    My college roommate and I went to the record store and bought this album….took it back to our dorm room and put it on the turntable. Then the needle drooped and this song started. What an introduction to a new band….and it was HARD. We sat rapt through the entire album, scarcely believing what we were hearing, especially Dazed and Confused, which you’ve already done. One of the most exciting debut albums in rock IMO.

    As you both said, it happened to me in 1969. I went to a friends house ,aged 18, and he had just bought Led Zep's first album, and he put it on the record turntable, and Good Times Bad Times sounded out. And it was fabulous then, as it is fabulous now. And the whole album was fabulous then, as it is fabulous now. I still play my vinyl album of it on my turntable to this day.

    I was one of those people that bought this the first week it came out after hearing it on a New York radio station. Music was so different from the eighties on, there was good music after the seventies but the sixties was seminal rising out of folk, blues, Rock n' Roll (was originally dance & teen romance oriented), the seventies took the end of the sixties in many directions. Led Zeppelin was The Yardbirds to the power of two and beyond. King Crimson, Moody Blues, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, etc. were pushing an avant garde classical direction while still connecting with the blues elements of rock. Record companies hadn't yet quantified the sales models that killed rock in many ways.

    I'm 77 and this album came out while I was in college. I bought it immediately based on the advice of a trusted record store clerk. I put it on when I got home and it was a life changing experience.
    Most people pay 90% of their attention to the vocals in any song they listen to, but if you don't pay 90% of your attention to the interplay of the drums and bass in this song, you're missing the most exciting part of it from a musical standpoint.

    I was one of the lucky ones who bought this iconic album when it was first released. I purchased it based on the fact that I recognized the face of Jimmy Page on the back cover. I knew him from one of my favorite groups, the Yardbirds, one of the most unique and experimental groups in the history of rock music. I figured if he was in the new group, Led Zeppelin, it should be a group worth listening to. And, boy, was I right! My 17 year old mind was blown ! It went beyond the Yardbirds into new & powerful sounds unheard of before! And it still sounds ahead of its' time ....

    A banger right out of the gate, and I'm glad that you enjoyed it. Bonham did some incredible drumming and I think Andrei picked up on his triplets, which he performed on a single bass drum. Bonham wasn't considered a legend for nothing. 😉
    The next track, "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", is one of my personal favorites and it's a folk song like you've never heard folk before, I guarantee it. I highly recommend giving it a listen.

      @jmar7631 8 месяцев назад

      @@ursgeiser6570 Actually, I don't know of any better, but I don't listen to a lot of bootleg because the sound quality is usually pretty bad, especially of their performances in the 1960s, and it drives me nuts. I have a friend who listens to a lot of bootleg so I'll ask her. Have you seen their Danmarks Radio 1969 performance. It's pretty good.

    It’s hard to put yourself back in that time musically , having heard so much rock and metal by now. But believe me when I say that Jimmy’s solo playing, even on this first song and even though short, was electrifying then. Other than Hendrix, that guitar sound was hard and heavy to our ears….and fantastic! 😁🤘✌️ a new guitar “god” announced his arrival.

    I love watching and hearing your reactions to these classics. I was 15 when this album came out and it has remained a favorite throughout my life. This is in particular my favorite Led Zeppelin LP and I find often that debut albums can really cement a band's sound in in your soul. This album was so heavy and bluesy that I really connected to it. I love the entire LZ catalogue, but the latter works I came to love over time. What the British bands took from and American blues and added was so original and moving. Led Zeppelin definitely was a worldwide phenomenon. There was, a movement of great rock/blues bands that came out of the 60's, Yardbirds, Cream, Savoy Brown, Rolling Stones, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, Fleetwood Mac, Animals, Ten Years After, Jeff Beck Group to name a few. Keep mining the gold, I am loving your journey.

    All the members of the band were enamored of the old 1940s and 1950s blues singers Like Blind Lemon Jefferson, Howlin Wolf, Lightnin Hopkins. Many of these old songs have lines like "evil hearted woman" or "Devil woman" ect. Songs written about how women lead men around by their........emotions.
