As many have pointed out - including you - the problem isn't Barcelona but you're own depression. I've been here 2.5 years and love every minute of it. I ride my bicycle all over the city (and outside the city). Every morning and evening I walk my dogs through my neighborhood or take them to the beach. I joined a cycling club and established friendships. I also work from home, so you have to actually make an effort to get out and meet people. But this is true every place you would live.

At least you're in an amazing city in a wonderful country. I live in Philadelphia, where you run the risk of being robbed at gun point after the sun sets. You have two choices of life in America: unsafe cities or drab car dependent suburbs. Be thankful you live in Western Europe, a much safer and frankly civilized part of the world. Life could be worse, you could live in the USA.

If you live in a rainy, colder place, it doesn't make you feel bad when you spend some time inside. Barev dzes Aris! Thanks for the video! I'm about to move to Barcelona and also have that problem with staying inside most of the time. I'm working remotely for more than 10 years already, even before that became a bigger trend. And I think Barcelona can be the best chance to change something in the lifestyle because there are many places you can work in, like cafes and coworking spaces, and there is so much to see apart from work. And also it's important that the city has a developed transportation system and it is quite flat in the majority of its area. If you ever lived in Istanbul, Lisbon or San Francisco that are literally located on hills you know why I'm stressing this as a great advantage. I'm quite optimistic about Barcelona when it comes to balanced lifestyle for remote workers.

Really clever and cool editing. We are looking at moving to Barcelona. We’ve been living in London and we have the exact feeling you do living here. So it’s not the city, it’s the new challenges. Then my brain reminded me, "No, pound sterling." Then I freaked out. Glanced at apartment rental prices and had flashbacks to San Francisco. So, yeah, Barcelona feeling pretty good at the moment, though I completely sympathize for many residents that the city is getting more and more expensive to live in relative to wages.

Great video, and it brings up a critical topic, which is can someone have a true self-reflection of what makes them happy and keeps them at peace inside themselves. The most critical thing is to honestly answer or find out which one of these two types of people you are: 1) You need to take energy from others (extrovert) and are not happy unless you spend some sort of time around other people interacting OR 2) You do not require energy from others in order to be happy (and this can apply to isolationists to introverts to people who feel the same whether in social circles or being alone).
I live in America in a gorgeous custom-made house in the suburbs. I am retired go to Europe all the time. I often dream of moving to places like Barcelona or Florence or whatever. The issue is I do an actual self-analysis and the social structure that most often revolves around alcohol consumption or 9pm food binges for 2-3 hrs is simply not my style.
I like early mornings and walks/hikes, nature things, bicycles, etc. The advantage for that type of activity is just as good in America then Europe. So bottom line is everyone should do a self-analysis. Unfortunately for me I want my cake and eat it to which would be: November - March Orlando, FL; April-May Barcelona/Florence; June-August Swiss Mountains or San Sebastian or someplace cool in the US like Oregon Coast/Utah/Colorado mountains; Sept-Oct back to Barcelona/Florence. HA
There is no perfect place, so if you do find out you do not need to take energy from people to be happy, then do not let social stigma confuse you for years on end and instead embrace the fact you can be happy inside/outside in a mountain area, in downtown Barcelona or on a boat sailing the seas or in an RV camping. When you see videos like this where all of those people had to travel to the top of that hill to meet up with strangers to drink/smoke in order to satisfy some emotional bonding need embrace and feel happy for them that they like that but do not feel weird if that is not your style or something you must have to feel happy with your own life.

I was in vacation and just came back. What i didnt like about Barcelona was the concrete jungle the lack of nature and the super urbanisation. I went outside daily and yeah it felt good mostly but not like all the time. There is nature on the hills and everything but there are surprisingly few things to actually do that dont cost money. In my town, there are more things probably because also the feeling of concrete everywhere is much lessened. For a big city Barcelona doesnt seem very diverse. I mean sure there are some things to do but its more like in the same range i feel. For a person staying there i guess you can join clubs and everything and the options diversify. As a tourist though there literally isnt anything to do other than shop, eat at a restaurant or bar and walk, thats preety much it. I guess that is the experience as a tourist preety much everywhere, still i feel my city has more free events and things to do even if its a smaller one.
What i also didnt like sometimes was the scores of people everywhere. Also in bars there wasnt much music and never heard like music in the streets with very few street artists, and when they were there wasnt any bench to sit on. Surprisingly in my city there are more benches and you can listen to music while you go to the piata. i liked the dynamic nature but if you really look into it there arent many interesting urban spaces in Barcelona at close by. Sure, there are if you walk or drive but then you are in a totally different place and no its not really like that in my city i can go there and find interesting places.
Also the way streets are organised its the same pattern. Its great because its predictable and you know what it is and have easy access but after a while its just boring. It would be less boring if smaller buildings were there. you can find smaller buildings like in Saint Andrieu but its a distance. I guess if you are not bothered to move so much the experience changes. Still even with the metro or car it would take some time through the trafic.
It has a different feel to it. But yeah to stay inside in Barcelona is like crazy because then in small apartments there really isnt anything to do and it just double sucks.
Being a big city i felt kinda a pressure to do something to be on the move...

