What's encouraging about this is that Jonas was able to make changes without any drop in the quality of the 11 on the pitch.Once we get Leah and Laura back in the new year, that will plug the 2 areas were we're a little short on depth. The only downside was the failure to convert the penalty - you can't score every one, but we've now missed (I think) 3 of the last 4 penalties we've been awarded. It's not good enough.
this is only slightly worrying. Little hasn't played since march I think so hopefully this was just a one off for her. McCabe I hope never takes a penalty for us again, especially if Catley is on the pitch

I say what I see, even if it is controversial but an Arsenal team with only 1 black players doesn’t represent the biggest team in London with the most black supporters in Europe. Something has massively gone wrong in England when it comes to inclusion in women’s football. It looks horrible compared to the diversity of men’s game and when 3 of the best players in the last World Cup were 3 black girls. The first WSL London team that goes outreaches, scout and develops girls in the black community, that is the norm in the men’s game will dominate the WSL.
But I think motive when it comes to picking players is money so they will always pick the best players to progress to make money. If you look at Chelsea they are a very diverse team and full of the top talent in the world. I agree arsenal are a very blond team so to speak but I don’t think the decisions are based on race maybe more to to with management and where they look for talent. This may of course be in more predominately white areas. The motive is always money, if the best player is a person of colour they will not hesitate to invest but it won’t change the fact that they are not going to build a team around how diverse it is. But yes a lot of work to be done at lower levels to make the system to be more diverse.
In the end it is always down to performance in football because money is all that matters. So perhaps more of a societal and systematic issue than a football issue. We are in Northern Europe after all which is a predominantly white region of the world. Money moves and results will never be made with diversity at the forefront, Unfortunately. I would love to hear your view on this response.
I really agree with this, Obviously these comments about diversity are necessary but ultimately that’s not what it’s about when it comes to elite sport. There are less coloured people in this part of the world so there will be fewer in the league but yes def a convo to bed had so we can have deeper look into how it can potentially change over time because it will need to and it should.
People are quick to forget that the money put into the development of the game, let alone into the black community is a fraction of that of the men’s so you can’t compare the two. Were there many black men playing in the English game 50 years ago? No there were not. It will take time
@@seaofserendipity Please don’t use the excuse they are picking the best players. They are clearly not scouting and developing black girls in the local area and using the money they get from TV and sponsorship to import foreign and pay them high salaries. If it was really about being the best, they would copy Lyon the most successful team in Women’s for a decade and half with the most champions league wins because they scout and develop their local black population and the only major women’s team with majority women of colour. Arsenal’s strategy of importing mediocre Scandinavians isn’t even winning trophies in England because Chelsea a team with more diversity and more Londoners is winning every in England.
