Clear and direct instructions. Just keep in mind that for some steps, the video makes it look a lot easier than it really is. For instance, at about 1:20 in the video, the top is just lifted up, but on my washer-which looks almost exactly like the one in the video-the top can get stuck and needs to be wriggled loose. Similarly, threading the back rods when the washer is lying down is a little tricker than it looks, and it will likely take you a few tries.

Video was helpful, although I need to add my observations on when I changed mine. Water came out immediately after I disconnected the water exiting hose at the base. Remember to put a towel there. Secondly, get a friend or a screwdriver nearby when you need to re-attach the new spring rods and you need to put the retaining balls that go around the rods. The washer tub will have excess water in it. It wasn’t a big deal taking off the old springs and retaining balls but it sure is when you need to feed the new ones in and have to hold the weight of the tub and push/hold the rod through the retaining cup.
What I needed to do since no one helped me was push the new rod through the retaining cup and then slide the screwdriver through the hook and lay it horizontally on the lip of the cup. This keeps the rod from sliding back down. Then grab one retaining ball with one hand, then lift the hook. While keeping the screwdriver horizontal. Then you should be able to slip the retaining ball onto the rod. It’s not easy, but using the screwdriver helped.

Thanks for the SHORT video that does the trick! You told me everything I needed to know in 6 minutes. I hate when people drag out a video on bs that doesn't help me a bit. This instructional is an awesome find. I was able to order the kit and fix my washing machine for the price of the kit and 1 hour of my time. Initially when I had call 2 local repair shops to look at the machine they wanted to charge me $200 for the diagnosis of the problem even when I had given them the code the machine was blinking. I thought to myself BALONEY!!!
I'm mechanically incline. I'm gonna do this. Between my boyfriend and I we just finished and the washing machine is washing like new. Thanks again for the video.

Great information shared. Detailed and sequential to allow for a successful replacement of the rods. One consideration for me, when I got to removing the front rods when the machine is placed on its back was to install the rods and secure them to an inner edge for easy access when the machine is placed in an upright position..again great video!

Awesome. Exactly what I needed to fix the extra wobbling and noise after 7 years of use. I needed an extra hand when it was time to hook on the hangers at the top again. You have to pull the new springs pretty hard and lift the center part to pull the hanger hook high enough. Then the other person can get the twisty top on properly. It you had some pieces of plastic or wood to wedge the center piece with the tension on the springs you could probably do it with one person... Worked for me.

Thanks for the help. The procrastination was worse than the repair. My steps were a little different, since my hands were greasy. Once I got the fronts out and slid back in, I sat it back up and attached the fronts, then, unhooked the back from the rail. Then back over. I just disconnected the power cord, slid it out and tilted it against the hoses, instead of laying it all the way over.

Excellent video! I have one suggestion. When lifting each rod to install the new ball support, I found I couldn't grip the rod tight enough and it would slip down before I could get the ball support on with my other hand. Using a rubber glove on the hand holding up the rod allowed enough grip to get the ball support on.

Ok great tip, use the old suspension rod and on the hook side bend it 90 degrees about 8inches from the hook. After you do that you can reach down with one hand and hook the new rod to pull thru. This gives you significant leverage and makes it so much easier on the other hand to install the new ball supports

Replaced suspension rods and still didn't solve the problem. Then I replaced Washer Drive Block which solved the problem. Definitely get yourself the spanner wrench. It's worth it! I tried to remove it first without the spanner wrench and it didn't work. Once I got the spanner wrench, it was super easy. Replacing the Washer Drive Block solved the possesed washer machine problem.

I tried all these fixes to get the washer to stop shaking. Here is how I fixed it. Take out the tub, it comes right out after removing the center bolt. Flip the tub upside down and shake it. Remove the $2.50 in coin trapped between the two parts of the tub. That's it, the shocks are fine, they slide on the rods, the springs are fine if not broken. Washer works like new.

    • @algunoscuenticos
      @algunoscuenticos 3 года назад +4

The suspension rod has a plastic piece that moves a little up and down, in an old rod this piece is too loose. In another video, a guy explained that this can be considered a defect in the design of the rod. Each time the piece looses friction, the machine starts to shake and we need to buy another suspension set.

  • @charleskimbrough1723

pay attention to the end of the video. Notice how loose & sloppy the tub is.
Their is a reason for this. The Machine is still missing 4 springs which keeps the Tub centered.

an't understand why the whit piece not being stationary causes this. It seems the weight of the load is pushing down. Not arguing the point, just don't quite understand it.
If that is the problem, maybe the spring is still good and the cap can be made stationary. Might try this as I deal with this from time to time with these washers. Some of the rod assemblies are very expensive and can make the repair cost prohibitive for resale.
I do have an idea or two as to how this may be accomplished.

You did forget one step. When removing the old bushings clean all the bushing seats of any possible dirt, grease or soap film by wiping with a cloth. If any grease accumulated on the bushing surface you can clean it with a rag with some alcohol. If not, simply wipe them out of any dust/dirt and resume the installation. Do not use any grease in the bushings or seats.

You make raising the rods from the top of the machine look so very simple. My rods are near impossible to lift, even using a vicegrip to help pull them up. Did you put something like a stool, under the washer to raise the tub before removing the rods, that didn't show up in the video.? Or another way to lift rods, as simple as you did it? My rods have the weight of the tub pushing them down and impossible to lift them up. For your help please.

Exactly! My tub weighs a ton. There’s got to be a work around because deadlifting thus much weight with one hand isn’t realistic

Watch another Video, mine had the 4 silver springs missing from rods attached to tub rim (on top) (since I bought it I guess). Bought the 4 silver springs Buy the new Washer Counterbalance Spring Kit 285901. Hope this helps.....maybe if they had them from purchase date....this would not have happened to us. Peace! (I replaced rods & shocks x4 also)

One thing for sure: Buy one of these and this maintenance will be required: repeatedly.

That suspension rod appears to have alot of moving parts and you never identified which part was responsible. I guess the customer has to buy a whole kit instead of being allowed to dis-assemble and replace ONLY the defective part.
