India, Nigeria, Cuba blast COP29 deal; EU supports

Negotiators blasted the Azerbaijan host for hurriedly gavelling through a contentious climate finance plan on Sunday (November 24) at the COP29 climate negotiations in Baku.
Shortly before, the COP29 president, Mukhtar Babayev, had led the plenary in adopting a global finance target that would see rich countries providing $300 billion by 2035, increasing their previous commitment to provide $100 billion per year in climate finance by 2020.
Indian official Chandni Raina told the plenary that India had requested to make a statement before the deal was adopted.
The agreement includes a broader goal of raising $1.3 trillion in climate finance annually by 2035 - which would include funding from all public and private sources and which economists say matches the sum needed to address global warming.
