Dude I would LOVE to interview you! I love and have forever loved your music, and aspire to be a composer myself! Heck, we even share the same last name. It would probably make my decade if you were to allow an interview, recorded or not. If you see this, just know you are my inspiration, and I so graciously thank you for being, well, awesome. If you don't see this, that's alright. I expect to get a response, but it would be AMAZING if I did. Thanks, Jaxon Powell
Yeah, I’ve been feeling that lately too. Been feeling like a pos composer lately. I feel proud about something I wrote and then I hear something the masters wrote and then I’m like “welp, time to retire before I make a fool of myself” haha
I agree it can be really tempting to feel like that, but remember that John didn't get to his extraordinary composition level overnight. Took him a life time of experience to get to where he is now, and he is still improving with every score he makes. You can do it :)
@@Hudson_Holland I was just messing around a bit, of course, but that's clearly some great advice. Just took a look at your stuff, by the way. Really cool. My advice to you is to not to listen to grumpy old farts like me too much and take your own words to heart. You're in your teens, for Pete's sake! Don't give up on your dreams, my friend. Go Hudson! Subscribed. 🙌🏼👍🏻
I went to watch this film solely because of the soundtrack- and it did not disappoint! Thank you for the work you poured into this! What a phenomenal score
The movie is great, but what makes it better is the music. The combination of a simple plot, beautiful music, cute characters and humor simply created for me probably the best film of 2023
It feels great to see you back on RUclips, John! I saw Migration back when it came out during Christmas, and I gotta say, your score for that movie was INCREDIBLE. I can’t wait for your next scores to come out! 🦆🎞
This blows 99% of track breakdowns you see from people who make electronic stuff out of the water in terms of musicality and technical skill (I am one of those people 😂). Look how crazy the automation is. Such a beast of a composer/arranger.
This movie has some of the best thematic musical material I've heard in a while. I'd love to hear your perspective on what you call them. There's clearly a "Mallard" motif and many reinterpretations of it. There's a "flight" motif, as far as I can tell. And then there's the gorgeous I -> v figure that I interpret as "wanderlust" or "call to migration", and it's just everywhere, and its just sooooooo good. I love this score so much! When a motif is played dozens of times and you still can't get enough of it, you know the composer absolutely nailed it!
I clearly wasn't paying attention to the credits when I saw this movie. I remember thinking, "Wow, the guy who did the film scoring is very good; he clearly was a fan of the HTTYD music." Turns out it was the same guy!
Please Jon, release the version of the movie or a more complete version of the soundtrack of x men the last stand film versions and alternate versions of pieces
Mmmm. It's almost as if every single composer has certain stylistic tendencies and musical choices that they gravitate to, making most of their musical output uniquely traceable back to them :P
Honestly one of the greatest composers of our time.
True
Ok

Right. Well, that's my cue to quit composing, buy a log cabin and, I don't know, herd sheep instead. I'll get me coat. 🤦 It's been real. 🙋
Yeah I feel that

I absolutely love your work!!!!! 💜💜💜
Bro really cooked this soundtrack 😂😂
This sounds amazing
God bless You and your music
Your work is amazing, this is such a fun video to see behind the process!
Your style is quite unique, it's like Hans Zimmer and John Williams scoring together...
Amazing.
I don't expect this guy upload yesterday lol
Now THIS is how you do a RUclips channel!
Pure masterpiece
Such incredible writing, very whimsical I must say
Thank you for sharing!!!
Bro cookin 🔥😤🔥😤🔥
Wow what an awesome piece! I love your film scores and absolutely love the use of the accordion in this
The track is waking up all sorts of mathematical equations and colors in my VST-esque understanding of how music works.
Oh My YES! Yet another thing to learn from and do some learning from!

I love this Score soo much, would you mind posting the Mockup for "What Else is out There?" as well ? *pretty please* ;)

Oh 😮 100k subs
What strings does John Powell use here and how does he change it from legato to stekato.
Lovely! But what about uploading a video with sheet music instead of piano roll? 🥺
wow and way beyond wow, how do i train my DAW-gon
John Powell Isolated Score He’s Coming
post the whole soundtrack
👍
Please Jon, release the version of the movie or a more complete version of the soundtrack of x men the last stand film versions and alternate versions of pieces
OMG..
1:18 Was there originally a theme here? Why can’t I hear anything? @John Powell
The notes are blacked out, most likely muted, a remnant from an early version of the cue.
Like @nd0136 said, these are muted notes. If you play them back, they play the Mallards motif. I thought it was cute.
the bloody accordion?!
mate.
Lol, ngl sounds like httyd music
I wonder if jp is annoyed that in every video he posts there are 300 comments like that.
Mmmm. It's almost as if every single composer has certain stylistic tendencies and musical choices that they gravitate to, making most of their musical output uniquely traceable back to them :P
Sounds like angry bird music on accordion
could be the same composer
