Am I missing something? Isn't Venice in a lagoon that is connected to the Adriatic Sea? I know that Venice built a flood barrier that keeps Venice from super flooding from the Adriatic during high tides. So if there is too little water coming from the rivers, why not just open the flood barriers just enough to let enough water into the canals so that sea ambulances can operate?
The problem is you don't want to have to much salt water in the city. Normally it's a mix between a good amount of fresh water and a smaller amount of salt water. Salt water is a lot more corrosive then fresh water. A part of the city is built on oak stumps. Greetings and have a nice day

I remember seeing a documentary several years ago about rising water levels in Venice. Seems like the short- to medium-term future of Venice will be pretty unpredictable with rising temperatures evaporating water *and* melting ice caps.
It's a large misconception that melting ice caps will result in rising sea levels, since ice has more air than water within it. But what does happen with melting icecaps is the deregulation of water currents cooling, causing a fluctuation of the water level to become more sporadic. Warmer water expands which causes the levels to rise.
Lack of water actually produces a far greater threat than flooding in Venice due to the foundations of buildings (a lot of the time they’re still wood) being exposed to the air, making it rot and weaken and inevitably breaking.
not just that but the mud the pilings has been sunk into will dry at varying levels from spot to spot - this means the pilings and any rock foundations may be completely shattered as the ground moves due to daily or cyclical "wetting events" and dry phases.
This is due to a very normal low tide which happens every year, the only odd thing is that it's lasting longer than usual and is exceptionally low, but it has happened before and it was even worse. The issue does not derive from the draught as stated but because this low tide happened at the same time with very high pressure air in the Mediterranean which is keeping the water low. Climate change has nothing to do with it, that on the contrary is rising the water levels in Venice over time, but I realise that it makes for a good headline.

I'd say this is a reprieve that they desperately needed. If any of the officials had half a brain, they'd use this opportunity to reinforce all the buildings and implement measures to either keep the water out of reinforce the buildings against it. Because I think this might be their last chance to save the city before the water comes back, probably worse than ever, and they're completely unable to stop it from sinking or all the buildings (that weren't made to be underwater 24/7 for decades at a time) from crumbling

LEARN TO S.P.E.L.L. The word is LOSE !
It's lose* and also what aquatic life lives in the dirty canals of venice? Even if there were fish there who cares if they die.
I remember a few years ago people were saying GO there before to late. because it will be completely covered in water in 10 more years
I thought the sea levels were rising 😢
Oceans*
Wasn’t Venice under water last year?
I'd use this as an opportunity to both clean up the canal system, but also reinforce the city's infrastructure and check on the flood gates. So that when the floodwaters do come back, things will be up to date and will be easier to manage.
Facts
Wait? Weren’t they just having flooding problems?
Crazy that not too long ago they were saying it was rising too high 😑
I thought they where in danger of overflowing tho. What happened?
Weren’t they under water not long ago, so many drastic weather changes happening…
Hold up is the drought dying up the ocean?
This happens every year for goodness sake ! Venice is a tidal city high tides, low tides , it's fed by the Adriatic, this event combined with a full moon making it a bit more pronounced than normal , what the news doesn't show is that the canals rise again when the tide comes in ...sheeesh .
Is venice not sea water? Why would melt water matter to it?
It always looked so pretty 😍
Isn’t it surrounded by sea , so how can it dry up ??
Good, that place is disgusting. It's literally sewage.
Thought that the sea level was rising?
XD, I remember people use to say that Venice would go underwater. But nope, not at all XD
If the polar icecaps areall melting, why is Venice all dried up?
I'd say this is a reprieve that they desperately needed. If any of the officials had half a brain, they'd use this opportunity to reinforce all the buildings and implement measures to either keep the water out of reinforce the buildings against it. Because I think this might be their last chance to save the city before the water comes back, probably worse than ever, and they're completely unable to stop it from sinking or all the buildings (that weren't made to be underwater 24/7 for decades at a time) from crumbling
Do you realize that it takes years to do that?
if there's no water in the canals, then that should give engineers a chance to get in there and reinforce the foundations of many of the buildings
It wont even last long enough to do that. The water will be back to normal in 2-3 weeks. This is more sensationalism
Crazy that water was clear enough for dolphins three years ago
That actually turned out to be fake, the pictures of dolphins was taken in Florida
So it sinking or not ?
Just to clear up everyone’s confusion, Climate change, which is caused by a warmer climate means more extreams in weather, so a drought followed by a flood. These extreams will become more frequent in the future
It's a religion. not a science.
Robert Bruce absolutely 💯
@@delyea dude it’s not a coincidence, sure , Europe and other parts of the world have also experienced record floods / temperatures/ droughts , you name it , but it doesn’t happen often , usually every few decades or so .
@@antoniocarlosoliveira9146 …since the beginning of time.
It reminds me of a story that happens before the 2004 tsunami hits. The locals were gathering at the beach cause the sea suddenly became much shallower, that the usual shallow area was dried. Making it easy for common folks to catch a fish or two. And then the tsunami hits...
Wait I thought water levels were to high just not to long ago? People were walking around in ankle deep water
Can you make more videos about turkey and Syria earthquake
I’m confused. Not to long ago it was the opposite?
Imagine the smell....😬🤢
Is this good news? They worried about sea level rising can drowned the old city of venice right? (Yes the iconic venice is small part of venice city, they actually like normal city in state but have the old city region we know)
I was in Venice this August. The water was almost up to sidewalk level.
In Venice the water goes up and down, but this is out of ordinary
