#jeopardy
I got it right, but was second guessing myself, because the way they worded the question makes it sound like the country they're asking for has 14 neighbors
Same here. I thought "Wait, China's border with Russia is a lot bigger than that." Then I realized I had the wrong "it".
Yeah, I really feel like they should have reiterated Russia instead of saying "that country." Very confusing wording.
I'm kicking myself on this one. I had it down to two countries. One on the east side of Russia. One on the west side of Russia. I went with the wrong one.
My guess was "What is Finland?" The other country I thought about was the correct response tonight.
Dumb move on my part.
There was another clue "11-mile border" and this info was on Jeopardy! Second Chance (2022 Group 1, Finals Day 1) so this was easy for me
Totally agree. I also don’t understand why the category was “Countries of the World” when “Countries” would have been sufficient
Got right away, but started second guessing myself with the way the question was phrased.
The key to this one is definitely knowing where Vladivostok is geographically!
I didn’t know, but from all Russian neighbors I remembered, I somehow got North Korea
Especially with the bizarre way they worded the second part of the question
Extremely poorly worded clue. Makes it seem like DPRK has 14 neighbors
I’m relieved tbh 😅
Same. I was worried for Adriana. The lead kept going back and forth between her and Ryan but Adriana managed to maintain her lead as she did in her regular run. I'm glad she advances to the Finals. I can't wait to see how she does there!! Let's go Adriana!! 😄😄😄
North Korea has 14 neighbors? This clue was very confusing.
Adriana Harmeyer being a finalist was what I needed to see as she would’ve won her 16th game in her original run had she not had the misfortune of playing against Survivor contestant Drew Basile.
I got this one right!! I know my geography pretty well! 🌏
My first guess was Norway
Got it right away. I'm sure this clue was used in the past.
I guessed Mongolia. So, their border is much longer. At least, I was in the right part of the world and did pick a country that borders Russia. 😅
There is an ambiguity here in this question. "That country" is not clear. In the question, it should refer to Russia. However, it can also refer to North Korea grammatically. The problem is that North Korea does not have 14 neighbors, or any other country that borders Russia.
China has 14 neighbours and borders Russia! That is the deliberate confusion with the wording, except the border with China is much longer, so it had to be Nth Korea
The Super Champion is super cute.
Fun fact: 15 game champion Adriana Harmeyer is the first superchampion since 40 game champion Amy Schneider in 2022 to advance to the Tournament of Champions Finals!
What's funnier is that Adriana is also the first superchampion to play in her respective TOC within less than a year of her original appearance since Amy Schneider, who played from November 2021 through January 2022. Because of the writer's strike, Cris Pannullo and Ray Lalonde (who both first played in late 2022) had wait over a year after their initial appearances (February 2024) to return. Both lost in the quarterfinals, as well.
@@mr.timetraveler8784, I expect Adriana to become champion in this year's TOC.
Didn't know where Vladivostok was, guessed Afghanistan
Since when does North Korea have 14 neighbors? It only has 3, and Russia is one of them.
Russia has 14 neighbors.
This question was poorly worded
I do appreciate when a contestant guesses an answer It may be a “Hail Mary” answer, but it’s better than leaving it blank.
Nice tough question! I missed it, but currently reading In Siberia by Colin Thubron (highly recommend!) . It's amazing how gigantic Russia is
Yes, which is why it's often compared in size to the Moon.
"Countries of the World", as opposed to "Countries of the Moon""?
Adriana Harmeyer's statistics going into the Finals:
*Disclaimer. These statistics don't take the exhibition game into account. I haven't seen it, nor do I know how to. Apparently, it aired before game 2 of the Champions Wildcard Finals and I didn't know until today.
Daily Doubles: 18/51, 13 of which were right
Final Jeopardy: 14/17
Coryat Score: $16,529
Adriana answered 364 questions correctly in 17 games and 38 wrong.
Seeing who Drew's playing against (Drew and Neilish), it's not very likely that we'll see a rematch. 😭
It’s going to be confusing to have Drew and Drew in the same game.
First FJ I’ve got right this TOC!
Lived in S Korea and remember seeing Vladivostok on the weather map.
I remembered that they had a similar clue a couple of years ago, but the correct response slipped me 😅 As for the "14 neighbors" phrasing, I actually figured straight away that it was talking about Russia, because if it HAD been in relation to the correct response, the only other country who has land borders with 14 countries would be China, and I'm sure everyone knows that the Chinese-Russian border is WAY larger than 11 miles, so it couldn't have been the correct response lol
Congratulations adriana on advancing to the finals on friday well done
If the show felt the need to present these multi-day champions with this extremely easy clue, it is because the contestants (including the so-called "masters") usually do not fare too well in this category.
The phrasing threw me way off.
Considering what's going on recently, was it appropriate to do this category at this time?
Tomorrow's lineup is Amy Hummel, Mark Fitzpatrick, and Isaac Hirsch!
