself and her life. That happiness honestly doesn’t mean much if it’s gotten through erasing her.
@@Haseo8 I agree with you on all of this. I want arc 3 Crusch back. (Especially after read ex vol 1.) I want those teary reunions. I also want Rem to fuck some shit up with morning star. But I feel like it could go either way, and I’m so excited to see what happens
@@creativeyoutubename3175 Honestly, I trust Tappei. He hasn’t disappointed me so far, even with Rem going into a coma, the story didn’t immediately forget about her.
I think some interesting stuff could happen between rem and subaru. I could see rem judge subarus actions to see what type of person he is, just for there situation to become dangerous causing subaru to send rem away in the derection of his friends in the hope that she will be fine so he can focus on helping reclame the country. Just for rem to return and save Subaru. That is what i think might happen idk.
I'm going to make a point here. Rem's personality in Arc 7 isn't new. It's old. The narration reinforces that she was always like this. She isn't even free of her love for him, since it seems to linger in some way. An often overlooked aspect, due to how Arc 4 was translated before 3, is actually Subaru's impression of Rem and his dependence upon her which were both emphasized far more than the anime, which actually changed and removed scenes to downplay that angle. The current amnesia is for the benefit of both. It allows Subaru to remember that Rem was never, ever, for a single moment just a comfortable source of convenient affection. That she was a person, wary and suspicious, whose trust he earned. Someone who paid attention and had thoughts, rather than a love machine. None of this is new to her. Many of the lines used in Arc 7 reflect Rem's earlier dialogue. Rem's speech in From Zero would never have been so effective on him if her love was truly just a sickness consuming her character. However, that love of hers was sufficiently extreme that Subaru might, at times, view her more as his angel of salvation than the real nuanced person she was. He might forget that it was his own actions and behavior that sparked that love, rather than it being offered to him freely for no reason. On Rem's side, I don't think her love is going to change too much from this experience. In all prior examples of amnesia, the individual's bonds seem to linger beneath the surface. Waiting to be reawakened. In the sidestories, Rem shows this lingering attachment to Subaru. What this current scenario provides, however, is pretty clear. The moment Rem strangles Subaru isn't going to be erased. The mistakes Subaru has consciously made so far have all remained intact. Some of these moments being parallels for Arc 2 events. That is to say, Subaru and Rem are starting over from zero, without the luxury of erasing those early rough patches this time. Taking it slowly, rather than all in one great hectic burst.
Kinda pushing it here. Your talking about rem who’s whole life was revolved around others. When she was born she was supposed to die but was saved by her sister. They grow and she’s not as strong as ram but feels like a burden because ram could be far more powerful if her horn wasn’t split between them so she tries to do things to prove her own worth which fails as she had to be saved again by ram. Then after moving to the mansion she took on all responsibilities because she felt rams condition was her fault and did it to take the burden off her. Between being her sisters keeper and the property of Ros she really doesn’t see much value in her self. This changes when subaru saves her, as a girl with no real attachments before him she never really experienced romantic love before so it comes off as in unhealthy but really she’s just new to these feelings. It’s puppy love compared to like when a new couple can stay on the phone for hours compared to a older couple that has been dating for a while barely wants to stay on the phone for a few minutes. Slowly warming up to subaru in this vol shows she’s still going to fall in love with him eventually.
Exactly! That’s why I really don’t agree that she had no personality or character, she did, but she still had a lot of growing to do. Her love for Subaru being the way it is, is most likely because she’s never experienced that before, or the idea that anyone else could truly care for and love her.
I think it's also important to think about how Rem's current personality is very much like Ram's. And one of the things that stopped them from becoming the Oni God, was that they split the personality. Now they pretty much share the same one. WIll Rem become the Oni God? Fuck now I won't sleep tonight.
That's unlikely, because it's not confirmed that they actually were supposed to be one being (the oni god) and because Rem never showed any of the potential that Ram demonstrated literal hours after her birth.
@@-namehiereinfuegen511 you're totally right. However... it's Tappei we're talking about here and he could even make the Final Boss a mix of Ram and Rem, after something like a ritual to summon the Oni God. Yeah I'm just dreaming awake but let me excite me xD
@@blast0940 here's the thing.....I've never seen Attack on Titan and I don't have enough free time to watch so I'm really sorry about that. But I know who Eren is thabks to the anime memes I've seen and thanks so much for letting me know.
I personally wish than Arc 7 Rem cares more about herself than Subaru, since she always saw herself as an inferior person. Like that, if she ever regains her memories, she'll be a better character than what she ever was.
I think we all know that in arc 3, there were a lot of people (including myself) that thought Rem was best girl for a multitude of reasons. My main reason being for what she has done for Subaru over the course of the hellish loops he had to experience during that arc. She stuck by him in his lowest point and pushed him back up when he felt helpless/worthless. That’s why I started to love her character. I was happy that she was being brought back in arc 7 since a lot of other characters in the Emilia camp were given character development but her. I hope Tappei will at least give her her memories back but allow her to keep her current personality and realize her obsessive nature is wrong. I think it would be interesting to see her regain her love for Subaru, but not only in a less obsessive way (like how it is for Emilia) but in a way that will allow her to not being ok playing second fiddle. Which would make things interesting involving the love triangle between her, Subaru and Emilia. Now if she doesn’t love Subaru back that’s also fine, but I think the first option will spice up the story. That way it’ll be more impactful for Subaru to have to let his love for her go to familial love in later arcs, realizing he could only have one girl in his heart.
That's going to be kinda difficult....I can see Rem getting over Subaru, but what about Subaru getting over Rem? like you said Subaru could probably change his love to a familial type of love for her but Subaru so far has shown a possessive trait over Rem. For example, when Otto tried to help carry Rem in arc 4 Subaru told him to back off, in Arc 6 when Julius commented on how Subaru is surrounded by so many girls, Subaru told him that Rem and Emilia already belonged to him so he couldn't have any of them and in his named chapter he argued with himself on who gets to keep Rem. So..... that's going to be hard for me to see Subaru let go of Rem IMO.
@@blast0940 It'd be rough, sure, but he's quite aware of how unhealthy she is (citation: Louis parrots all of Subaru's worst views of his companions in arc 6), and would try to be supportive of her growth.
@@thermophile1695 (Sorry for the long reply 😂) See I wouldn’t either, but loving Otto? Yeah I guess that would be cool but idk I would need to see that dynamic. I would be ok with her not being with anyone and just taking care of Louis, but I feel like her falling for Subaru in a more natural way would make the love triangle more interesting. Like I feel like her development can be like Nino from Quintessential Quintuplets or something (if you’ve seen that anime). Her falling for him again would be cool to not only see her love for him in a new perspective thanks to the new personality, but would also make Subaru’s decision making more interesting than her not falling for him and just be like “Ok, back for Emilia being the only one in my heart now”. Like it would be more satisfying for Subaru and Rem to come to the decision that he needs to be with Emilia at like a later point in time like arc 10 or even in the latter half of arc 11.
@@blast0940 Yeah it would be difficult but that’s what I want to see personally. Him struggling to make that decision will honestly be more satisfying whenever he chooses Emilia again.
Imo, Arc 7 Rem is very promising. However, what can really make or break her character in the future is whether she gets her memories back. I think Arc 7 Rem should go through with the AmnesiaBaru treatment or Arc 4 Emilia treatment. She should develop without her memories, get her memories back, have a character crisis, come to terms with her inferiority complex by herself or with help from Subaru. And then we have a combination of old and new Rem who would be far better and more independent. If Rem doesn't get her memories back, I feel like it would be bad writing because rather than addressing Rem's inferiority complex, Tappei would basically just get rid of it.
Rem has way more problems then just inferior complex. Emilia to develop till Arc 4 was years and years of walking a path thinking that is who she is, Rem getting her memories back quickly in Arc 7 wouldn't be the same in Arc 4 with Emilia at all, and Subaru can't really help her with it because Subaru is about desperately wanting the old Arc 3 Rem back to use her a emotional therapist for his own weaknesses. Also Amensia Subaru can't be the same with Rem's because of louis inhabiting his body basically there were two version of Subaru's that met each other, the one that started to grow into a better person because of everyone around him and because of mostly being with Emilia and the other version of Subaru that was in Arc 1 coming to realize all this time he thought he could never change as a better person but he did.
Sickness or not is based on how her affection on him go is good or bad . Her affection on him transferred him from a loser to a hero . In Arc 3 she knew well about her sickness for Subaru and she choose to control it and guided him into better path
I think that's the point. Subaru needed that support in Arc 3, but in the long run it would have been detrimental to both him and Rem as characters. Because of this, Tappei sidelined her until Arc 7, where Subaru was mature enough to help her through life without memories. If she'd woken up like that before Arc 4, I don't think it would have turned out well at all.
@@fanatic_hobo839 But imagine what would have happened if Rem had woken up in Arc 4 without memories. Subaru would have given a speech or something, and she would have rejected him. Ram would have been the one to help Rem, and she would have eventually gotten to tolerate Subaru, who would have taken the loss of their connection very badly. Now, her negative reaction, instead of crushing his spirits, is pushing him to improve himself into someone that this new Rem can respect while still dealing with all the other issues that assail them.
Hmmmm I’ve seen a lot of people against her regaining her memories mainly due to thinking she would revert back to not having much of a character (which is false imo) or believing that she would again become a character with wasted potential in a sense ( which I agree with as she was kind of content with the way things were she grew a bit but not as much as she could of) and even shipping. In my opinion Rem not ever regaining her memories would not only be out of character for Tappei considering his style of writing and character development but also a poor decision as it would feel unrealistic, cheap and improper really as because while she may become this fresh character with a blank slate who’s character doesn’t really centre around Subaru realistically who is to say she still possess her past flaws and wouldn’t for example be unhealthily obsessive towards somebody else like Louis for example since amnesia Rem seems to only care for her. You can’t expect someone not to do the same damaging things they have done to themselves and others if they have no memory of doing those things. People learn through experience and while tappei can have rem easily forget her past completely and become an entirely new person without her past flaws IMO it would be lazy and improper writing especially for a writer like him. IMO Rem needs to confront her past and face her flaws head on just like Subaru and others have done throughout the story so she can properly grow and develop.