I actually think the ratio is not bad at all haha I do agree about street performers though!! There could be more 🥰

@@MoreLife_Aris im from Timisoara and yeah if you think its enaugh nature then cool, i guess it depends where you lived and how you got used to it. For me i dont like that there is no grass everywhere, here it is. no river in the city, here it is. in barcelona i havent heard any bar putting music so i can hear it from the street here i heard from day 1 and its a smaller city. there are many good things in Barcelona for sure, i mean even with those limits i liked the time spent there a lot and had fun, its a fun engaging city, dynamic with some nice people, friendly, interesting...and its refreshing that i dont think anyone was rude which is rare considering that invariably you have to meet some not so ok people in a big city but it wasnt like that. i mean sure they are, but havent experienced them. i imagine that if you are ok with the level of nature, the concrete jungle, then you are great. surely as a person living there its a different experience than as of a tourist which has a limited range. what i would have liked? more things to be open. surprisingly a lot of stuff was closed. even some interesting museums had like 10% of the museum open, it was great but too little. still im not complaining it was a great vacation.
I guess cities suffer nowdays not just barcelona with a lack of meaningfull activities. maybe because i was a tourist, but still i do think there could be more in Barcelona and it isnt like its such a full of music city for example. i was also 2 years ago and kinda the same thing, the music was not playing. Here for example there is more loud music, there is even street music from the bars that changes things.
I dont know i guess i like that type of things getting used to it. There was a show in Barcelona but honestly here they make better shows like with artists if they prepare for an event, the spanish style is well, different i guess. The music wasnt that great, maybe its just my perception...
The carnival in Barcelona was great though.
All in all i come to see what is good in one city and in another one and came to the conclusion that really my city has some complementary things from Barcelona and yeah some big minuses too.
Another thing, its very hard to find a toilet in Barcelona a public one, here there are.
What i also didnt particularly like was that walking areas were so full of people like on La Rambla and Placa de Catalonya that its not so nice to walk as it could be. Also on the beach tons of people want to sell you smth and you have to move further away from them to escape the marketing. Here no one is coming on the street to sell you smth.
Yeah the architecture in Barcelona is something, a small problem is that im not used to big buildings and many times cant fully appreciate all the details because the building is too big.
Yet again its subjective. In eastern europe here there is a different style and many people might not like it, plus the city my city has many minuses compared to Barcelona but ive discovered also some plusses.

Sorry but this title is clearly a clickbait... you basically said yourself why you don't like so much your current life, which is basically cause you spend too much time at home and feel alone cause you don't know anyone in the city. Which is 100% understandable, we've all been there, but Barcelona has many events where you can meet people and so many places worth visiting and learning about. So go out and open yourself!
And by the way, the bunkers used to be a quiet place 10-15 years ago, and now it's a bit scary how crowded it is...

Belgian here I used to live in Barcelona for 6 years absolutely love it I the beginning... After the Covid pandemic I knew it was time to go to another chapter of my life after a few months in France (near Montpellier) I decide to come back to Spain but...in Madrid and I definitely love living here. Barcelona lost its soul lost its creativity victim of over exposition and mass tourism. Madrid is more a vibe and now the city is sparkling. Most of my friends also left the city. I still love to come back to Barcelona but if you ask me "should you come back to live there?" the answer is "Definitely not !"

@@MoreLife_Aris Yes Madrid is an amazing city. Great food, an amazing nightlife, blue skies, a lot of parks, a lively art scene and friendly local people. The downsides are hot summers and cold winters because of the situation of the city set in the middle of la Sierra and surrounded by mountains but it is clearly manageable and you are just a few hours from Barcelona and Valencia thanos to HST. Barcelona is a gorgeous city but Madrid is a vibe. You should definitely visit it but it is not a kept secret anymore.more and more people are moving to Madrid now and this city is really cosmopolitan.

Amazing content! Immediate sub! Saw you replying to a lot of the previous comments and instantly made me write this one.. Some context about the question: fully remote worker wanting to move to barcelona or another city in europe like warsaw, lisbon, helsinki and a couple of other but reallyyyyy leaning more towards barcelona. Are you happy with your decision? I saw your content, the trip to iceland and overall focus on - doing more outside of the home office - and thats my plan as well. So, if you would choose all over again.. still barcelona?

I love seeing them coming haha So I made this video more than a year ago and honestly I feel much more happy about the home/life balance but there is still much more development needed… but this is a very personal thing! If you re less lazy than I am (or awkward) then Barcelona had tons of possibilities to have an interesting life outside your home! I never regretted my move to Barcelona so I would definitely recommend it! You just need to understand that this is “city life” and need to be open to that haha but the life here is great and affordable! (Except rent which is expensive compared to the rest haha) hope this helps! If you move here let’s meet up!! And thanks for the sub!
