This makes me really sad to see. Dave was a really nice person and I loved chatting with him about mundane things. I didn't know who he was professionally until after he passed. He even said he was going up to Canada for work. I said, "oh! okay, well don't work too hard!" He said it was a music tour. I just kind of shrugged and said, "then I'll amend it, don't have too much fun!" but I still didn't know anything except he lived down the street and he always cut his mom's grass, liked Jager...
Wait.... so you were buddies with him without even knowing he was the frontman of a pretty well known band? That's crazy, but also goes to show how humble the dude must have been.
Dave Brockie is speaking the truth here about the music business. If you want to make music and enjoy doing it just do it all yourself because the price you pay is a lot less than if you sign with a label. If you just keep your head and get rid of the delusion of living in a mansion and having an army of groupies at your beck and call you'll be much more satisfied.

Played warped tour on the local stage years ago. We found out very quickly it’s a bunch of shit. Some of the so called punk bands. Not punk at all and warped tour is nothing but a corporate money grab.