All i'm saying is that the rem from the "sloth if" was just fine and we don't really need another ram. Still I hope she solves her self sacrifice problems.
The only thing i disagree with, though its mostly semantics, is when Jake says that Rem has no character. I understand what he means in that Rem is mostly someone who only acts according to her obsession and pushes her self aside. I wouldnt call this having no character, the fact that she has no clothes other than her uniform and her nightgown does not show that she has no character, rather i would described that as just how empty as a person Rem is. As a character Rem has a lot, but as a person Rem is shown to discard everything about herself.
I only watched the Anime Only-Part because I'm still in Arc 4 of the LN. One the themes in Re Zeros seems to be that you should love yourself. This applies to Subaru and Emilia but also to Rem. I don't know if her identity will be restored but I hope she learn to accept herself in the end.
I think that Rem should get her memories back but I agree with you too, I think she will be a better character for all of this and then she should get her memories back and kind of see how she has changed.
Good video, gonna give some of my own thoughts. I’ll try not to be too long. In Subaru’s devotion and love to Subaru, I do still consider the love she felt for him as a good thing for both him and her, however, it had many unhealthy qualities to it, like her obsession. The reason she attached herself so much to Subaru is because he’s the only other person besides her sister to ever actually care about her. Even by the end of Arc 3, the only people that truly cared about Rem were Subaru and Ram. It ended up growing into unconditional love, no matter what he does or goes through, she’ll always love him, and that’s a good thing. Subaru is probably the first person she’s ever had feelings like these for. Never felt worthy of loving, never felt worthy of being loved. Even by the end of Arc 3, she probably still believed she wasn’t really worthy of being loved, which I wanted to be proven wrong to her. She gave all her love to Subaru, but of course is not able to receive any in return. She believed this to be fine. As long as she could love Subaru and be able to stay by his side, she was content with that, even if it was destroying her on the inside, and that hurts me greatly. She doesn’t deserve that. Now, I can’t say I like Arc 7 Rem better, differently, but not better, because she’s basically a different person. I’m warming up to her, she annoys me a bit with the Louise obsession though, but I’m all aboard Louise best daughter train, so Subaru needs learn she’s not the same. It’ll be hard though considering what she put him through and her background. Now, I feel that if Rem gets her memories back, it can possibly help her development. She can relearn what Subaru means to her, and learn just how much everyone, or, well, Subaru, is willing to go through for her, hopefully adding to her own self worth. Then they can have a better, healthier relationship. I think if that happens, everyone, including all Rem fans can agree she’ll become a better character in every conceivable way, and we can all love her far more than we already did.
@@jackerrocker2235 The problem is people, say she wants to finally grow as a person and character separate from Subaru, but the thing is, that means nothing if in her mind she was never close to him. That’s not growing or developing. In Arc 7 Rem’s case, her development now would be getting closer to Subaru and learning to trust him.
@@Haseo8 exactly! She will learn to trust him and eventually, he will show her his true feelings for her. In return, she will have that affection for him because it wouldn’t be Rem if she didn’t. If you think Enabling his Savior complex as a good thing, then You are forever lost and trying to fill up the co-dependency he already had with him by having him no longer be able to live without rem, cannot possibly let go of rem and thus creating his extreme posessive and jealously towards it. This isn't "good"
@@peppermint3808 wait, doesn’t he have that same exact possessive behavior with Emilia? And wanting to be a hero isn’t really a bad thing. In fact, in the very first loop, he did say “I will save you” towards Emilia and in arc 6, he did say if he ever lost Emilia, he will kill himself. It isn’t exactly healthy either and what do you mean “co-dependacy”? He literally uses everyone like pieces to a puzzle in order to save them. Why do you believe everything Rem/Subaru do for one another is “unhealthy”? It CAN be justified you know.
This is a reaaaally interesting thing to talk about. I totally agree with you about Rem's obsession, it was totally unhealthy. And I agree Arc 7 Rem has the potential to be better. But I do not agree about Rem having no personality. I think her personality was actually well showed in episode 18, and it's why the Rem If could never actually happen, only in Rem's mind. I'm not gonna extend about it, I just think it's interesting to think about. However, I think we have a topic here that Tappei is almost obsessed with. He has made EVERY route to have a different character with an unhealthy obsession. - Envy: Rem (and arc 4 Subaru, before meeting Satella) - Pride: Subaru - Wrath: Emilia - Greed: Subaru AND Emilia - Gluttony: Shaula It's really interesting, at least for me, to think about it. It's like Tappei was using all of his mental capacities to teach us that, no matter how deep we believe we love someone, we CAN NEVER love someone else, if we don't love ourselves first. I think it's a great lesson to learn and something I needed too in my life, cuz I'm still a teen and teenagers tend to call "love" simple obsessions. I hope y'all learn to love yourselves and everyone else in a healthy way. That's what I think Re:Zero is really about.
Nicely put! Rem does have a personality; being obsessed is part of it. She has many distinct character traits (some that she needs to overcome), so I don't know why people would say that.
I agree wholeheartdely and i've been waiting to see someone speak thoroughly on Rem and her as a character. I really hope we get to see more of her newfound personality develop and if she does get her memories back, i hope it doesn't take away from who she is now. I love the idea of her living and acting for herself and not solely through her devotion to another person
Rem loves Subaru bc he’s being himself and finds a way when the situation got bad that’s her hero. Rem deserve to be with Subaru. Subaru and rem seem like they be together in the future later in the web novel
@Ákos M. X Its obvious that emilia will end up with him but rem can stay as subaru's personal maid in the end. Subaru needs rem as moral support and rem said she wants to be with subaru even if she is rejected so I think it's pretty good but the guy who made this comment 😂 DESERVE , Bruh.......
@Ákos M. it seems like the way Subaru keep saying I’m your hero and shows weakness to her in arc 7 it seems like not only wants her memories back but I think he will develop feelings again for her. But in the end they end up together
Honestly I think it depends on just depends on whether Rem gets her memories back or not if she does then that version of her will become a better character vice versa
I would love seeing more Rem becoming actually herself in arc 7, instead of finding the solution to regain her preious memories. Rem's needs to be character herself, instead of loyal Subaru follower. Also Subaru needs to realize that with previous Rem was something wrong and let her go and live her own normal live. Everything points to that scenario, and I hope Tappei will not take the easiest way to please Rem fans.
The thing is with that then that’s the easy way to solve her issues. Her growth would feel a lot more significant and powerful if she actually remembers how she was. Also, don’t forget Ram. Rem has a sister who also deserves her back. So Subaru trying to regain her memories is not just for her and himself, but for Ram too. The amnesia should be to help her development, like it did for Subaru.
Rem (from arc 3) my girl, I love you and all but, you really need to go to see a psychiatrist and join a group therapy and talk about your love sickness.
Arc 7 rem is an actual character while arc 2/3 rem was just a reason for Subaru to be a hero. Rem as she is now feels like ram if she could be a little bit more honest with her feelings. I think arc 7 rem has a chance of being a good character and live the life she always wanted to have. I really like rem as a character but it was annoying how she never thought she mattered.
I can agree, although to me it wasn’t annoying how she thought she never mattered, it was heartbreaking. I love her, so of course I want her to KNOW she mattered. I say this but the honestly the only people she truly mattered to was Subaru and Ram, which is a depressing thought.
It would be slightly sloppy writing to resolve Rem’s inferiority complex with the plot, so I personally expect arc 3 rem to return in some way or another
I still like Rem Arc 2 better than Arc 7 Rem, it’s just hard to see Rem dissing Subaru after all he’s done even if she doesn’t know better. Although I doubt anyone can deny that Arc 7 Rem definitely has the potential to be better than Arc 2 Rem in almost every way.
See, I feel like as much as Rem could be a better character in arc 7 i just can't see her as "Rem" without her loving Subaru at least a little bit ya know? To me it's like Asta not wanting to train and better himself or Luffy not being a goof ball most of the time
Don't worry , once she gets her memories back she would still be the same rem but this time she would have alot more confidence in herself and start to value herself alot more. In arc 3 she didn't value herself at all to the point where she wasn't sure if subaru even loved her when he confessed and she didn't think she could compete with emilia at all. Things like her being selfless or caring or protecting others would still be in her as it has become a staple In her character.
@@ggmr399 so like what's the point of her developing then ? She'll just be a completely different person which doesn't solve any of her problems. Like the entire message of rezero is about loving yourself, so why would rem be the only one not to develop when she is specifically known for hating herself ? Also that would just ruin her entire relationship with subaru. So rem confesses to subaru and saves him then subaru never saves her back ? After all the promises he made and suffering he went through to save her , she just never comes back ? And How would that leave subaru knowing the girl he spent over an entire year crying over ? He would never recover from that. He states he can't have a future without her and that he doesn't want to live if she isn't by his side. So like , what's the reason for her to not come back ?? It's not like subaru's love would just go and be like "oh well , I have emilia so who cares".
