Who am I?
Flying blind
Scorching heat, black skies
Dark shadows asking “who am I?"
Left behind, pushed aside
I need order in the chaos when I’m flying blind
I know the way (you better pray)
I’ve done enough (you won’t measure up)
Looked down upon by the masses
Unending streams of ruined dreams
Empty accolades feel like razor blades
Leaving me wanting more
Never sure of my standing
My trembling feet can’t find the floor
No matter what I do
I feel I have something to prove
In a world where right and wrong don’t belong
There is no sense of what is justified
The higher I climb the further I fall
The hand that held me then now holds me down
Judgement day means reckoning for you
Give me your time
Sit down and talk
No one to point the blame when no one’s at fault
My disaster began when I looked up
On that day, all I’ve done
My disaster began when I looked up
I was both compelled and condemned
I struggle so hard
I do my best
How can I find a single solitary day of rest
Is it what you’ve done, or what you’ll do in me
I need to know so I will find peace
Belief is believing what you cannot see
Giving all you’ve got out of all that you need
Endless arguments with myself
All that remains is the shame
There’s no case to be made
Punched into total darkness.
If what I’ve done imprisons me
Then your will sets me free
The villages are crumbling down
Making right what’s wrong won’t make the lost found
Theres an arbiter
No one escapes
The standard we have for others will be our fate
I’ll swallow down the words you serve me graciously
I’ve done this all before
I’ll hold it all inside until I break away
I’m tearing down the door
The fear cannot contain us all
I’ll make the cut just deep enough to sting
I just wanna break free
Rip your claws from my side
I won’t just die quietly while you prey on the innocent
I will break free
The reckoning won’t bring you hope
Death below on a tightrope
Take your hands off your life
It won’t consume you
The altar will give you life and not kill you
I set my sights on the impossible
Endless debt making grace unstoppable
The most consistent metal band ever. Absolute masters of their craft.
And their live shows are so good. Damn near perfect every time. Seen them live 13 times since 2007 and it’s never gotten stale
Spot on!!! The only band that makes me want to pick my house up and run with it.
I'd argue them and the Deftones are the most consistent for sure. Killswitch used to be consistent when they had Howard Jones (at least for my likes/preferences), but are now so generic once Jesse came back.
@@Batman1084CKcounterparts and misery signals can be tossed is there
Somehow, they’ve taken themselves to a new level. Unreal. This band never ceases to amaze me.
Only a decade behind btbam lol
@@russellny8086 Completely different bands my guy.
How did they take it to the next level? 🤔😒🤨
@@sycofya1677 in song length? haha
@@0owmjapo0 lmao 💀😂
8 minute tracks are all the rage in 2023 so far, and I’m HERE for it
Same here bro🤘
0/10 false advertising 😂😂😂
Lmao dude between the buried and me have been doing it over 20 years lol been going to btbam since 2002 saw them in October couldn’t even tell you how many times I’ve seen them.
@@russellny8086 yeah you tell them whos the better band!
@@russellny8086 lots of bands I love have been doing it for a long time. Progressive metal is where I live, but metalcore is what got me started on metal. It’s exciting that more and more bands are breaking away from the industry standard of 3 to 4 minute songs and voicing more creative expressions that aren’t as time bound.
Matt is from another planet. One of the best in the game.
Who is the better matt?
Matt greiner or matt garstka?🤣
Both incredibly sick!
@@MichsensHansens I meant Matt Greiner but both are insane drummers.
Just saw these guys last week. Go buy tickets for their show if they're coming near you and show some support! 20 years, man it's hard to believe! This band just does not disappoint! We did the VIP passes and got to meet the band. They couldn't have been cooler to speak to. Props to Matt on the lyrics for this one. This is a heavy track
I'm super excited to meet them next month!
I’m going nyc April 14th my buddy going Massachusetts April 15th 🤘🏼
Saw them in Silver Spring MD last week! Always great seeing Matt, him and I have known each other for a few years now, I take drum lessons from him 😁
Saw them a few days ago, energy was ballistic and moshing was insanity!
