Are we just gonna ignore the fact that the creators of emo “rights of spring” aren’t even in here. In my opinion they’re number 1, but if they were anywhere in this I would be fine.
Emo is a style of hardcore punk from the late 80s that later overlapped with indie rock in the 90s. Bands include Captn Jazz, Jawbreaker, Rites Of Spring, Embrace, Sunny Day Real Estate, Hoover, Policy Of 3, Texas Is The Reason, early Jimmy Eat World. Pop punk is not emo. Post hardcore has some resemblance to emo. Panic! At The Disco is no where near emo. At this point they're pretty much pop and they have always been more of a mainstream band with almost no resemblance to punk. Fall Out Boy is not Emo. Paramore is not emo.

Jimmy eat world is one of the greatest emo bands without a doubt, I've listened to the full libraries of everyone in this video for years. Dashboard confessional is my favorite band of all time but Jimmy eat world absolutely shreds to this day.

I’m actually impressed watch mojo made a video about emo *where most of the bands mentioned are actually emo*. I've seen several comments from several people who are trying to say "where's Pierce the Veil, Black Veil Brides, or Sleeping With Sirens? These bands aren't emo!" First off, just because you haven't heard of a band, because Alternative Press hasn't spoon fed it to you, doesn't mean it isn't that genre. Second, several of the bands you claim are emo, are either post-hardcore, metalcore, or pop punk. Dashboard Confessional, Brand New, Sunny Day, Jimmy Eat World, Thursday. Watchmojo got it right. Maybe they could've included a few others (recent bands like Moose Blood), but for the most part it's correct. Stop letting Alternative Press or Rocksound or whatever, feed you the same bands over and over. Branch out and discover new bands on your own.

i love how out of all the bands the one with the most active fans is my chem. the fact that theyre dead! & still can manage to tear up a comment section proves how memorable and overall great they are. i love them dearly and theyre the #1 most influential "emo" band in my opionion. they definitely stand out among this list and every other band.

You could defo argue that mcr was the biggest emo band but Sunny Day truly inspired most of the popular emos bands of the 2000s. I initially avoided bands like MCR because of some of the whole label/fashion trend that defined emo in the mid-2000s. It took me too long to find out that MCR was a mix of things from hardcore punk, Queen level stadium rock and theatrics with the darker introspective lyrics of the Smashing Pumpkins or Radiohead.
I guarantee the ones who are complaining about MCR being 3rd also shop at hot topic and talk about how it feels home and draw Panic at The disco and Pierce the veil logos in their notebooks and say no one gets you. No one gets you because you’re the reason emo is looked at as a joke

Emo is a style of hardcore punk from the late 80s that later overlapped with indie rock in the 90s. Bands include Captn Jazz, Jawbreaker, Rites Of Spring, Embrace, Sunny Day Real Estate, Hoover, Policy Of 3, Texas Is The Reason, early Jimmy Eat World. Pop punk is not emo. Post hardcore has some resemblance to emo. Panic! At The Disco is no where near emo. At this point they're pretty much pop and they have always been more of a mainstream band with almost no resemblance to punk. Fall Out Boy is not Emo. Paramore is not emo.

I've seen several comments from several people who are trying to say "where's Pierce the Veil, Black Veil Brides, or Sleeping With Sirens? These bands aren't emo!"
First off, just because you haven't heard of a band, because Alternative Press hasn't spoon fed it to you, doesn't mean it isn't that genre.
Second, several of the bands you claim are emo, are either post-hardcore, metalcore, or pop punk.
Dashboard Confessional, Brand New, Sunny Day, Jimmy Eat World, Thursday. Watchmojo got it right. Maybe they could've included a few others (recent bands like Moose Blood), but for the most part it's correct.
Stop letting Alternative Press or Rocksound or whatever, feed you the same bands over and over. Branch out and discover new bands on your own.

I initially avoided bands like MCR because of some of the whole label/fashion trend that defined emo in the mid-2000s. It took me too long to find out that MCR was a mix of things from hardcore punk, Queen level stadium rock and theatrics with the darker introspective lyrics of the Smashing Pumpkins or Radiohead.