If rem falls in love with Subaru again, but with a healthier mindset, instead of being psychotic beyotch and not caring about whether she dies or not ,I think it’ll be fine
Totally agree with you. I also thought that if rem wakes up without her memories then we would be able to see her character as it is without being influenced by ram's or subaru's shadow. The arc7 rem "loves herself" we can say.
btw, the "rem best day" side history is a very beautyful chronicle telling how Rem felt guilt for suspicing Subaru and subaru helping her in a lovable way again enfatizating her own vallue and that he forgived her, wich caused a emotional impact on her again, that's why "best day" the hair cut was clearly a sub sub plot lol
In my personal opinion, Arc 2 Rem had the potential to become a much better character than Arc 7 Rem if she hadn't lost her memories and went into a coma. Arc 7 Rem is literally just a carbon copy of Ram. While I do agree that Arc 2 Rem is overly dependant on Subaru, I feel like her problems as a character would've been addressed and confronted if she had the chance to undergo the trials in the sanctuary in Arc 4. We would've seen a Rem that got over her past trauma and supported Subaru without seeing her life as expendable. We would've seen a Rem comparable to the Rem in the Sloth What If? who is still in love with Subaru, but doesn't see her life as expendable because Subaru chose to run away with her & start a new life with her. I would absolutely hate it if Arc 7 Rem never gets her memories back because she would be getting robbed of the chance to grow massively as a character.
Not true, let's be honest, she got her chance and she wasted it, she was obsessed with her sister and now she's obsessed with Subaru too, we thought that she actually got character development but it turns out later that she didn't, so what was the point of giving her that much screen time?, just so she could help Subaru?, what else tho?, what did she do for herself? Nothing. The author said that she wouldn’t have a role to play if she's still awake. even if she is awake, who said that she can under go the trials like that?, she doesn't even have the qualifications to do that, like she doesn't have a mixed blood and even if she does why would the author give her more screen time than what she already had?, other characters just barely got any screen time and never had a chance unlike Rem so what you said really doesn't make sense. I agree that she should get her memories but idk if i could call it a massive character development since i don't like how all her "flaws" just steam from her obsession and if she got rid of that there would nothing wrong with her character.
@@Moon-yh8dh You can't really say that Rem "got her chance" to change when she hasn't had to make the kinds of choices that someone like Subaru or Emilia had to make. Rem is an emotionally damaged character because of her past and she hasn't had to face her past like Subaru, Emilia, Garfiel, etc. She has an inferiority complex much in the same way that Subaru does through the story. Rem did have alot more screen time than other characters but she was never put into a situation where she needed or even wanted to change. Right after Arc 2 which is when Rem was saved by Subaru, she was busy trying to help Subaru come up with a way to save Emilia from being killed by the Witch Cultists. Once Subaru and Rem succeeded, everyone's memories of her existence were erased and she went into a coma. Where in Arc 3 did Rem have the "chance" to change? You can't say for sure that Rem wouldn't have been able to take on the trials since Subaru wasn't a mixed blood either. He was given qualification by Echidna. I was speaking hypothetically if Rem was given permission to take the trials by Echidna as well, she'd have the same opportunity to change as the other developed characters. I do agree to an extent that Rem basically changed her obsession for Ram to an obsession for Subaru. But it makes sense that she did. She still hadn't changed as a character so her obsessing over The Hero who saved her life falls in line with the character traits she had before Arc 3. If she had to face a dilemma where she needed to self reflect, she would've been more than a tragic heroine who follows the main character wherever he goes. I really don't wanna argue about this. I'm just expressing my opinion because I really love Rem's character despite her obvious flaws and she wasn't given an internal conflict to give her character much needed growth.
@@_Kurumi_Tokisaki_ She did get her chance tho?, after Subaru saved her and give her that speech, she did have a chance, it's like all what Subaru told her was pointless, she got obsessed with him, that's doesn't sound character development, in fact it's the exact opposite. A lot of character are damaged emotionaly my guy and they grow and learn from their mistakes, that's no excuse for Rem. Facing your past is not the only you could get character development. Arc 2 events did put her in a situation like that, the side stories and arc 3 showed that she didn't actually develop. Cool, but there's qualification for taking the trials, shouldn't what you said be in the context of the story?, why would Echidna allow Rem to take the trials like Subaru?, does Rem have RBD?, no, giving Subaru the qualification to undergo the trials wasn't for fun you know, she specifically gave it to Subaru because of his ability while there's no reason to give Rem the qualification and that would be just forced plot and lazy writing which doesn't really make sense, so yes you can say for sure that she wouldn’t have a chance of taking the trials. It might make sense for you but not really for me, i was expecting character development not the opposite, her obsession might have benefited Subaru but what did she herself gain? Nothing. She did have a chance to reflect on herself in arc 2 but she didn't really do anything about it.
@@Moon-yh8dh Like I said, I'm not going to argue. I disagree with you about Rem having a chance to change because nothing in Subaru's speech would've caused a change or made her want to change. She was put into a coma shortly after Subaru saved her so her character wasn't going to change without some internal conflict. I'm just expressing my opinion on Rem's character. It's OK if you disagree with me. I'm not trying to debate on your point of view of Rem's character I'm just letting people know how I feel about it. Edit: Also Subaru having Return By Death isn't the reason Echidna gave Subaru qualification to take the Trials. It was the tea that he drank containing Echidna's body fluids that gave him qualifications. So in theory: in a hypothetical situation if Rem & Subaru both went to check on Emilia after she failed the trial her 1st time, Rem would've also been transported to Echidna's tea party in the graveyard, but probably without Subaru. If she had also drank Echidna's tea, she'd be able to take the trial.
@@_Kurumi_Tokisaki_ He did talk with Rem about Ram and her low self worth tho but in the next arc you see her just throwing her life without even thinking plus the second wife thing. No, the reason why Echidna gave him the qualifications is because of his RBD, that's the whole reason why she wanted to manipulate him, because she wanted immortality and knowledge. That's literally what she did in the greed if, she was abusing his ability and Subaru was perfect for her since he's basically immortal and she made him die unnecessary deaths so she could see every out come and gain knowledge. Bro, the moment Subaru entered her tomb and he didn't suffer at all from it means he already has the qualifications. The tea has nothing to do with that, she made him drink the tea to activate his witch factor, giving him the qualifications is a completely different thing. So like i said, there's no reason for Echidna to give Rem the qualifications, it's just forced plot.
Plus, they'll be disappointed if Season 3 will only adapt Arc 5 since Arc 5 doesn't have Rem in it. They'll have to wait for the Season 4 ending. Unless if they can merge Arcs 5 & 6 into Season 3.
And u know right? That tappie don't prefer polygamy so she might not end up with him. But I think she will surely love him again and will be by his side in the end as his personal maid and emilia being the wife.
I've only followed the anime but spoiled myself on the general scope of this because I wanted to know when she'd be back. Also, Rem's my fav in Re-Zero..... that said: I was thinking around the same lines of the video. Lack of peace times in the story don't really give her time to be herself even if she wasn't living for Ram and Subaru. Due to this, I don't think the anime gets to showcase the issues with all this all that well. It was until I saw the Mayonese scene at the OVA that I thought she was acting a bit much like Subaru's cheerleader even on a casual level, and the doggie ears and tail effect of "praise me senpai" from the mayo antics made me wondering if this was all just some dumb fun that didn't care about consistency on her..... Watching this video of yours, I think it makes sense. I believe she'll get to form more of her persona during her time with no memory, but eventually she has to regain her memory and gain perspective, finally comparing those chapters of her life and truly seeing herself as a whole untrapped from those past biases. From living in guilt under Ram's shadow, to fixing the "guilt" part but still putting herself second when she got into Subaru, to whatever aspect of her persona her memoryless days will serve, to the conclution. I don't think the thing between Subaru and Emilia is all that flawless either so still rooting for Rem in this regard, but yeah Rem has to balance herself more after this trial.
I doubt that she is going to regain her memories at all. All these shenanigans with louis are certainly weird. it makes me actually think that she is the real Rem.
Nice analaysis, didnt actually know about the side stories! I wonder if Rem does get her memories back, how would her personality turn out? And tbh, I can see her love for him coming back but in a better and not toxic way. With the recent chapter, Al suggested Subaru to get his title of hero back. Who knows, maybe he'll do something stupid again and catch Rem's heart once more. Idk about Subaru tho, maybe he won't be as attached to Rem once her memories come back. He'll sooner realize that the Rem he loved is gone now despite having her memories back as her personality completely changed. Also interested in other characters that have been affected by gluttony, especially Louis. She's very sus, wonder if she would have a change of heart when her memories come back. Well all we can do is wait I guess, this would be a long hell of a ride.
As much as I love Arc 2 and 3 Rem, I would also love to see her grow as a person. I want to know what sort of things she would like, I want to see what she does on her own, without being told or influenced by someone else.
I agree with most of the video. The one issue i have with Rem that stops me from liking her is she is just arc 2 Ram and Beatrice. throws insults and jumps to conclusions. She doesn't stop jumping to conclusions about Subaru despite his actions proving otherwise. There's also still a hint of who she used to be in arc 7. She isn't obsessed with everyone, but she does seem to care a lot for louis despite knowing nothing about her. I think her obsessive nature comes from a her more caring side and the part of her that just immediately jumps to the worst possible conclusion (or the best depending on if it's someone she is obsessed over). Now assuming Tapei does something about that with her character in arc 7, I'll be happy with the change, but as of right now she is the most over loved character in fiction that i have seen and i can't understand it. There's even people that still think she deserves to be with Subaru, despite being a side character and all the points mentioned in the video. I will never understand it.
@Ákos M. She became much less obsessive this arc, but now she's an asshole to him. The completely opposite. Subaru's been getting bullied by everyone for two arcs straight now, the only two that doesn't is Emilia and Satella (not envy). Even Beatrice had a few insults for him when speaking to Roswaal, but at least she doesn't directly tell Subaru that. The second he regroups with Emilia and Beako the guy needs some time alone with them to relax, but this is Re:zero so he'll probably have t find a way to save the planet from being destroyed by a meteor in 5 hours with a toothbrush the second that happens or something like that.