$150 to be in the pit is a bit to steep for me.
The part with spencer hits just different, love the vibes
Very dark and atmospheric, pairs well with the visuals. Interesting sound they've come into, this album is shaping up to be rather ominous.
Just what I've been waiting for! I love their lighter sound too but this is the dark gritty sound that got me into them back in the messengers days. They have honestly gotten heavier. They tune lower and Jake's growls have gotten way deeper! Love every bit of it
Glad to see you again! I def agree with you, this and Ancestry made me wonder if they have gone through some rough times lately (despite the obvious everyone went through)
One of the few bands that never changes their roots and still evolve. Favorite band of all time
You and I both sir. They will play an album at my funeral and there better be a pit lol
@christianrodriguez5226 haha same!! Texas in July close 2nd, New music :)
Wow man.. long time august burns fan. This is just unreal how amazing this song is
Matt's lyrics are just like his drums, amazing
Matt wrote this one? I thought Brent wrote the lyrics
@@mr0mime Matt and Brent write the lyrics, Matt does write a lot more than most people think.
@@mr0mime The video description says:
Composed by JB Brubaker & Dustin Davidson, Lyrics by Matthew Greiner
@@DFGdanger ah i see, thats what i get for checking it out at work and not reading the description. thanks
@@mr0mime Matt, Brent and Jake all write lyrics with JB and Dustin rarely doing so as well. JB wrote the lyrics to Spirit Breaker and Dustin wrote the lyrics to Carpe Diem. Jake wrote the lyrics to Ancestry on this album. He didn't have any on the past two records (Phantom Anthem and Guardians).
this is a combination of everything good that ABR has to offer. Definitely the best single so far from this album. Also love the AI art in the video
ABR the only band that doesn't change their style much yet there's no compromise in the music they deliver!
This is just soo damn perfect.
I found these guys in 2007 while I was in the Army, thanks to the loader on my tank plugging his mp3 player into the crew comms. ABR comes on right when we hit the range...the most epic stuff to play as you are rolling down a range in a 70 ton beast, engaging targets with main gun. We was vibbing so hard, my TC left it playing to whole run. We shot top tank on that run with a 980/1000 score. They have and will forever hold a place in my heart for that experience...and are a solid #2 on the best metal bands to ever exist...Amon Amarth will always be #1 sorry.
❤
Listening to this just now feels like the first time I heard The Seventh Trumpet.... I'm blown away!!!
It’s the first song the have released since 7th trumpet that was longer than 7 minutes. And they have another one this long on the record too 😍
The lyrics!
The music!
The song length!
EPIC!!!
spencers vocals when he comes in.... ooooof.... chilling.
These lyrics are 💯. They usually are...but dang boys. This song truly demonstrates the talent this band has. Musically all the way to lyrically is 💯. Love this band
Im so excited for this album 🤘🏼
Can’t wait!
This felt old school! They never miss, man. There’s just no one like them.
ABR can’t miss, ever. But let’s give it up for Sharptone as well 👏🏻👏🏻 The beasts of metalcore right now.
ABR and Periphery have aged like fine wine 👌
My two favorite bands! There are some parts that sound djenty af wonder if Misha helped play an influence on JB for this record.
Masterpiece. Ups and downs the whole way that keeps climbing until the climax. Then that breakdown at the end brings you all the way back again on a bed of clouds.
This is what August burn shred should've been doing after constellations. Perfect direction.
Came up on an ad. These dudes just keep getting better
3:45 made me smile so much
One of the best August songs in a long time.
That would be their last single before this.
Definite Between the Buried and Me vibes on this song. Love Spencer's vocals
Do not compare those 2 bands just bec it’s an 8 min song 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@russellny8086 Its not just because of the 8 minute song. I've seen them together on tour a couple of times and they have called them an influence in the past. It's more so the technical aspect (also assuming the guitars on this track were written by Dustin) with that extra progressive sound.
