Tilt-A-Whirl

Yet another Classic Ride at the Circus City Street Fair in Downtown Peru Indiana. The Tilt-A-Whirl has been spinning guest of carnivals and amusement parks now for over 80 years and is one of the most popular flat rides ever invented.

There is another ride called Tip Top that I loved. It’s a turntable type ride but you get to make the tub you’re in turn with a turn table in the middle. The entire platform tips by hydraulics, putting another dimension in the dynamics.

I remember that ride and it made a noise using I believe air compression that raised the table platform. We use to spin so hard it was hard to exit the ride when it was over.

Yeah. That hiss of the hydraulics was an integral part of the experience. We’d spin until our hands had blisters.

@@MiamiCOIndiana My best tear down time was 1hr 50 mn. Theres a bit of heavy lifting, as many pieces are serious metal. The tilt was a good workout!

Yeah I thought those metal plates that has the track on them had to be very heavy. Thanks for information this ride certainly has thrilled many of people in all the years and still does to this day.

@@MiamiCOIndiana The plates, tubs and center the spokes traveled on typically were lifted with an electric or manual winch. However, moving all these pieces by hand is a lot quicker, just takes a little more brawn. There are trailer mounted tilts, that unfold. Old skools like me will always prefer ground mounted iron.
