Interesting. I have major problems in my right foot and ankle and I want my doctor to take it. Constant pain and discomfort but I have an Xterra 6 speed manual but I think with practice I could adapt to this system.

Fantastic video for many people it’s a surprise when ur Dr. has ur driving privileges suspended. In my friend’s case, diabetes caused peripheral neuropathy of the feet. And 80 years old he’s must start the dive game over. Thank u for the informative. Hopefully we can secure the proper training for him in Ontario.

Great video! I wish you were closer (I’m in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California) so that you could help me navigate the bureaucracy that it takes to get this installed in my car.

In numerous videos I've seen, people have preferred to put a knob on the lower left part of steering wheel, while here both positions are on the upper part. Are there actually any recommendations or everyone just does what feels the best in each particular case?

Just an FYI. If you have been driving with portable hand controls and know what you want for permanent hand controls, you can skip this OT training, by getting the endorsement/restriction on your license through the DMV. You can take the driving test at the DMV with your portable hand controls. Once you have the endorsement/restriction for hand controls on your license, you can go straight to the installer. If you have no idea what you need, or have no experience with hand controls then go through an OT for training.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! For others who may be reviewing this, for safety reasons, we do not endorse the use of portable hand controls. There is a higher risk for malfunction and errors when the equipment is not properly installed by a trained professional - QAP certified. The National Mobility Equipment Dealership Association has a wonderful Q&A page that addresses this and other concerns. NMEDA is the certifying body for the nationally recognized Quality Assurance Program (QAP), the only accreditation for auto mobility businesses in North America.

One other thought, many states DO NOT allow for you to have adaptive equipment installed in your own vehicle until you have obtained the appropriate permission on your license. Please always be mindful of your state's laws and licensing procedures.

Thats why many are going with portables.

Exactly! I'm not jumping through hoops to get the equipment I need. Either sell & install the equipment without the hassle or I'll just stick to portable controls. I've been driving disabled for 30 years. I don't need someone taking up my time and making it a bigger hassle than it already is.

Awesome setup, one question remains for me can a non handicapped person drive the vehicle with use of pedals without hinderance from the adaptive driving controls? Thank you for the video.

This is an excellent question! This video highlights some 'low tech' options. All of these options still allow other drivers to use the vehicle in its original form :-) In fact, there are methods for turning off or disengaging the equipment if the vehicle is being driven by someone like a valet or mechanic. Only individuals trained (and in many states licensed) to drive with the equipment should do so. Great question ! @uvaldoordonez8353

How do I get to you? My left arm is weak and need to drive right hand only due to broken elbow. I like how secure the ball is compared to ones you just buy and install yourself.

Each state has their own rules & regulations around licensing with adaptive equipment. The easiest way to figure out the rules for your state is to connect with your local OT driving specialists or CDRS. Could I help you find someone to connect too? Some states require you to pass the test in the instructor-modified vehicle before you can have the equipment installed. Other states allow you to practice with the equipment in your own car and then test.

I use mine with cruise control all the time without an issue... my car even uses sensors to slow down with based on the distance from the car ahead of me and my Veigel doesn't effect that function at all