@@russellny8086 btbam is very much an inspiration for jb so its not ridiculous lol
@@russellny8086 you’re really on here trying to actually say that between the buried and me are better than ABR? You have to be the dumbest person in any metalcore comment thread I’ve seen.
@@russellny8086 Yeah adding to the other commenter, this isn't the first time BTBAM's influence has been heard on their music. I remember when Found in Far Away Places came out, thinking to myself "oh those genre shift midway through songs are so BTBAM".
So long as this band is together, I will be catching every show in Lancaster and Harrisburg Pennsylvania. Never a disappointment.
this song just feels like the band standing in front of a mirror flexing for 8 minutes. Best track they've done, for, sure!
Btbam swim to the moon 18 min 💪🏼🤣🤣🤣
@@russellny8086 Now THAT is a flex!
@@russellny8086 the tool of metalcore boring pretentious music that goes nowhere BTBAM
Backfire?
This was the perfect track to end on this song is all gas no brake.
Amen
Their transitions are breakdowns!
All their stuff Is a big breakdown.
@@luisrodas297 yup
This songs gets better and better with every single listen. This was probably my tenth listen, including some reactionary videos. Wow, such intricate details. It's just beautifully heavy.
Glad to hear Spencer on the album. He definitely killed it.
spencer killed this feature. really fits with this style.
Best song I've heard from them in years. I haven't heard anything that I like better than the constellations sound/album yet, but damn this is good.
I have no idea how a band can make a genre better when they already perfected it Oh yeah, august burns red!! 🤘
I have listened to the "Then your will sets me free" breakdown so many times now. I love that Jake goes "freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee yoooo" so freaking heavy hahaha. This is going to be such an amazing album! Glad I was able to see them in Raleigh 2/16!
They're in a league of their own. They've just gotten better and better with time.
Underoath was my all time favorite band growing up, then I found August Burns Red not too far after that. And now ABR and Spencer did a song together, dreams do come true
Exactly.....
2:35 grooved my face off
erra esque syncopation !~!
@@gavinc6366 you're exactly right!!
A slower tempo Broken Promises, some Vanguard, a little Standing in the Storm... mixed with some BTBAM influence but yet a modern ABR sound. Amazing.
Damn write. I could tell those influences were here and it makes me so excited for the new album! Been dying for some more fifap vibes
God they are not btbam not close
@Russell Ny Look up what the word INFLUENCE means...nobody said they were BTBAM. Hang in there, its not so serious.
@@russellny8086 get off btbam’s nuts! You can’t stop mentioning btbam 🤦♂️
Hahaha this guy going through all the comments to cry every time someone mentions BTBAM. Get over it kid.
I would love to see a drum playthrough from matt to this song😱
I really don’t care about anyone that says wrong about this song. Musically and artistically, it is other worldly.
Damn... Is it just me or does ABR just keep getting better?
Love when abr djents in the one part
Absolutely magnificent song and ending to this album ❤
ngl this took me on a journey.
That build up from the six minute mark onwards is just fucking unreal. Couldn't be more stoked for the album!
That ending riff 🤘🏻
one of my favorites from them to date
The guitar and drums fill my soul with pure joy
Punched into total darkness. Thank you.
Love their lyrics.
Spencer Chamberlain from UNDEROATH WOWWWWWWW
Just saw underoath 2 weeks ago
"when I looked up I was both compelled and condemned" damn that is a heavy lyric.
I was just pondering that lyric as well. I take it as any person looking up to Jesus, realizing his majesty, then seeing your own corrupt nature, being both compelled by his word and condemned by your own filth, coming into a life long contract with the him. Very deep stuff.
Like you guys never skipped a beat. You guys managed to show up ten years later and sound like like August Burns Red from then. Still in your prime. Still sounds good and sounds like you're still inspired. Don't stop. Honestly surprised and impressed by the new stuff. IStill get chills from seventh trumpet meridian and indonesia to this day.