@Ákos M. It's kinda sad that even Echidna didn't do that (from my memory) or any of the other witches actually. I don't think Satella is capable of saying a single bad thing about Subaru and i don't think envy has the cognitive ability to say anything other than "i love you". I feel like people ain't gonna be belittling him in arc 11 tho.
@Ákos M. I actually haven't seen him do as much of that lately. He did in arc 6, but that was due to a memory wipe. I can't remember when in arc 6 but i do remember Subaru considering killing himself after something didn't go completely according to plan but didn't, because he remembered his promise to Satella. I think belittling himself won't be an issue the more the story continues, but assuming Satella is an ally in arc 11 (which she most likely will be, i mean it makes literally no sense for her to go against Subaru for an entire arc) then i don't think anyone else is gonna want her to dislike them; that is, however assuming they're still his allies in arc 11. Either way i don't think he will be treated the way he is now later on or that he will suffer as much in the final arc. i mean how much character development can you give the guy? It's not like he would need to worry about mental support either with two silver haired half elves by his side and his own loli.
I also think it would be nice if from scratch Rem got to a point where her character develops and matures, and only then gets her memories back, so she can work on fixing her issues from a better perspective. I think her never getting back her memories would just be a cheap play to not have to address her past and would kind of diminish all that entails. So I think newly developed Rem and old memories Rem would make for the best possible Rem. Although as we can see, her obsession with Subaru seems to really only be suppressed, given there are cracks already. But that still doesn't rule out a best of both worlds Rem. At her core, Rem is an incredibly kind person, willing to sacrifice and give everything for those she cares about. It makes her feel flawed and realistic in that way. Hopefully she can work on being in a better place.
If Rem is this kind person, then why doesn't she do things like Emilia does? She don't give a shit about anyone but herself Subaru and Ram and no one else that is not being "kind". She didn't even gave rats ass about giving Subaru a chance to speak she didn't care she doesn't care about anyone as her original self, she is a yandere that would eventually just end up torturing subaru in the name of love (she already has during arc 3 and was trying to kill him) and eventually kill Emilia out of sheer jealously. This is all confirmed by Tappei of her becoming Yandere if never went to sleep. IF put Rem on the kind scale she would be at best and most Chaotic Neutral given she tortures people for just looking at Subaru. Rem is just naturally a sick person and can already see her obsession starting to come out and will eventually reject that disgusting love she has and move on because Subaru needs to move on from this unhealthy attachment of her own Sick state of mind. Biggest example is this, Elsa cared GREALTY about Meili does that mean Elsa is now a "kind" person? NO because being KIND is literally more then just caring about people you care about.
@@whateverwhatever4476 not true shes not kind person? Funny how you say that since Subaru already said that "if you love someone that means your good person" and know what the sane person said to him' "are you stupid"? Rem isn't kind, shes only kind to people "worthy" of her kindness
@@peppermint3808 naw, your wrong your just being bias cause you don't like Rem. I see you in every comment section just shitting on rem. Also that's the most dumbest theory I've ever heard they can easily be debunked by any re zero fan. How is Rem just Ram? That makes literally no sense. Also you need to edit your comment the grammar is off and it is hard to properly read.
Honestly, the more I’ve thought about Rem and read up on her and comments honestly just makes me love her more. Rem is also probably one of the most relatable characters to me. I’ve also thought about how she sees Subaru as a hero and can’t help think how sweet it is. Of course she has no idea what he’s actually going through and if she knew, I don’t know what she would do. I see people paint her viewing him as a hero as toxic, and maybe there are some negatives to it, primarily in terms of his mentality towards it, but I can’t not think of it as a good thing for him. It helps give him more drive. In a position where he had no expectations, what was the point in still going? She also doesn’t ignore his flaws like I’ve see some people say. He laid them all out for her, what else is she supposed to say? Subaru and Rem are a lot alike. They both have low self worth, lived in the shadow of someone they looked up to.(for Rem, her sister, for Subaru, his father) Tried to live up to expectations that were impossible. Then eventually gave up. He’s not her hero because she chooses to only see the positives. It’s precisely because of his weaknesses, that despite him being an average human with no power and a ton of faults, he can keep moving forward towards what he believes, unwilling to compromise, that makes him a hero in Rem’s eyes. She never said he’s “a” hero, he’s “her” hero. Being just an average person with his own issues doesn’t make him less of one. To Rem, it makes him more of one. He’s not a hero, he’s Rem’s hero.
@@phines8499 “How is she relatable,” you might ask? Aside from the tragedy of losing your home and family the way she did, the rest of it is very relatable. Such as her insecurities. Feelings of worthlessness, uselessness, self doubt, self deprecation, even self hatred, I have it. Whenever I do something wrong I hate myself for it, for instance. So, I really relate to Rem in that regard and I can understand her train of thought, because they’d be mine.
While I do love Rem's character I do feel she definitely could have more growth and strength in development of her personality. I do hope that with Arc 7 she will be more developed to become a growing and stronger character. As for the whole romantic feelings of Rem & Subaru that is not something I care for one way or another. I would rather her just be more of a good friend and partner that can be reliable with Subaru in battle. So I suppose I would have to say I do like current Arc 7 of Rem, but I do also love Arc 3's Rem too for different reasons. I just like her character in general. We will just have to see how she progresses further on in Arc 7 and beyond.
Rem not having her memories detracts from the overall theme of the characters (especially Subaru and Emilia) when we talk about overcoming faults. There's no character to improve if she doesn't know anything. She's still capable of compassion and yes clearly has a personality, but it's completely different to her previous one. Even without reading the side stories, I always felt that Rem's love was as unhealthy as Subaru's for Emilia in the beginning. That idolization is a sickness one can overcome as we saw with Subaru and it's really unsatisfying to not see it in Rem. That's why I'm really impatient for Rem to get her memories back. This may be a healthier and therefore "better" Rem, but through no work, just victimhood. That's not the kind of message I think the author wants to convey. I think Rem will get her memories back relatively soon and use the time she spent without her memories (because she'll definitely still have that time still like my main man) as a basis to reform her outlook. She'd then know what it's like to love without sickness and strive for it again (she loves Rui without any sickness).
To quote Arc 6, Louis: “Devoted and tries to dedicate gratuitous love, Rem! Foolish and beautiful, how pure. Surely she is an incomplete existence who gains the real feeling of living by becoming frantic for the sake of someone else, other than herself. Precisely that, must be led by the existence known as I!”
The fact that Rem had no character is quite the bold(and false) statement, they are not the best character traits to have as a person but they are still character traits non the less. You say that now that she is not shackled by her past she may develop, but our experience is a big part of what builds our character in the first palace. Without them she is not the same person, nor she can ever be the Rem we knew. We will not see Rem grow and develop, we will see a new person that replaced her grow and develop. I am not saying the new Rem is not a better character than the original, she most likely is and as we will see her grow she will definitely develop into a character we all will love.
The way Tappei wrote Rem's Arc is like she has stopped growing. There is no more development that can be done. She is at peace with what she became (Subaru emotional supporter). There is no more goal that she wants to achieve for herself, and there are no more objectives other than protecting Subaru or die for him. It is great and emotional but only for Subaru, and not for her. Thus, she (as a character) feels stagnant. It is someone you really wish/need to have at your side (if you're in need of support and in need of validation) but in the grand scheme of things, she plays a minor role. To make matter worse, that role is being filled slowly (during her comatose) by other characters. But that's not a bad thing, if she were not so pivotal to Subaru. But alas, she is important to Subaru, thus she needs more than that to be a good character. There is no more conflict that can benefit her or let us see her view from another angle or no more conflict in which she contributed anything to her character whatsoever. This is why Arc 7 kinda hit the reset button for Rem. Her mannerism changes, her priority changes, her view was not clouded with obsession to Subaru at all. She also started to open up to Subaru naturally yet slowly and trust his decisions more (and not drastically like in Arc 3), thus the pays off feels more cathartic. This is also an opportunity for her to have another role that only she could carry other than being Subaru's emotional support since Emilia, Beako, and Otto are also filling up this role. Maybe a role where she could keep Louis in check just like Ram's role to keep Roswaal in check. It is also more interesting if she interact more with Emilia, Petra and Beako, not as a maid, but as a friend.
She still had development. She still had issues like her low self worth. She needed to learn to love and value herself more. She may be at peace with it, but that’s why her issues needed to be addressed by someone else. This amnesia can definitely help her if she gets her memories back.
@@Haseo8 I think his point wasn't that she couldn't improve, it's that she wasn't going to. She was static because there was nothing driving her to grow as a character, not because she was flawless.
@@thermophile1695 Yeap, you got it. Rem herself feels at peace with who she is now thus she don't feel the need to change. Subaru just need to guide her in Arc 7 so that she appreciates herself more and find a goal for herself once she had her memories back (if she ever gets them).
@@hakimke2 Subaru guiding her would make sense as a parallel, but the memories will have to return in my opinion. If what Rem needed was a full reset, erasing everything about her past self, it would feel cheap if it stays that way forever. While it would partially fit into what Rem said to Subaru in arc 3, the other half of it wouldn't be a factor anymore, which is coming to terms with your own past and negative aspects about it too, and Rem doesn't have that for now. How I see it is the amnesia is a good device for Rem to develop without external factors like Ram or the past as Onis, similar to distancing yourself from a toxic environment after many years, be it relationships or family. However, it will only be fully effective if the memories become intact again, because then she gets a choice, now that she'll have experienced two ways of living basically. Right now there is no conflict within her, regarding herself.
@@Vord Now that's actually could work better now that I think about it. If she can have her memories in Arc 3 back and infuse it with her memories in Arc 7 and somehow gain a middle ground between these 2, it would've been perfect. She would still love Subaru and Ram, but also herself. At the same time, have her own goals and views based on her memories and experience in Arc 7.
