Yes, depends what style of play you want and that’s Upto the coach , if you want a good running game/fullback with best attacking threats he is one of the best options , but if you want to go for a full back with a good kicking and vision you go for someone like dagg with his massive boot or someone beauden Barrett with his vision and variety of kicking/play making options, maybe you want a all round good full back like Ben smith , it’s completely depends on the type of team you want to build
I'd take barret over dagg, but arguably Cullen over barret, especially if Carter is at 10
Absolutely, Christian Cullen at 15. Rest of the team pretty much or close. Just shows why the AB's team from 2009 to 2015 was so dominant.

Beyond that I'd also argue for Michael Jones at 6 (where he played in the latter half of his career) and Zinzan Brooke at 8

Barrett played most of his games at 10 with Christian Cullen and Ben Smith played really well at 15, Ardie Savea still has games in him but would definitely makes a push at 8
With Carter at 10, Barrett has to slot in at 15 for me...I just can't leave him out.
Smith played as much wing as fullback behind dagg so really a toss up between Cullen and Barrett. Be stoked to have either
@@rugbybuzz fair point i guess but think cullen was the best 15 although injuries got him out really quick, there was a player i thought was the best skilled number 8 but again unfortunate for him injuries only got him limited games for the all blacks, this player was Ron Cribb, he had the speed, kicks, ball playing, defense but sadly only played 15 games or so

Most of the old guys are too small for the modern game, pine-tree was 6'3, Ken Gray was less than 100kg, Bryan Williams, considered massive in his era, 85kg, Ron Jarden 5'8" 81kg, Bruce Robertson 86kg.
Compare them with today's midfield pairing of Jordie & Reiko who are 6'5" & 6'3" respectively & weigh 102 & 103kgs.
The eras are just different.

Barrett is not in the top 20 AB fullbacks. Cullen isn’t even our best, sitting behind arguably Nepia, Scott and maybe even Clark. TBH even Ben Smith I’d put ahead of Cully - a more complete player who performed well over a way longer period
Coles over Fitzpatrick, so much more dynamic could also pass, watching fitzy bomb certain tries and then saying he's the best is crazy work, most would put mealamu ahead but Coles in his prime is unmatched.
Savea over lomu, blasphemy you say? Savea had a more rounded game, far superior defensively and could do everything lomu could do and he was doing it against guys the same size as him.
Cullen at fullback, barret on the bench, weird leaving out Tana but I get it, I'd personally have Rokocoko, Cory Jane or lomu over Howlett as well, I was just never a fan, always thought he was a one trick pony.
Not a bad team at all but I would make the following changes. C Cullen at 15, J Kirwan at 14, Z Brooke at 8, M Jones at 6, C Meads at 5 and O Brown at 3

You don't know much about scrummaging brown never played loose head and would not have technically suited it and Loe would not rate in our top 20 props

So Subjective & this only has players from the Professional Era - missing from this era are the like of C Cullen, Z Brooke, C Hayman, J Wilson, K Mealamu, D Coles, J Rokocoko, O Brown. While J Kirwan, W Little & M Jones cross the period rugby went Pro & Pre Professional the likes of C Meads, W Whineray, B Lohore, B Robertson, R Jarden, B Williams, K Grey, K Skinner, K Tremain, I Kirkpatrick, S Going, G Nepia etc. These guys start ahead of your team everyday - Lock - Meads over either, Prop - Whineray, Brown or Hayman over Franks, Flanker - Jones or Kirkpatrick over Kaino, Fullback - Cullen or Nepia over Barrett, Wing - Jarden or Kirwan over Howlett & potenially Robertson over Nonu

Because no players before 1986 , none from the great teams 1905,06. 1924,25. 1956 , none from the great teams of the 60s none from the 1978 , how much research have you done ? It was a tough one!
We could make up many great All Blacks teams, with a mix of many generations. It is probably better to have a team for each 20 years (generation).
There are players from the 60's (era of the 100%ers) who would absolutely excel in the modern era. Props like Ken Gray, Keith Murdoch, Jazz Muller (who could run like a back), Pine tree Meads at lock, Kel Tremain, Ian Kirkpatrick, Waka Nathan, Brian Lochore in the back row (no wonder they were unbeatable).
In the 70s there were Bill Osborne and Bruce Robertson in midfield, Graham Mourie (probably the greatest captain as he won with arguably the weakest ABs teams), and trapper Loveridge, the half back who had it all.
You could build top teams from the 80s and 90s, and of course the 00s and 10s as listed in the article.
No world 15 is complete without Christian Cullen at 15 (called the Paekakariki Express). At his best literally unbeaten for speed and change of direction (check out youtube for Cullen and enjoy).

Yeap - and the luxury the All Blacks have is there are equally as good players that could take at least 10 positions, the likes of Maccaw, Carter Lomu, Nonu, Whitelock and Woodcock are always in this 15.
Maybe Zinzan Brooke ahead of Read and Frank Bunce ahead of Smith....this is definitely the best All Black team of the last 20 years

ah, this is just my list buddy! We all have an opinion! I had to have B.Barrett in there...Carter obviously takes the 10 jersey so B.Barrett has to slot in at fullback...I wouldn't mind Cullen, but I just cannot leave out B.Barrett!

This is just a silly list. It only has players from the last 15 years apart from Lomu. So many players left out. Colin Meads would probably be the first picked. Much as I love Beauden Barret there’s NO WAY he’s the best fullback to EVER play for NZ, Kirwan would be in before Howlett anyday of the week. I could go on and on and on………