August Burns the Great Line 🔥
Since I was in my early teens, I always wanted to listen to a collaboration like this. It took so many years but it was really worth. I loved it!
This album cant arrive fast enough! This song really takes you on a trip! Keep raising the bar gentlemen!
ABR are one of the goats of metalcore
How is it that heaven sounds like this pure joy?
Can not wait for the new album!
Another banger
I reckon this album will be amazing!!

Masterpiece
i cannot fuggin wait for this album
7 minutes well spent, Loved this feat, Underoath and ABR, such a great combination
Can not wait to see them live tomorrow!
Hi Matt! I've been to 2 of your concerts now. My Dad drove me to Seattle to see you at SoDo and then again in Spokane, WA at the Knitting Factory where I live. I was calling your name and you were looking for me but you couldn't see me. I have 3 pairs of your Vic Firth sticks and wanted to see if you would sign 1 for me. I will bring them to every concert I go to just in case. Thank you for being a good Christian role model for a kid that loves God, love the drums and loves thrash metal. You are my favorite drummer!! Owen
Damn! Those visuals🖤
SERIOUS
Absolutley killer track.
If this song doesn't get you absolutely stoked for the album I don't know what will
I have no words , very moving
true love every freaking time
"Rip your claws from my sides. I won't just die quietly, while you prey on the innocent. I will break free! Oh!"
bruh. 3:40 is heavy af, i love this!
absolute masterpiece im only halfway through the song non stop goose bumps homies!
Best single so far. That's what I enjoy listening from these guys. Keep experimental and heavy! Thus, great lyrics!
Wow😮
Unreal! Next level!
Well damn...that was an experience!!!❤❤❤
Theres something about these songs that (i still enjoy and are good) are missing that wow factor. Idk, just in my opinion I think dustin is an amazing musician (as they all are) but since he’s taken over a lot of the writing I just haven’t been as drawn or jaw dropped by the songs. JB’s written songs have always been top dawg. Not trying to be mean, just my thoughts. I’m expecting hate for it.
I can kinda see what you mean tbh. But can’t speak for everyone else on the “hate” part haha
Love it. Feels like they are taking some chances and getting a little weird with the writing. And I love it.
From the Building , sounds it like a little bit like , Provision ❤️🔥
Oh hell yeah!!!! Every time I listen to ABR, I get on a melodic and lyrical high!! 🤙🤙🤙🤙
Between Backfire and this, it's shaping up to possibly be their best album yet.
Am I the only one that feels the mixing is a little flat? Great songs so far but sounds a little flat compared to previous albums
@@tyler8918 Yup. Mixing doesn't sound as good as the past few albums especially the drums. The toms, snare and kick are the loudest in the mix and it doesn't allow the cymbals to pop like Guardians and Phantom Anthem.
Just saw these guys on their 20 year anniversary tour. I know the metalcore scene will always be a polarizing genre but it was at its peak for me growing up in high school and I still have love for all the bands in the genre but to see these guys be so consistent for 20 years and to be with the same line up since messengers is pretty wild. My music taste has definitely expanded since I was a kid but I will always love the metalcore scene especially ABR
These next few months brings us so much good music...ABR, Invent Animate, NF, Gideon, Hopsin.
What a mushroom trip of a video 🍄🌌
Golly Gee wizz! fellahs this is peachy keen! I got chills throughout this dope video. boy-howdy am I excited for this album. I love whenever ABR expands their music in so many different ways. ya'll are the bees knees!
This is a masterpiece of a song
Would’ve been sick if they played this at heart support fest! Still 🔥🔥🔥
Their set at heart support was 🔥🔥
Hope i get to see these guys in Nashville my childhood will be complete
So nobody gonna talk about that part at 2:52? Fire.
A masterpiece
Most technical breakdowns I've ever heard
🔥 probably one of my new favorite songs from them both of my fav singers in one fucken song how crazy is that !!! 🔥💯