Arc 7 is definitely Rem's chance to undergo some character growth. She's bene given an opportunity to become her own person without living in the shadow of her sister and her traumatic past, so when she gets her memories back she will retain her good traits of loyalty, devotion, etc but in a less obsessive and overbearing, healthier way. Maybe she'll finally become her own person with her own personality, convictions, beliefs, goals, etc. No idea if Tappei ever wants to give Emilia any legitimate competition for Subaru's heart (tho tbh I'd be mad if Subaru ever pursued anyone other than Emilia), but if he does then the only way Rem will be a good fit for him and able to attract him would be if she does become her own independent person with the above qualities. Love is not obsessive, but a mutual companionship that entails a great many things, which at the moment Rem is too blind by lovesickness to see.
This makes me imagine a darker Sloth If where Subaru slowly loses his love for Rem as he realizes there was never anything to love in the first place. Arc three Rem really reminded me of this short story(reverse the genders in your head, here Ryan is the one with Rem's character flaws): When Ryan was in college, he was a leading member of his fraternity. He was in charge of organizing his house’s parties. He was a gregarious guy and liked by most people. At one of these parties, he met Jane. Jane took an immediate li- king to Ryan and the two began dating. Ryan would organize and throw his parti - es, Jane would come and bring her friends. They shared stories, experiences and interests. The rest of college went on like this. After they graduated, Ryan took a job at a bank. Jane got involved in a local charity. Ryan’s social network disappeared and his long hours at work killed any desire for him to go out and make new friends. He began to spend more and more time with Jane. They usually just watched movies and shared a bottle of wi- ne. As time went on, Jane became more and more involved in her charity events and began traveling to help with fundraisers. Ryan would spend this time alone watching TV or maybe grabbing a beer with one of his old buddies, but it wasn’t the same. After another year, Ryan would openly complain to Jane about her trips. Jane obviously sympathized with Ryan, but she felt pressured and resen- ted him for it. They began to fight more often. Ryan gained weight. Jane spent more time working away from home. Ryan decided to plan a lavish trip for the two of them to the Caribbean. He could use the much-needed time away from work, and it would infuse their re - lationship with the excitement and passion that it sorely needed. The trip returned the romance to their relationship briefly. But upon returning home, reality began to set in once again. Within a few months it was back to business as usual: him overworked and irritable, her distancing herself and traveling. Ryan began talking about marriage. Jane was hesitant. She stated that her job was getting busier and she didn’t know how much she’d be around to plan a wedding. Ryan had been saving much of his money to buy her a ring. Jane la- mented that they were still young and hadn’t really experienced much of life yet. Secretly, in the back of her mind, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Ryan was terrified of just that: experiencing life, and marrying her was just another way for him to escape it. Dejected, a few weeks later Ryan began to complain that Jane spent too much time with her friends and at work. Indeed, Jane had been staying at work until way into the night, even on days when she didn’t have to. Ryan began pres - suring Jane to move in together, but again she resisted, this time fervently. Ryan exploded, he had been giving up everything for her the past few years and she had been nothing but ungrateful. She retorted that Ryan had been suffocating her with his demands for attention and affection. Jane dumped him on the spot.
I… don’t really think any of this applies to Rem that much. She developed obsessive qualities, but none of that is Rem. Rem has trust in Subaru, she just doesn’t believe in herself. She already believes there’s nothing to love about herself. She wants Subaru to be happy, it’s one of the primary reasons she refused to run away with him. On that note, realizing there was never anything to love? That doesn’t make much sense and would be very out of character for Subaru. There is plenty to love about Rem. Now, if you want a darker Sloth IF story, how about one where they end up having to deal with the fact that Subaru literally left everyone, including her sister, to die? How would they deal with that? I believe I read a fanfic that played with that idea which I can’t find for the life of me, but it’s always been an interesting idea. There’s a reason I can’t get completely behind the Sloth IF and I don’t think it ever went into that. I do hope if Tappei does decide to continue the Sloth IF, he tackles that. I kind of want Rem to find out and I don’t think the Sloth IF even hints that she knows what happened to her sister. (If it does, please correct me)
@@Haseo8 Rem didn't run away with her Subaru because she thinks it wouldn't make him happy, She didn't want to run away with Subaru because she doesn't want to let go of her idealizing that is the actual truth is why arc 3 rem is perfect for Subaru solution and yes it does she knows everyone is dead in Sloth if but im sure you have no idea how deep Sloth IF go's when comes to Subaru and Rems relationship and why there not good for each other at all. Relationships suppose to make you grow and evolve, there was nothing evolving in that relationship. Subaru and Rem don't give a shit that they left everyone to die dude not at all, Rem became Depressed because she starting to realize her idealizing is over of him because Subaru isn't this Hero anymore and Subaru just ended up becoming shadow of his father.
@@peppermint3808 There is so much wrong here. First of all, Rem of course had no idea everyone was going to die. Also, please don’t use the Rem IF with me. I’m not the biggest fan of it. And again, no, she doesn’t “idealize” Subaru. It’s also funny you say that when Emilia is actually idealized. She’s perfectly aware of his flaws. But also knows, despite them, he’s capable of moving forward. She’s the one person who will not allow him to give up. Not because he’s this perfect hero who can do anything, but because she believes in him, and that is precisely what Subaru needed. Anything else would result in a bad end. Also what is that about them not being good for each other? In the end they are happy together, and their second child is proof of that. Of course there will be some regrets, but they both chose to look towards the future with their happy family. Do you even know why Rem views Subaru as such a hero while no one else in the entire world does? It’s not because she’s delusional, she does, in fact, see his good qualities even when he denied them and everyone else abandoned him. Rem and Subaru are similar in many ways. They both tried and failed to live up to the family, they both gave up trying. They’re both weak individuals. Rem sees this, even when he was cursed because of her, even though he was far too weak to do anything, he still risked his life and brought Rem back. And then was the first person outside of family to accept her and care about her. It’s because of him her time was able to move forward again. She’s perfectly aware of all of his flaws, but she knows, despite them, he can keep on going and do what he believes in. She knows exactly how weak he is, which is why she’s more than willing to assist if he’ll just ask, which is what he was too stubborn to do, ask Rem for help. And of course she is right. He has done and continued to what he can. Like being instrumental to bringing down the white whale, and taking down Sloth. So where was Rem wrong? She knew he could do it, and she was right, because she believed in him. It’s because she believed him he can do everything he’s been able to do. I really do not understand what’s wrong here. She was right to believe in him to such an extent.
@@Haseo8 No Rem's character is delusional, her saying Subaru is a hero and saying that "He will bring punishment on Sin Archbishops" is alone very delusional. Subaru literally can't defeat the sin archbishops without dying even once. Rem doesn't even know about RBD how does she think he can defeat them. This literally shows how much she puts Subaru on the pedestal.
@@lifehacks344 He saved Rem, was instrumental in defeating the white whale and Sloth, and freeing sanctuary, and I haven’t read it but I heard: Spoilers for Arc 5 Came up with a plan to defeat Regulus. He’s been nothing but successful, despite beating weak. Rem knows he can’t do it all on his own since he’s only human, but she knows his determination, bravery, and desire to do what he believes is right will help himself and everyone through, and she’s right about that, which is one of the reasons why she wants to stay by his side and be there for him when he needs it.
* meanwhile in arc seven: Rem: so you are saying that I know you? Subaru: Yes! Rem: OK, then what was our prior relationship like? Subaru: uhhhhhhhhh.... *Subaru gets flashbacks to when Rem killed him, when Rem said that she loves him, & when Rem saw her die in arc 3 Subaru: we had a “complicated” relationship....
Honestly I would love a balance between arc 3 rem and arc 7 rem...as you said rems love/devotion towards subaru is quite unhealthy at times, and it mostly likely stems from rems insecurities, from her sister being said to be better than her, talent wise and all, as rem was considered inferior to ram. Idk if this also ties back to why rem and ram happend to be twins, since it shouldn't have occurred if im correct, but I believe what rem needs is for her to love and cherish herself first, she gives out love and affection but doesn't really know how to value/love herself. She believes she's inferior and unneeded, and serves no evident purpose, she has no apparent/strong goals, wishes, wants or needs and whatnot...factors that make a human or charcter believable and/or likeable. Her only purpose is to simply be maid, that was the one thing she lived her life for and did the best at compared to her sister who had all the talent. Ram was someone rem also wanted to be like, thats why she valued her dearly. Some reasons I believe why rem is now so attached to subaru could be because she loves the way he acts, his mannerisms, goals, ideals, his personality and so on, things rem may want for herself..like a rollmodel of some sort. If we don't receive love, sometimes we over-compensate and try to force love from the source we want it from or from other sources as well. And one other factor that may be true or not...would be that no one so far except from subaru has really shown rem so much value, appreciation and love, ram doesn't show that much if any towards rem...I think. Sometimes I wonder do people really have to be so complicated or have so many beginnings and ends to them...i find it interesting sometimes...when something is too simple we tend to cast it away as being boring and lacking stimulation but then if its too complicated we usually give up and deem it overcomplicated and unnecessary...*coughs* like rachel from TOG. That said rems love for subaru is truly a bit tooo much, though, heck people do this irl as well...but what rem needs is to choose to do something, be something other than being a maid...to serve. Subaru could assist her on her journey to finding meaning and value towards herself, to understand that she can love herself, that she isn't unneeded, inferior, lacking and all that, she doesn't have to be someone else...she can choose to be who she wants to be. I say all this being a rem fan myself, and I do want rem to be the best rem she can be, someone she can be proud of her self..
I MISS Arc 3 Rem, but I l know it's healthiest for her character progression for her to be facing the challenges she is in Arc 7. It's like yanking the bandage away from a wound that needs to breathe.