Here are their statistics:
Daily Doubles:
Isaac Hirsch: 20/30, 14 of which were right
Mark Fitzpatrick: 17/21, 13 of which were right
Amy Hummel: 8/21, 3 of which were right
Final Jeopardy:
Isaac Hirsch: 7/10
Mark Fitzpatrick: 2/7
Amy Hummel: 4/7
Coryat scores:
Isaac Hirsch: $20,200
Mark Fitzpatrick: $16,400
Amy Hummel: $13,686
Isaac answered 265 questions right in 10 games and 44 wrong.
Mark answered 149 questions right in 7 games and 26 wrong.
Amy answered 124 questions right in 7 games and 24 wrong.
I hope Amy wins! 😭
Yes, team Amy, too.
I had a comment all typed about how awkward the question was worded, but after a couple tries to redo it myself I think its just a hard question to put in sentence form.
It was deliberately worded that way to try and trick people to answering China, since it also has 14 neighbours (but ultimately a much longer border with Russia than 11 miles)
Imo, this was too easy for final jeopardy. I was surprised that Will didn't know where Vladivostok is. Knowing that it's Russia's major far eastern port city immediately narrows the answer down to North Korea, since China's border with Russia is quite long.
My heart dropped as soon as I saw the category. Remembering Matt Amodio and Amy Schneider losing in the category Countries of the World, this was the worst category to come up for Adriana Harmeyer when she didn't have a runaway.
SPOILER:
I shouted "YES!" when I saw that Adriana answered correctly!
At least, Adriana got it right and won, unlike Matt and Amy.
Got it wrong. My guess was Azerbaijan
Jeopardy Final: 5/5 stars
Category: 5
Love this type of category.
Clue: 5
Filled with juicy tidbit helpers. Two contestants got it right!
Fairness: 5 Straightforward.
Time: 5.
Fun: 5. Entire family can play along!
I got it wrong!! 😂
I love that you include the number of players who got it correct in your analysis. I think it’s ideal if one or two get it.
I think that (FJ, specifically the last phrase) was a badly worded clue. First "its" clearly refers to the answer, however, "that country's" could refer to the given country's name (Russia) or the the answer, too. As all my English teachers would say, that sentence is ambiguous and needs to be rewritten with clarification. I mean, we know Russia borders 14 countries, but it implies another country borders that many countries, too. I call that a trick question, er...clue.
Of course, I kept circling back to Russia's shortest border and was counting all the countries that could be considered "neighbors," though without borders, to that other country and couldn't get to 14.
"that country's 14 neighbors" ? Which country?
Russia It says so right in the clue
@@1musamune The wording is ambiguous. It could be referring to the country bordering Russia.
@@stephenwodz7593 ambiguous maybe, but easily solvable via context clues definitely.
I knew where Vladivostok was, so this was an easy clue, but it was phrased very very poorly, as many others have noted.
I'm shocked at how easy that was. I guess they were hoping people just didn't know where Vladivostok was?
Easy, yes, but confusing as Hell. Several people thought the clue implied the answer _also_ had 14 neighbors and had people thinking "neighbor" could mean in the surrounding vicinity rather than actual borders.
I don’t know if anybody will agree, but I really don’t like that the top three players didn’t have to play in the first round of TOC. And, I especially don’t like that they’ve set up the games so the top players don’t play each other in the second round. It feels rigged to me.
Holy crap I got this because I binged The Recruit season 2 last night lol
Spoilers
Will Wallace barely survived Double Jeopardy after questioning the last clue of Black Mystery Month. If he gets $0 or negative, his game would've been over immediately before Final Jeopardy.
He looked kind of shell shocked at the end.
Thought this was extremely obvious... to the point of it being a trick question. surprised all 3 didn't get it
I got it quickly enough I would have tried to write out the long form of the name
People's Democratic Republic of ... 🇰🇵
Worst worded question ever.
I'm confused. What 14 countries are neighbors to that one? I understand 4 but not 14. Can someone explain
Russia has land borders with these 14 countries: North Korea (the correct response for this clue), China, Mongolia, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia (not to be confused with the US state), Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan. The majority of them were former Soviet states, for obvious reasons.
Spoiler block
Am I the only person who went "#%@{[ €¥%&^ doesn't border 14 countries?" I guess they were referring to Russia having 14 neighbors. It's grammatically vague, but if you have the encyclopedic memory of that region required for jeopardy, that wouldn't trip you up for long.
It might seem a little vague, but for me, it immediately came up to "well, the only country I can imagine neighboring 14 countries, including Russia, at once is China, and I think I'm very sure that the Chinese-Russian border is _way_ larger than 11 miles, so the clue must be referring to Russia itself, and not the response" 😅
Duh! I was stationed in South Korea for a year!
But the answer is North Korea.
poorly worded clue
kind of suggests that the 'answer' is the country with 14 neighbors
Should have read something like: 'Of Russia's 14 neighbors...'
What is the DPRK. That's what North Korea calls itself, btw.
