Exultant work!! The 18th century is one of my favorite centuries of history!! I too, am a historical reenactor, and the work we do is so important to our worlds history. Great work!!
People who work at Renaissance Faires have these Tents, mostly the Piveeters or Pirates have these. I do this work, I do Elizabethan Renaissance and I am working on Victorian. And I got a cousin who does Civil War. Its more fun to be involved in these things than to observe. And I love it.
My Dad was big time into the history of the American Civil War and the Revolutionary War. When I was little we all had period appropriate costumes for each war. In Somerset County Pennsylvania they hold something called Mountain Craft Days. That is very simular to this. As for the Civil War. My Dad was part of the 3rd US Infrantry that was run by Charlie Smithgaul of Lancaster Pa. They would shoot Civil War Canon's in competition using live rounds shot at targets. Sadly my Dad passed in 2011 and Charlie passed away last year. So I'm not sure what will become of the 3rd US Infrantry.
my unit normally does war of 1812, but we brushed up on research for expansion into the rev war and in the works or recreating the second maryland regiment from the eastern shore and building the kits.
I had 8 ancestors that fought in the American revolution. Some of them under George Washington. RIP to the Jacob,Josiah and Ezekiel Flanders, Elijah Moore, Joseph and Daniel Sargent, Samuel Ellis and Ebenezer Johnson.
So I take it the guy who was in the right brown jacket suit thing on, I take it he's the one who played george Washington? Inerways good video.👍 and thanks for sharing! I'll bet if Washington was here today he would be like "holey smokes you ladies gorgeous in them dresses"..lol. Inerways it's nice to see you guys are trying to give a idea how things were that time during the revolutionary war. Cuz nowadays hardly any body knows how to cook food on open fire. But some of what technology they had looks awesome especially with the horse hair lazer thing.
"P.S. I A Retired/Disabled Electrician, of General Dynamics/Electric Boat.....& Now Volunteer Reenactor With The Gloucester Light Infantry, R.I.M.1774'-1776-1783',......!"I Am a Captain With My Unit; "Gloucester Light Infantry, Company Doctor/Surgeon, Dr. Joseph Warren, Doctor/Surgeon For General George Washington & The Continental United Line!"
How does one get into this sort of thing? My interest in American history, particularly this time period, is fairly new and I don't know where to start. But I'm just fascinated with this period in time and these reenactors are so passionate about it!
IMO, the gateway is learning how to sew historical costume, and then looking up social events to wear them at through museums, ie. maritime and preserved famous locations, restoration grand openings such as those of the Big Boy steam trains, and even popculture conventions such as Steampunk. Steampunk conventions are great for entry-level IMO because they're casual and full-on fancy-free regarding period accuracy. All such resources as these doubtless have social-media profiles such as Twitter & Facebook, and half the time even their own webdomains. But if all else fails, just start something up, such as busking in costume, and let people find you. Talk Like a Pirate Day is the perfect popularly-acceptable excuse to strut 18th Century costume around at random in a crowd like it's what you wear every day. (What has this free country come to when we need social excuses to wear anything but unimaginative street clothes and approved-Counterculture crap like all-black!)
Exactly I agree with you 100%! Sure history may not be prefect but it's who we are. And reality no country on earth has perfect history either, just some countries history a bit better than others.
Swords are way harder to learn they are over 10000 moves with short swords more than calvary sabers plus in rome italy with real metal swords they beat the crap out of each other they are one guy that uses real sharp gladius swords right now 23 this year have died from fighting for real people do watch but they can record the fights but cant post it plus you have to train for 2 years in italy do it they do it in Germany as well since they started in 2012 over 80 has died
The re-enactors bring their own tents. If you are interested in this you can reach out to our participating re-enacting units and they can tell you more about how to get involved. www.mountvernon.org/plan-your-visit/calendar/events/revolutionary-war-weekend/#callout-4
Truly fascinating. It brings pages of history books alive.
It really does! I felt like I had been transported to the 18th century.

True respect for the accuracy and quality of the Mt Vernon productions. Great work.
I would love to be in a war reenactment! This looks so cool!
Looks like I'm going to have to stop by for a visit next May
Very cool video, cheers for uploading
I think it’s nuts that they perform actual amputations during reenactments. That’s some dedication for sure
The guides in the videos really know their stuff!!!
9:43 that guy in the background dropped something
Vermont Ants I don't see it
Alexander Hamilton it was more like 9:43

I love this stuff. I live in the western united states. And we have nothing like this. One day I hope to go back east.
If you come back east, be sure to stop by Mount Vernon! Revolutionary War weekend is every (early) May!
Goodness, you guys need an EMERGENCY hatter on-site.... These Spirit Halloween store Chinese tricorns are making me cry.
At the time the hat was not called the tricorn but rather the cocked hat. Tricorn is a terminology that came along later in time.
Im so glad Im close to mount vernon
We're happy to hear that, come visit anytime!
Me to I live about 5-10 minutes from mount Vernon
I was in a medieval re-enactment group. I quit, was very friendly or did much historical or period. I would like to join an American Revolution group.
Where abouts are you?

Looks good! Where do you guys get your clothing?
The majority of the reenactor's at this event were not Mount Vernon employees, but Jas. Townsend is a very popular 18th century clothing supplier.
George Washington's Mount Vernon how old do you have to be to reanact
No age required!
People in the regiments make them, our you can find the venders that sell them
Are you so post to be in it or you volunteering?
Do we buy the tents or do the people who runs it give you it

Long shorts?? They're knee britches. Please teach this guy the terminology. It speaks to his credibility, or lack thereof.
At 0:52 he called a cocked hat a tricorne 🤦♂️
First
the Big ....W.........such a biblical person as his proportion's may be.......lol
Dude really just called breeches long shorts.
So what. That’s a good description.
I think the Americans might have been able to win the war if they'd had more time.
They did
@@AZrakoon
I think he meant on our own
Most revolutionary Soldiers did not have uniforms! So that continental uniform they are wearing is not accurate.
So civilians clothes are more accurate? When did get issued a uniform? Or did they never get any??
Where is part 2?