In my opinion I hope Rem gets her memories back, Arc 7 Rem is a little better but maybe with the events of Arc 7 and future arcs without her memories could affect her if she gets her memories, maybe she'll stop obsessing over Subaru and stuff
yeah i dont get people who think Rem was perfect back then, and this imperfection is what turns rem in more than a charcter, just like subaru she feels more human by her flaws and struggles, and that's why a like her, thats how i see it. arc 7 is just the chance to develop her character and that's awesome. but i want to appoint another fact too, falling in love too hard seems to be a Demon's race trait or at least this twins trait, since Ram's love for Roswaal aparently can be self destructive too also i don't think it was just the witch scent in arc 2 cause if it was, she would kill subaru no matter what he did, so it's a simmilar situation to arc 7 but since she dont have such a hatred for the witch cult she don't end killing him at first. dont agree much with her having no personality too, much of her personality is shown in the same side histories you cited while interacting with other people like while teaching beatrice how to clean the library
A lot of Rem fans get the impression that I hate Rem when I talk to them, but that's not the case; I hate the fixation people have towards mindless, unconditional obsession. Even Subaru knows how toxic this is (Louis says as much in arc 6), but a lot of fans can't seem to grasp it at all. When her obsession and self-loathing are looked at as flaws instead of the components of the perfect waifu, her character looks a lot better. And now that she's been separated from those things long enough to start to grow past them; I'm definitely optimistic about her new character direction.
@@thermophile1695 It’s the good Rem fans that recognize those flaws as flaws. Someone in a subreddit I’ve conversed with who seems to be more neutral even said Rem fans should actually be happy at the possibilities of her development that could arise from her current state, and I agreed with him. I think I like you. Here’s a like.
@@thermophile1695 personally i'd love if she gain back her memories after developing like this for a while and see this fusion to grow in a person that can pass through her flaws, cause if she never get it back i'd fell like she never got the chance to grow...
Understand what your saying but I like pre arc 7 Rem better. She gives badass speeches and Is not afraid to put herself on front lines while arc 7 rem just bitch wines and complains about everything subaru does
@@anomitas Not quite yet. With her memories gone her character must start from zero so she has to reestablish a character again. She hasn’t shown much of a character yet, she’s starting to as she starts to develop to learning to trust Subaru. She basically reverted to Arc 2 Rem, but worse. She must reestablish her character. Basically, she’s not an actual character YET. But she can, and will be.
So, everything "sick" about Rem, applies to Subaru x1000 with Emilia. You say Felix has the same degree of simping/sickness, so I wonder if the other knights are extreme simps for their candidates too? Reinhard simps for Felt, Julius simps for what's her face and Al simps for Priscilla? It's TOXIC relationships all around.
That's not the case. Felix have a more complicated history than the other knights. The other knights met their candidates only in a matter of a few years ago. But for Felix, she's basically Crusch's childhood friend and the person who saved her life.
To be fair outside of Wilhelm and Theresia I can’t think of a single not one sided love in this show And technically theresia is dead so that’s one sided too Think about it Subaru + Emilia, Fortuna + Guese, Rem + Subaru (until the whale fight) , Ram + Roswaal, Roswaal + Echidna, Garfiel + Ram, Mimi + Garfiel, Satella + Subaru My god love is selfless, sacrificing and unreciprocated in this world
“She had no real personality” Not even a minute in and I disagree already. Rem had a very distinct personality. She was rash, slow to trust people but prized and supported the people she did, hardworking and meticulous, polite but sometimes only in a sly way as she did insult Subaru quite often in Arc 2 if you remember, mischievous, tried to appear calm on the surface but not always put together underneath, caregiving, observant, sometimes envious, and somewhat battle crazy. A lot of people think Arc 7 Rem is a completely different character but it is just the unfiltered core of Rem’s being without the extras of her past. They’re both rash, slow to trust but protective of the ones they do, caregiving, try to appear calm on the surface but not put together underneath. Someone with no personality wouldn’t have been able to react to all the things that happened in arcs 2 and 3 like she did. Arc 2 Rem didn’t kill Subaru for his scent alone, she also did it because he acted suspicious with that. If his smell was enough she would have done it in his sleep. The smell makes her distrust him, his actions make her suspect him, and her past with the Witch Cult makes her kill him. Arc 7 Rem not having a past with the Witch Cult is what separates the two but they are still the same character under everything. Both Rems end up holding Subaru’s hand in his sleep when he’s distress despite their distrust of him. That’s the reason why Subaru knew she was actually kind. People just focus on her love and devotion and ignore all the other parts of her to say she has no personality. The anime doesn’t help this by removing a lot of the nuance and monologue of her character, not to mention whole scenes as well. “She is a yes man.” That’s so wrong. She might be open to Subaru’s ideas but not to the point she agrees with everything he does. She didn’t agree with him leaving to go to the palace but only allowed it cause Roswaal ordered her to. She thought it was wrong for him to rush out to the manor with no help but had to go with it cause again Roswaal ordered her to do so. She defied his wishes and left him behind the inn cause she knew it was too dangerous for him. From Zero is her rejecting his plea to run away in peaceful bliss despite being the life she would want. She also defied Ram and Roswaal to take action against Subaru. That is not a yes man. “She is dependent on Subaru” Another misconception. Rem is not dependent on Subaru. She is one of the most capable characters when it comes to taking care of herself. Now if we’re talking emotionally...what’s wrong with that? People nowadays like to just automatically assume that relying on other people emotionally is a bad thing but that’s wrong. We all need people in our lives to help give us emotional support. Subaru helped Rem restart the clock on her life and was beginning to be happier and making connections with more people. Those side stories you bring up and only look at in a negative context include Rem spending more time with other people and being more open since the events of Arc 2. Before she just treated Emilia as a guest as an obligation to Roswaal but then she started to be more friendly towards her. Rem helped Subaru to start getting over his past insecurities and motivated him to be the best he could be. A lot of characters in Re:Zero rely on other people emotionally, especially the main character. He would be a wreck right now if he had no one to support him emotionally. The only thing I agree on is that Arc 7 Rem might be better because it is potentially a chance for her to resolve her biggest character flaw which was her lack of self-worth when she gets her memories back, the same way Subaru in Arc 6 was given a chance to reflect on himself with his amnesia. Her just being a copy of Ram is not something I want.
I know you won't listen, but I'll quickly address your points anyway. Rem has no personality - You know this isn't literal, right? She's still a Re Zero character; Tappei doesn't make any of his characters completely flat. The problem is that two traits (her obsession and self-loathing) define almost her entire personality in Arc 3. She has underlying characteristics, but these are so totally overshadowed that they barely show; heck, her refusal of Subaru in episode 18 was because she didn't think she deserved to be happy and didn't believe that Subaru truly loved her, or ever would. In arc 7, we see what Rem could have been like if she wasn't shackled down by these traits, and she's a lot more interesting. She is a yes man - I'm not quite sure what you're trying to go for here. If you're mostly banking of S1E18, I already addressed that, but most of the other examples you bring up are her being overly protective and coddling of Subaru, which really isn't a good thing. Rem is dependent on Subaru - Have you heard the term 'interdependence'? Its the concept of relying on others for support and aid, while still being strong enough to help yourself when you need to. This is the balance between the extremes of dependence and independence, either of which are harmful when taken to extremes.
@@thermophile1695 Hm, when I think about that last point, it seems like it was more Subaru being over dependent on Rem. Hm, I might need help clarifying things, if you don’t mind.
I think you missed his point it’s not that she has no personality it’s that her personality and emotional and mental state is nearly completely reliant on Subaru same as before but to Ram. Yes she disagree with Subaru to run away but that’s for Subaru still because that’s not what Subaru needed so it still rounds back to Subaru and not what She wants. Now her personality is hinged on her past and what is her self worth which is close to Zero now in arc 7 it’s not we are seeing the untrusting side of Rem that doesn’t hinge on the past. Now the thing is that yes you can rely on someone mentally and emotionally but not to where it’s unhealthy which is what she does now she doesn’t always agree with Subaru but she barely puts up a fight to stop him if that even. And do the negative side of her shown in side stories no longer matter no they are just as important to the good things none of the things you mentioned are bad inherently but with Rem they are done in excess way to much of everything you mentioned but in arc 7 yes she still has those attributes just they are toned down.
@@thermophile1695 in EP 18 she rejected the proposal thinking on subaru not in herself, she's aways selfless till this point afterall. then she proceeds confessing for subaru's sake. if she thought on herself even with her self-loathing we get the sloth if
@@Haseo8 Very astute observation! That's another important reason Tappei decided to sideline her; Subaru has become much more interdependent during arcs 5 and 6 than he would if Rem was around. I'd argue that Rem figured out RBD before she got eaten. Those arcs would have turned into Subaru using her as the primary foci for all his plans and becoming dependent on her.
I strongly believe that Arc 7 Rem is best REM. Subaru and Rem will have a real responsibility now and once Rem can truly trust Subaru then we can get a full power Rem via Little King Power Up.
The best kind of Rem will be if she grows now and later gets her memories back, merging with the old Rem. That way she could overcome her past and her insecurities while still retaining her joyous old self and that strong love and devotion for Subaru, that so many people love her for.
Personally, merging with the old Rem would be very nice . However, I hope that it is the new Rem processing the memories of the old Rem than it is the other way around. That way, Rem will most likely have the strong individual self of arc 7 than an arc 3 Rem simply learning how to love herself more.
@@clementchung919 Hm, then those memories might not mean anything to her as she just might view them as someone else’s life rather than her own. That also would mean that Rem wasn’t able to love herself and died not loving herself, which is sad as heck.
@@Haseo8 That's practically what I meant. I'm a person who prefers arc 7 Rem than arc 3 Rem. However, I'm fine if the story didn't go as I preferred. I was never really viewed Rem as a whole for the series in the first place. I'm more interested in the world-building of the series than the character development( I don't hate character development of the series but it comes as a second as for why I read this series) .
THANK YOU! I've been saying this stuff for so long. I've seen so many people go like "Rem suddenly becomes a better person and it's unnatural." It's not unnatural because she hasn't become a better person at all.
Just like how Subaru boosted his self esteem by being deprived of his memories, I’m pretty sure Rem can use her experiences in Vollachia in a simular way as a reference on how her intrinsic personality is, in order to be able to love and understand herself and the way her brain ticks more when she finally gets her memories back.
Both Rem and Ram have obsessive mindsets towards who they love but I love them for it since it's fiction and I love Yanderes. I haven't read arc 7 yet but since I know Rem has no chance with Subaru I hope she moves on and gains a self esteem.
you are kinda right and kinda wrong. sure, rem has a ton of problems, which by the way exist and were born because of roswald wrongdoing. however she started to open up to others like emilia and beatrice, and even spend some time with ram adn emilia trying clothes or by herself decides to sip some tea with emilia and speak a bit of herself(3 side stories on it). its not like she hasnt a purpose or her character has no meaning. its just that the way she was, totally devoted to ram adn roswald and think of being useless and not important for anyone, is an hardcore sickness which will require her years to be healed consistently(and sure now she moved this to subaru). we see how she would have been withouth this damage in arc 7, so similar to ram but still with a lot of kindness which is deeply rooted in her. this arc will help her growth a ton since for once she wont have the damage of the past to weigth on her. and when she will get her memory back she will be a better person
Sorry, I have one more thing to say. Rem is a maid. A huge part of the way she acts and goes about how she fulfills her duties to her master and Subaru, is due to her maid upbringing. She’s only known how to serve, as a maid, she wasn’t aloud to have agency. As she and her sister lived at Roswaal’s mansion, they lived and went to bed as maids. There were no times in their ten years of serving Roswaal that they weren’t maids. They were maids 24/7 for 10 years. The maid life style is ingrained their minds. If we consider the way Frederica trains Petra as a maid, she was likely very strict about being a proper maid. So, that maid upbringing factors in big with how she conducts herself with Subaru, with the way she follows him. For 10 years she’s quite literally had no autonomy. No matter what Subaru had done for her, that maid mentality won’t just go away. She’ll always have that. That’s why it’s my personal opinion that she is not a yes man, she’s a maid. (You are free to disagree) Even then, there are still times she acts on her own and even tried to reason with Subaru. She still followed him after failing, but that isn’t because she’ll do anything he says because it’s Subaru, it’s because she’s a maid. It’s her duty and job to follow and support the one she is meant to serve or look after. It’s honestly astonishing she’s able to show more autonomy despite being a maid and even defy some orders. With her maid upbringing that should be closer to impossible for her to do. Though thanks to Subaru she was able to start having autonomy. It was still a very slow process. Realistically, getting over some of her issues would take some years, but she can’t do it on her, she needs help. Subaru was unaware of how deep rooted her issues were. Eventually, he would have had to confront her about them. Anyway, these are just my thoughts on the whole “yes man” thing. Is it good? Not really, but I wouldn’t call it bad either. It’s simply just how she was brought up for 10 years. It’s understandable.
Well at least is confirmed that rem would be an awesome wife , what I am trying to say that well focused both rem and Subaru can share time together in a healthy way
i wouldnt mind if rem doesnt fall for subaru again and just becomes close with him and she becomes her own character subarus gonna be with emilia no matter what so i couldnt see why she would choose to be a side lover again now that shes a new character. i lowkey dont want her to get her memories back now :/
She needs her memories back; that will show real growth. I want Rem to overcome her issues herself, while knowing her past. Rem could still love Subaru, but in a more "healthy" way.
1. She won't, don't worry. 2. Subaru promised Arc 3 Rem that he would marry her, that he would take her as his second wife. And I totally understand the feeling "fuck I don't want poligamy in Re:Zero, I don't think Tappei could do that", but you know Subaru, he would keep his promise even with the new Rem, unless she finds someone else, which I think will be the case.
@@djdrizzy9139 it's true and it's obviously hinted that louis have her memories so she will get her memories back and will love subaru again but not in a toxic way. She will stay beside him in the end and will not leave him but will still be happy and subaru needs her as his moral support so she will get her memories back coz without them subaru will get another fuckin trauma of being the only one to remember the events held during arc 3.
@@shieldsaint no he did not promise that. He said he's fine with it as long as Emilia is fine with that. That's all he said. Emilia also is not fine with it.
Arc 7 Rem is just more interesting and has more possibilities. I'm still sure that at some point she'll get her old memories back and be a combination of old Rem and new Rem which would make her a more dynamic character than just revolving around being super in love with Subaru. Overall all arc 7 Rem if used correctly could be used much more interestingly than if we just had old Rem back.
Its funny coz right after u said that Rem has no personality or character, u immidiately explain her personality n character via her flaws. Rem is the only emilia camp character who doesnt have her transformation yet, heck even Petra has some transformation. Removing memories are not actual character development, its just bad writing. I just realised this but if we're going by the ' _Rem_ isn't Rem due to memory difference' then shouldn't that apply to everyone else who got irreversibly memory-wiped/reseted due to Subaru looping too?
@@sdyeung Hmm... I don't know what to say but I'm not on board with Naoko's homework. It sounds too much like a "the ends justify the means" mentality, which to me is eerily close to Roswaal and Echidna. Her being a construct of Echidna's trial doesn't help either. I suppose I'm just being paranoid, but I don't trust Echidna when it comes to anything and that includes her trials and by extension her recreation of Naoko and Kenichi. It was wholesome, but I'll remain on guard since the whole thing was orchestrated by a manipulative Witch.
Not really, your past and experiences help shape what you are, Arc 7 Rem doesn’t have any of that. The people who are reset through looping are still the same people because of their past and experiences.
@@Haseo8 Their recent experiences differ though, which I believe is enough to differentiate them as seperate individuals branching from the same person. If we took broken codependent Emilia from the failed sanctuary loop and the Emilia from the final loop then I bet they would disagree on some things and behave differently in certain situations because their experiences affected their personality and outlook.
@@howdypartner8326 Emilia also managed to remember her past as well, which was one of the biggest contributing factors. Remember, she didn’t remember her past before the final loop.
Couldn't have said this any better. 👏👏
@@blast0940 100% agree Subaru suppose to save Rem quickly
It’s no different than Emilia.(especially since Rem is considered a heroine too)
Yo Drizzy, didn't expect to see you here.

How i first saw gluttony has now been changed
Also, I'll put in a quote from the snow OVA:
R: Don't worry, I'll just help myself by looking at sleeping Subaru's face a little longer than normal tonight.
S: Huh? Did you say something creepy?
R: No, I don't think I did.
If you wanna try to call that subtle, knock yourself out.
yeah that would be perfect, but i also can see tappei taking this happiness away from us too ;c
I cannot wait for something like that to happen. I’m excited myself, I hurst need to see how Tappei plans to take her character. I have faith in him.
@@Haseo8 yeah thats true she abandoned and told him to wait, she wanted to protect everybody in the mansion too
@@Haseo8 No in that loop she still sacrificed herself for Subaru hence why she just left him there and again during the whale and again during the cave she was happy to die for him instead of just not being impulsive since given her speed she could of gotten the emilia camp and dealt with witch cult easily.
Damn rem is like your very own asmodeus from iruma-kun to where he would do anything to please his friend and protect him from harm

I wouldn't mind if she got her memories back, realized Subaru is better off with Emelia, and started dating Otto or something.
@@blast0940
It'd be rough, sure, but he's quite aware of how unhealthy she is (citation: Louis parrots all of Subaru's worst views of his companions in arc 6), and would try to be supportive of her growth.
@@thermophile1695 (Sorry for the long reply 😂)
See I wouldn’t either, but loving Otto?
4:35 she is a maid and that is all she will ever be
I got that reference
I got it
Imo, Arc 7 Rem is very promising.
@@fanatic_hobo839
But imagine what would have happened if Rem had woken up in Arc 4 without memories.
Get well soon Remu-rin ;_;
Sadly many want her old self to go forever, I think that was a bit hardcore and it likes killing Rem and insert a new character instead.
I mean, a lot of her merch just shows her affection for him so that would be a waste.
Btw, I think I found you on fanfiction.net. I think you reviewed one of my stories if I’m not mistaken
Btw personal head canon is in her head, during the coma, she is going through loops of Rem:if/Sloth:if...
This isn’t the case: ram specifically states in arc 6 that rem isn’t even dreaming in her coma or experiencing anything or else she would feel it.

@@TritonSparrow i mean, its just a headcanon, you can believe what you want, as long as you dont force it on to others
- Envy: Rem (and arc 4 Subaru, before meeting Satella)
- Pride: Subaru
- Wrath: Emilia
- Greed: Subaru AND Emilia
- Gluttony: Shaula
It's really interesting, at least for me, to think about it.
When did we get an Envy IF-Route?
@@-namehiereinfuegen511 the Envy route is the main route.
Nicely put! Rem does have a personality; being obsessed is part of it. She has many distinct character traits (some that she needs to overcome), so I don't know why people would say that.

I love the idea of her living and acting for herself and not solely through her devotion to another person

@Ákos M. and X
@Ákos M. rem deserves to be alone (just like ram ) lol
I agree
The thing is with that then that’s the easy way to solve her issues. Her growth would feel a lot more significant and powerful if she actually remembers how she was. Also, don’t forget Ram. Rem has a sister who also deserves her back. So Subaru trying to regain her memories is not just for her and himself, but for Ram too. The amnesia should be to help her development, like it did for Subaru.
Rem (from arc 3) my girl, I love you and all but, you really need to go to see a psychiatrist and join a group therapy and talk about your love sickness.
Not just her love sickness, all her issues, she’s got a lot.
@@Haseo8 oh yeah I forgot her inferiority complex towards others.
@@Haseo8 indeed but I’m glad to know she has a chance to love herself and grow as a person
Exactly
It would be slightly sloppy writing to resolve Rem’s inferiority complex with the plot, so I personally expect arc 3 rem to return in some way or another
While Arc 3 is for Subaru to "Start from zero", and Arc 4 for Emilia, this time Arc 7 should be for Rem to "Start from zero".
Oh definitely, Arc 7 Rem has the potential to be really good. I cannot deny that.
@@ganges2264 nah I want her to never have her memories back
@@ggmr399 so like what's the point of her developing then ?

I mean if you really loved Rem you could just read the ss where you sse these things or not blind yourself to her growth as a person.
@@Blade_XV You’re right.
@Ákos M. True, but none of them compare to Beako.
Rem doesn't deserve subaru , emilia is going to say i love you to subaru destroying rem fans little hope forever lol
I do believe that Rem is just Ram that was born from Pandora fuckery and will eventually become Rams Horn again since how much it is foreshadowed.

You think Rem is relatable? Jeez what kind of life did you have
@@phines8499 Yeah, I do. Several parts of Rem I relate to.
Rem should get her memories back.
But she also needs to keep the new ones she making.
To quote Arc 6,
Louis: “Devoted and tries to dedicate gratuitous love, Rem! Foolish and beautiful, how pure. Surely she is an incomplete existence who gains the real feeling of living by becoming frantic for the sake of someone else, other than herself. Precisely that, must be led by the existence known as I!”
Guys what do you think about Rem being inside Louis right now( that makes sense because she is very attached to Subaru)
I have to disagree, her character was “Subaru character development”, without having really anything of her own
While I do agree with a lot of what you said, I disagree entirely that she had no personality. Almost sounded hyperbolic when you said it.
@@Haseo8
I think his point wasn't that she couldn't improve, it's that she wasn't going to. She was static because there was nothing driving her to grow as a character, not because she was flawless.
@@thermophile1695
Yeap, you got it. Rem herself feels at peace with who she is now thus she don't feel the need to change.
Subaru just need to guide her in Arc 7 so that she appreciates herself more and find a goal for herself once she had her memories back (if she ever gets them).
@@hakimke2
Subaru guiding her would make sense as a parallel, but the memories will have to return in my opinion.
@@Vord
Now that's actually could work better now that I think about it.
Arc three Rem really reminded me of this short story(reverse the genders in your head, here Ryan is the one with Rem's character flaws):
When Ryan was in college, he was a leading member of his fraternity. He
was in charge of organizing his house’s parties. He was a gregarious guy and liked
by most people. At one of these parties, he met Jane. Jane took an immediate li-
king to Ryan and the two began dating. Ryan would organize and throw his parti -
es, Jane would come and bring her friends. They shared stories, experiences and
interests. The rest of college went on like this.
After they graduated, Ryan took a job at a bank. Jane got involved in a
local charity. Ryan’s social network disappeared and his long hours at work killed
any desire for him to go out and make new friends. He began to spend more and
more time with Jane. They usually just watched movies and shared a bottle of wi-
ne. As time went on, Jane became more and more involved in her charity
events and began traveling to help with fundraisers. Ryan would spend this time
alone watching TV or maybe grabbing a beer with one of his old buddies, but it
wasn’t the same. After another year, Ryan would openly complain to Jane about
her trips. Jane obviously sympathized with Ryan, but she felt pressured and resen-
ted him for it. They began to fight more often. Ryan gained weight. Jane spent
more time working away from home.
Ryan decided to plan a lavish trip for the two of them to the Caribbean.
He could use the much-needed time away from work, and it would infuse their re -
lationship with the excitement and passion that it sorely needed. The trip returned
the romance to their relationship briefly. But upon returning home, reality began to
set in once again. Within a few months it was back to business as usual: him
overworked and irritable, her distancing herself and traveling.
Ryan began talking about marriage. Jane was hesitant. She stated that her
job was getting busier and she didn’t know how much she’d be around to plan a
wedding. Ryan had been saving much of his money to buy her a ring. Jane la-
mented that they were still young and hadn’t really experienced much of life yet.
Secretly, in the back of her mind, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Ryan was
terrified of just that: experiencing life, and marrying her was just another way for
him to escape it.
Dejected, a few weeks later Ryan began to complain that Jane spent too
much time with her friends and at work. Indeed, Jane had been staying at work
until way into the night, even on days when she didn’t have to. Ryan began pres -
suring Jane to move in together, but again she resisted, this time fervently. Ryan
exploded, he had been giving up everything for her the past few years and she
had been nothing but ungrateful. She retorted that Ryan had been suffocating her
with his demands for attention and affection.

*Subaru gets flashbacks to when Rem killed him, when Rem said that she loves him, & when Rem saw her die in arc 3
Subaru: we had a “complicated” relationship....
Yeah he’s probably gonna have a stroke trying to describe their relationship
Those final points were pretty good, nice video 👍

In my opinion I hope Rem gets her memories back, Arc 7 Rem is a little better but maybe with the events of Arc 7 and future arcs without her memories could affect her if she gets her memories, maybe she'll stop obsessing over Subaru and stuff

yeah i dont get people who think Rem was perfect back then, and this imperfection is what turns rem in more than a charcter, just like subaru she feels more human by her flaws and struggles, and that's why a like her, thats how i see it. arc 7 is just the chance to develop her character and that's awesome.
but i want to appoint another fact too, falling in love too hard seems to be a Demon's race trait or at least this twins trait, since Ram's love for Roswaal aparently can be self destructive too
also i don't think it was just the witch scent in arc 2 cause if it was, she would kill subaru no matter what he did, so it's a simmilar situation to arc 7 but since she dont have such a hatred for the witch cult she don't end killing him at first.
dont agree much with her having no personality too, much of her personality is shown in the same side histories you cited while interacting with other people like while teaching beatrice how to clean the library

“She had no real personality”
Not even a minute in and I disagree already.
“She is a yes man.”
That’s so wrong.
“She is dependent on Subaru”
Another misconception.
@@thermophile1695 in EP 18 she rejected the proposal thinking on subaru not in herself, she's aways selfless till this point afterall. then she proceeds confessing for subaru's sake. if she thought on herself even with her self-loathing we get the sloth if
@@Haseo8
Very astute observation!
When you said she has no personality, I thought you were bringing in the troll guns, but in actuality, it was deeper than I never I thought expected.
Rem's sickness is love same as Ram's, Roswaal's and Subaru's their love is too deep that they lose them self.
So Rem's lack of character is her character
(You are free to disagree)
Even then, there are still times she acts on her own and even tried to reason with Subaru.
@@SEWWWWWWWW Everyone deserves his/her memories back.
@@shieldsaint no he did not promise that. He said he's fine with it as long as Emilia is fine with that. That's all he said. Emilia also is not fine with it.
jakez you have uploaded a good logo of louise. She looks too cute here
Arc 7 Rem is just more interesting and has more possibilities. I'm still sure that at some point she'll get her old memories back and be a combination of old Rem and new Rem which would make her a more dynamic character than just revolving around being super in love with Subaru. Overall all arc 7 Rem if used correctly could be used much more interestingly than if we just had old Rem back.
Imagine Rem not falling in love with Subaru and friend zoning him.
Its funny coz right after u said that Rem has no personality or character, u immidiately explain her personality n character via her flaws. Rem is the only emilia camp character who doesnt have her transformation yet, heck even Petra has some transformation. Removing memories are not actual character development, its just bad writing. Just wait and see how tappei handles Rem and her transformation.
Dammn you salty
I think she will recover her memories, and they will merge with the new ones from arc 7
@@_KillerD_ I hope so
@@dillon7359 i mean, Subaru will probably get all the witch factors, so he will have to kill Louis or extract it in some way.
@@_KillerD_ she probably doesn't have her witch factor anymore, she doesn't have miasma
Brace for angry Rem cultist
and with them are me, but i understand
This might not be true as I read this somewhere else but didn't Tappei mention Rem was like super close to becoming Yandere
She has been a yandere in Arcs 2 & 3, no doubt about it.
**Q: Rem has shown several glimpse of a yandere in the story but if there are other yandere-like episodes I would like to hear it!!**
A:
Rem Rule 1 “Thou shalt not step on Subaru-kun’s shadow”
Rem Rule 2 “Thou shalt be careful not to breathe in the same air as him”
Rem Rule 3 “It’s my job to clean Subaru-kun’s room after he’s asleep and to greet him good morning before he wakes up”
**Q: Is yandere Rem-chan the type to kill Subaru? Or is she the type to confine him?**
A: She is the type to stand in front of obstacles in every way for Subaru’s sake, continuing to dedicate herself to it until she dies, no matter how many limbs she loses.
**Q: “If you sniff my scent, a corpse appears.(I’m not saying that the person that smells me dies)” It’s well-known that Subaru has this type of stinky scent, but what kind of stinky scent is it? I can imagine it being the type of smell that you would have on your shoes after walking in heavy rain, but is that about it? What would Rem think of Subaru if he smelled like that year after year? Would she come up with a “the extreme bitterness of this coffee is what makes it delicious” sort of theory? Or perhaps the power of love?**
A: The power of love. Rem would sniff Subaru to point that she wouldn’t even care very much about her own smell.
I just realised this but if we're going by the ' _Rem_ isn't Rem due to memory difference' then shouldn't that apply to everyone else who got irreversibly memory-wiped/reseted due to Subaru looping too?
Subaru’s Mother has the answer, and Subaru has told Emilia in Ark 4 / anime S2.
What about what Subaru thinks? He loves Rem back. He'll just abandon her previous self and his relationship with her because she loves him too much?
